I left one shoe repair store because the cobbler would not listen to my specific request. Arrived at Johnson’s shoe repair where he was also not listening to what I requested to have done. I was trying to relay specific directions from the manufacture of my expensive belt for the work that needed done. Giving up on personal service, I opted to have him complete the work. Price is reasonable and the work was OK. I will try to finish sealing the edges of the cuts when I get home.

I took a pair of boots in two weeks ago to add a rubber half sole(to protect the leather soles) and after wearing the boots 5 times one half sole has already started peeling off. Never coming back here.

I had some heels recapped here about a year or so ago, and he did a totally decent job. Prices seemed fair, and turnaround time was reasonable. I’d definitely go here again!

For those of you who didn’t know, shoe repair is back in style. It’s tough economic times after all and it’s trendy to be economical. So, why buy a new pair of shoes when you could just repair your old ones? Because you’ve worn through your old ones you say? Well before you toss those aside, you might want to cruise by Johnson’s and see if he can’t breathe some life back into them. Here’s a story: I bought a pair of Birkenstocks back in 1998. Where I come from, they were super stylish that year even when worn with wool socks. I wasn’t the guy who kept a hacky sack on hand and wore them year round but they got some consistent wear during the summer months. As you might guess, my sandals wore down over time and about four years ago one of the rubber soles detached. This was a career-ending injury for this particular pair, but being the hoarder that I am, I set them on a Yaffa block tower down in my basement. The story doesn’t end there though. No, this is a comeback story. A few weeks ago, while planning for a trip, I began to realize that what I would really like to bring with me is a nice pair of sandals. «Kind of like those Birkenstocks I used to have» I thought.(Picture light bulb illuminating above head) I ran downstairs and found my sandals on the Yaffa block tower. I called up Johnson’s and asked if he repaired Birkenstocks. «Uh, yeah» he said. When I took them over to him, I knew he wasn’t kidding because there’s a huge sticker on his front door that reads«Authorized Birkenstock Repairer» — I instantly forgave him for his annoyed tone on the phone. Anyway, he gave them a physical, diagnosed some issues and asked me to give him a few days. A few days passed, I returned to pick them up and they were as good as new. Not literally, I mean there are still some scuffs on the straps and the foot bed is the same(= still broken in) but the cork was all rebuilt and he put new soles on. Now I’m back in business and feeling like a high schooler again. Thanks Johnson!
