Visiting Norman today and had cravings for a good burger. I haven’t been to this place in at least a decade, but suggested it as it was always good in the past. We both got bacon cheeseburgers, I got cheese fries and he had homemade onion rings. They have a toppings bar where you dress your own burgers which is nice. The burgers came out and were obviously freshly made and not preformed patties. The edges had a nice crisp but they were still juicy. The fries were hand it but lacked seasoning; I ordered the small but couldn’t even get a quarter of the way through… the serving size was HUGE. The onion rings were lights battered and perfectly cooked. The ice for the drinks was shaved and awesome. I’d eat here again next time I’m in Norman.

Time to update the review, as the old owners of the Red Horse Grill have returned in the last couple of months. They are back making the thin onion burgers with nice crispy edges I enjoyed for many years. They cook them through, but the burgers remain juicy. In my trips since the old management has returned, I’ve had a regular bacon cheeseburger and a patty melt(add bacon). The patty melt may be my favorite burger in Norman. The rye bread is flavorful and crunchy after some time on the flat top. The onions are perfectly cooked. They are sufficiently caramelized, but they don’t lose all of their integrity. The melted cheese and juicy burger(again, with a thinner style patty, which I typically find superior for onion burgers) finish a fantastic burger. The bacon was slightly crisp on the edges but not overcooked. You still dress your own burger at Red Horse, which is fine with me, although the last time I was there the mayo was running low and they were busy. So, as long as the toppings bar is fully stocked and fresh(the veggies are always fresh) I am good. The sides are strong as well, and you get a lot of bang for your buck. The last time I ate here, we ordered a large fry for 3 adults and 1 child(a nearly 5 year old boy) to share. We easily took over half the order home. The fries are long and appear to be hand cut. They are classic fries but could use some seasoning. So, I wouldn’t be shy with the salt and pepper when they get to your table. The return of the owners of Red Horse has brought back one of my favorite things ever: jalapeño tots. These are clearly purchased from a vendor rather than handmade, but I have never seen them anywhere else. They are a large tater tot that has cheese, jalapenos, and potato inside. They serve them with ranch, but I prefer ketchup or plain. These things are legit, better than the standard jalapeño poppers you get at most places. Glad to see they’re back. Red Horse prepares your food when you order, so be expected to wait a bit at peak hours. But, it’s absolutely worth it. Glad to see the old management back, and I will be returning frequently.

This has been my go to burger joint for over a decade. Fast courteous service. Always clean and friendly. They prepare your food in open view. So you know what you are getting, and you know it is done right.

Great secret – best onion fried burger in town. Good service. Fairly recent new ownership = some new menu offerings.

It looked like it was gonna be really good, but the portions were smaller than I expected. However the food quality was pretty good. I had some chicken strips that were nice and juicy and the fries with southwestern seasoning were good.

This restaurant to me is the epitome of «comfort.» It has been a Norman, OK staple for as long as I can remember! We ate there in college, we ate there as a young married couple and now it a favorite of our kids. The burgers are top-notch and my wife is a huge fan of the«fixings bar.» The fries and onion rings are great and there is always plenty of food. Oh, and in the winter, be sure to try the beef stew! Apart from the great food is the great people that work there. You will always see a friendly face and after going there just a few times they remember you. After that it always feels like you are going to eat at a friend’s house. Lot’s of OU and Green Bay stuff to check out while you are there. In the Norman area, it is a definite must eat.

Best burger and onion rings in Norman. I have been coming here on and off since this place opened in the 90s and it has always been consistently good. The downside, however, is that I have been staring at the same décor and drinking soda out of the same fountain since the 90s too. It’s time for a scene change!

A really good burger. Fries are big, hot, and scream classic burger joint or truck stop surrounded by parked big rigs. But the good food comes with a price, literally. Too expensive for a «joint,» while not the kind of ambiance to be considered«upscale.»

I’m a dive lover, but I was pretty disappointed by this one. The other reviews on here had me excited to finally check it out, but I quickly found that my expectations were nowhere near reality. Red Horse is a dump, with dated facilities and an old, white trash atmosphere. Okay, that may be a bit on the harsh side, as it’s not as bad as, say, a Waffle House, but the place could certainly use a touch up to say the least. I also found it to be a bit dirty, and I was embarrassed to have suggested to my friends that we give it a try. The food was lame. The burger was bland, and the toppings bar(cool concept btw, so props to them for that, just poorly executed) was full of extremely low quality items. I also got some sort of poppers that, despite having a special name, tasted like frozen jalapeño poppers that you’d buy at Wal-Mart. I would have liked to have sampled a milkshake, but after spending about $ 9 on my two items, I decided otherwise. I was also disappointed that they did not have PACMAN(at least anymore), as one reviewer had mentioned to have seen there. These kinds of places are usually hit and miss, and for me, Red Horse is a dud.

This really isn’t the type of place I usually frequent but my wife couldn’t get enough hamburgers during her pregnancy(this is a woman who normally could survive happily on salads alone) and so we ended up eating there at least a couple of times a week and a few times, more than once in a day. They have really simple and good hamburgers with a fixins bar, great frozen custard and, hands down, the best coca-cola in norman(styrofoam cups and ice that is almost like that in a sno-cone). try it.
