I’ve been coming to the Hock Y since I was a kid. Membership is more expensive than the $ 10/mo gyms, but it has so much more to offer than they do. Now that I have a family of my own, we’re all members, and use almost everything the Y has to offer… pool, camps, classes, fitness equipment, and on and on. For the most part, I would highly recommend the Y as the #1 choice for families in the N Attleboro area. I gave the YMCA4 stars, and would have gladly given 5 stars except for one major drawback… one of the male staff is a complete sleazeball… he works upstairs and I think he’s a trainer because he teaches boot camp… but he also appears to do the laundry some days… Either way, I’ll spare the public all the ugly details of our experience with this socially irresponsible idiot, and just leave it as a point a caution for anyone reading this. Hopefully they get rid of him before he lands the Y in a lawsuit.

Left the Y about a decade ago because I got tired of pre– teens and younger kids running around in areas that they weren’t supposed to be in, around the weight, the running machines etc without adult supervision, and no one working there seemed to care. I got a pass in the mail last May and decided to see if things had changed, nope I hasn’t. I don’t know how some of these people working there get their jobs, or better yet keep them, but I took my self and my money somewhere else, if I want to to sign up for a preschool I would have signed up for different at the Franklin branch.

I’m not what you would call a YMCA renaissance man. I strictly lift weights there, and always do so within two hours of closing. I am unqualified to comment on the yoga facilities, the Fun Zone, or even 90% of the men’s locker room. But lifting there I enjoy. The weights go «thud,» the benches, plates, and so forth are clean, the staff is friendly, and the other weight-pile people are courteous and just do their thing. The North Attleboro Y gym doesn’t seem to have as many«characters» as, say, the Attleboro Y does(which I went to for years when I lived in Attleboro). On the plus side, that means there are fewer guys who grunt«HRRUUHH!» after every rep of every set — loudly enough to startle even the swimmers downstairs. But there also seem to fewer true-blue gym rats — who often make for good spotters and«lifting buddies» in general. It’s a trade-off. My only gripe: There are too many cardio machines for my taste. They take up too much of the gym, relative to the free weights. I declare a weight-room Reconquista. You want cardio? After you’re done lifting(see what I did there?), jog across the street to WWI Memorial Park and run the hills for 15 – 20 minutes. Take advantage of the Y’s location.

I love this YMCA. Lots of easy parking, really friendly approachable staff, tons of newish machines, clean, calm, never too busy… if they had a second rowing machine I’d give five stars :) There’s ALWAYS someone on ‘my’ rowing machine ;)

One of the nicest Y’s I’ve seen! The staff are all friendly and helpful. The facility really clean. I went in to use the treadmill. The treadmills and ellipticals all seemed new. On this 90 degree day, I appreciated the individual fans on each treadmill. I’ve got 3 days left in town and will go back. It sure beats running outside in the heat! If I lived in the area, I’d make this my regular gym. This facility has a lot to offer it’s members.

I have been going to the North Y for 20+ years. great place where good old fashion values mean something. Good pick-up basketball in the mornings and at noon time. New renovated weight/workout area is amazing… every machine you would ever need is there. I love the Y!

Just joined last night… free week’s membership first as a trial, then plan on joining full time. its $ 62/month for my wife and me. Not too bad, comparable to any other place. Trying to get them to remove the $ 80 registration fee. The gym itself is somewhat small, it was packed last night at 7:30 to 9:30 when I was there. But they do have an indoor pool, large basketball courts, gymnastics area… havent got the hang of everything yet, or the classes, but the gym gave me a good workout!
