Joe Fish Seafood Restaurant and Bar

We made a reservation on Unilocal and the table was ready for us when we arrived. We have patronized Joe Fish for years. This time around, I ordered the Redefined Fish & Chips and was not disappointed. They never have.

I really enjoyed this place, but be aware it closes at 9pm on a Sunday which sounds very early to my New York city self. Service was friendly and they had a nice list of specials. I like that they offer glasses of wine in several sizes, starting at 6 ounces and going up-​I went with the 9 oz of a white wine form Sicily that cost $ 11. I shared the lobster guacamole ($ 15) that was delicious and besides bits of lobster had two nice big chunks. They also offer a lot of their lobster entrees in three sizes-​small, medium and large. I had the small lobster roll, it was great. They also had no problem (or additional cost) for me substituting a green salad for the coleslaw or french fries option. I saved room for dessert and did not regret getting the pineapple coconut bread pudding. It was decadently delicious and a huge order-​I was stuffed after barely half of it. I would definitely come back if I were in town.

We made a reservation here on Unilocal which worked great and we were able to walk right in. The Crab Cake was fantastic. I had the Salmon on special and it was ok; nothing great. The others in my party had haddock and the seafood trio and both really enjoyed it.

They have THE BEST mussels in the UNITED STATE!!!
Sometimes we just go there to have mussels and Oysters.
They also have dollar oysters once a week.

So sad. Went here for Tuesday $ 1 oysters. Such a disappointment. Maybe it’s the wrong season for oysters? Only 1 choice. Limp, small, sad. The best I can say is I didn’t get sick. Place was packed, thought that should be a good sign. Waiter doing his best, but cold. When asked, suggested alternatives on the menu that should have been good. Fried clams sandy, cod with macadamia nuts uninspired, frozen, to sweet. Never going back. I feel like I threw away $ 100.

What a great place! Food was fantastic. Not your average seafood place. They have all the traditional seafood and then American fusion seafood. Had the Pad Tia shrimp. Best I have had yet.

Joe fish simple place and very laid back. The staff is real nice and the food is great. I been coming here for years and never had a bad experience. Oysters always good, salmon, soup, calamari all good too. Prices are average and so are the drinks.

I have been going here for a few years; it is a favorite of my parents as well. Atmosphere is very nice, not too fancy but offers more ambience than a chain. Food is outstanding-​very fresh & flavorful. I have had broiled scallops, a seafood stew, & many other dishes. For those who don’t like seafood, there are other choices, notably the delicious steak tips! They have a good drink menu & a decent selection of beers. Prices are pretty good, lunch prices offer a great deal. Service can be a little slow, but food is worth it. A must try for seafood lovers & anyone else who likes good food!

We WERE regular customers until last nights experience. The quality of food coming from the kitchen has declined dramatically. Ordered the chowder, which was just ok, and then things just got worse. The steamers were terrible, almost as though they were precooked then rewarmed a few times. Very rubbery and not clean at all. For mains we shared the fish tacos. Fish was not fully cooked and the crust was soggy, the lettuce was old and wilted and the pico was all over the place. We used to enjoy coming here a few times per month, but we won’t be coming back for a second helping of this change in good quality. Very disappointed!

We have eaten here several dozen times. The food is always well prepared, rolls are hot and delicious, but to us, the wait staff makes the experience. Phil is your consummate bar tender. Well versed and funny. Sit at the bar and its a great experience. But this is a shout out for Angela. She is what a server is all about. Friendly, happy and attentive. She is the kind of person you want for a daughter or friend and to be around her is a joy. As a server we have been fortunate to have her and will ask again for her.

Gained a lot of respect for this place– a couple of months back the waitress accidentally spilled juice on my expensive purse– I was not upset accidents happen but a couple of minutes later she came back and told me if I brought in the receipt from my cleaner they will pay for it! I thought it was a really nice gesture and I still remember it. The food is outstanding the drinks are always good and the place is very clean for a seafood place!

We used to be regulars at the bar for dinner and a couple drinks but the last few times we have been disappointed. Last night was probably the last time we will come here. The bar service was awful, we sat at the corner chairs for about 10 min before the barmaid noticed us and said «oh where did you guys come from». Went downhill from there… both our beer and wine were a little more than room temperature not even close to the proper chill. We asked for ice and she just brought it over not even addressing the issue. We asked for bread and she never brought it so we asked the other bartender who brought it out immediately. Our app, oysters baton rouge were soggy and mushy inside. Our dinner, katzu tuna was good, although definitely raw not rare as requested. This was just a bad experience considering the high prices.

The highest priced fisherman’s platter I have ever seen, $ 32?! I could the same plus an order of fried lobster at the Clam box for the same price. Oysters were good, service average.

Stopped while traveling from Maine to CT. Great food! Fantastic waitress! Made our trip so much nicer. Excellent value. Had lobster bisque, salmon, scallops and octopus. Would stop again if in the area.

Love this place… baked trio is AMAZING! Anytime I’m in the mood for seafood it’s my go to place.

After flying overnight to ME, I wanted to stuff my face with lobsta rolls. The only place where I found a yummy lobsta roll was Boston Chowda in the area the last time I visited. Well, it was a Sunday and Boston Chowda was closed. What was a girl to do?
North Andover is my husband’s hometown so we decided to look for places where we could eat a lobsta roll. I called Joe’s and they said they were open… YES!!!
I don’t remember our waitresses name, but she was superb! Our chowda was delicious, and I ordered a medium lobsta roll (10oz. of lobsta!). I had no idea it was this huge! They have 3 different sizes of lobsta rolls!!! Medium was more than enough… I had to give some of the meat to my husband to eat for me. I can’t imagine what the large gave!
Our waitress learned that we were newlyweds that had just flown in from CA to have another reception in ME for family who couldn’t come out, and the bride wanted some lobsta rolls. We weren’t expecting anything, and were totally stuffed but she gave us a thing of crème brûlée. How awesome is that??? Of course, we stuffed our face even more eating half of the crème brûlée haha. Very impressed with Joe’s! We will definitely be coming back next time… Boston Chowda, you’ve been replaced!

