Los Potrillos is a small taqueria inside a Mexican grocery. It is tucked away on Elm St so it can be easy to miss. When you walk in through the nondescript door, turn left for the taqueria. Grab a seat — the waitress is friendly and speaks English well. The menu is limited but what they serve is very good: — carne de plancha(get some tortillas on the side) — milanesa de res — menudo(on weekends) — tacos, sopes, tortas — order some agua fresca to drink — Horchata and Jamaica are both good A lot of Mexicans eat there so that’s a good sign.

Good, basic taqueria serving tacos, tortas, quesedillas and tamales connected to a small mexican grocery store. Retaurant seats 15 – 20 people; they also do take-out. This is a down-and-dirty place but it is good, authentic mexican. I had three tacos with cilantro and onions(lime on the side) — bistek, al pastor and chorizo con queso — and a chicken tamale. They brought squeeze bottles of green and red salsa, both homemade and spicy. The al pastor had a wonderful flavor on its own and was not dry(I find that sometimes pork tacos and be dry). The chorizo was very spicy and lovely. The bistek was good, great once I added the red salsa. The surprise was the chicken tamale. The chicken mixture inside the masa was very flavorful and with a bit of either of the salsa’s this was great. All this and a bottle of soda, $ 8.50 + tip. The wait staff was very friendly and helpful. It got loud when some guys came in and started blasting the jukebox, but I don’t generally go to taqueria’s to have intense conversations — I go for the food. If you like to go for the food, and don’t mind the atmosphere being a little down and dirty, try Los Potrillos. Oh, and I picked up some chorizo and queso fresco in the grocery store for chorizo burgers(half chorizo, half hamburger) for later this weekend.