Our Service — I would give 5+ stars Michelle, she has the superb quality, the expertise in serving and handling issues that I rarely see in the waitress /​waiter.
The order took over 30′ and we were complaining. They almost forgot to bring 1 order. I’d give 2 stars
Food quality — we ordered 7 orders. All above average. Mine was the Tuna and I asked to cook between rare and med rare. It was too cooked. 3.5 stars
Portion — above average — 4 stars

I would never think to get seafood in North Andover, being from Essex, but I actually had a really good meal here. The service was good, the restaurant was clean, and everyone I was with enjoyed their meal. I got the grilled haddock and it was excellent! Grilled haddock is uncommon to find on menus, and I absolutely loved it. My cousin got the lobster roll and that looked great as well. For not being right on the coast, Joe Fish still provides fresh, tasty fish. There are also many options for the non-​fish crowd.

First of all, my rating is actually a 3.5. I’d give Joe Fish a 4 for food, but a 3 for service. I went here with my husband and daughter for my birthday (plus I had a gift card!). I had made a reservation for 6:30 on a Saturday night. We were seated as soon as we arrived. The restaurant was crowded and a bit noisy. You did have to speak some what loudly so the person across the table from you could hear.
Our waitress came to the table quickly, but clear disappointment showed on her face when no one ordered alcohol. She then quickly ran through the specials and left the table without asking if we had any questions. Not a big deal, but I did have a question. So, when she came back I asked my question. She answered and asked if I was ready to order. I said I needed a moment, but the others may be ready. She walked away from the table. It was about 8 to 10 minutes before she came back to take our order.
Once we got our food, the experience got better. My fish & chips was fresh and tasty. The fish tacos came with a nice helping of rice and beans. The lobster pie was steaming hot. My husband would have licked the plate if that were cool.
So, overall, the experience gets a 3.5 rating. I will try it again — sometimes the staff makes a big difference!

Stopped here during the week for a quick lunch with a co-​worker. Ended up having a house salad and medium lobster roll. House salad had good dressing but the lettuce wasn’t fresh. Lobster roll was huge found a small piece of a shell but wasn’t a big deal, fries were great but needed salt.

Best seafood restaurant in North Andover. I had visit this restaurants in several occasions and the food has been consistent. It can get crowded in the summer but the busyness does not take away from the service or the quality of the food. If you decide to stop by, I recommend the lobster avocado appetizer.

Since I’m still in the neighborhood, I came back to Joe’s for the $ 1 oyster Tuesday. Contrary to the pretty empty Wednesday last week, the bar area today was packed. I waited a little to find a seat and had to flag down a bartender (there were only two) to take my order. The oysters were from Rhode Island and a bit salty. I followed it up with a delicious crab cake.

We went to Joe Fish on a whim while deciding what to eat with our friends. They had been here before and said it was really good. They were completely right.
Seafood is one of those things that you can never be quite sure of simply because of quality and freshness. Joe Fish got it right on the money. With each dish that was brought out from the appetizer to the main dish everything was superb.
First I have to talk about the fresh bread brought to the table. It was so good, slightly crispy on the outside with a great buttery cheesy taste and soft on the inside. Then our friends ordered the calamari appetizer and they really liked that.
Main dish took a while to get to our table but the wait was worth it, I had the Catfish special and it was one of the most flavorful dishes I have had so far. It came on a bed of baby spinach and smashed potatoes. Drizzled with an Aioli that was to die for.
Roosevelt got the pasta with clams in white sauce and that was superb (I of course tried a bit). It was so fresh and super flavorful.
The waitress though I don’t remember her name was very nice and somewhat attentive and made sure we always had water and fresh bread.
We will definitely go back.

Place was nice inside nothing to fancy but very nice.
Staff was very friendly and fast. Went their on a business dinner with a price limit allowed. Allot of the items did not have price on them. Most things on the menu were normal price so did not think Market priced items would be so expensive. The person I took out ordred the jumbo lobster roll which he said was great but when bill came it was 45 that kind of blew up my budget. If price is not an issue then a great place

We went to Joe Fish the night after I moved to Lawrence based on the recommendation from the apartment complex I moved into. It was a Saturday night and the place looked slammed, but they were able to seat us immediately.
Service was friendly if a little stilted. Our appetizer (calamari) arrived quickly and the presentation was great. We chose the non-​spicy version and it tasted great.
I had ordered hot tea and made the mistake of putting cream and lemon into it. I planned on drinking it since it was my mistake, but the waitress who dropped off our food insisted on taking the cup away and replacing the tea.
My mom and I split the beet salad first. Tasty, but the beets were smaller than expected and not as plentiful as expected when the name is on the salad.
Second, we split the native sea scallops. The serving was a perfect size and the flavors were great.

I know it’s winter and I just wanted steamers. They were dry and they were not warm. Very disappointed and should be ashamed of serving such bad quality so close to the Atlantic. In my local supermarket in Houston Texas I can buy a dozen way better than these were. $ 16 way over a buck a piece.sad.

Good seafood, but can be under staffed at times.
Took 1hr+ last time we were there for food to arrive.
