Super 8 Norfolk/Chesapeake Bay

DO NOT GET A ROOM HERE!!!
Let me start off by saying I would never recommend this place to anyone. This place should be shut down and demolished.
The door handle is moldy and rusted and had to really push hard to get in the room. The smell when you walk in, is like, dusty moldy. The floor looked like it hasn’t been vacuumed in months. There’s cobwebs under the table, on the corners of the room, dust is on the tables and shelves, even the stand that the microwave was on was broken! I was too scared to even look under the bed or the closet. I thought a bat was gonna fly out of the closet.
My sister rented out this room with her kids and husband for the weekend and I just wanted them out. If I had money, I would have gotten them another hotel. This place is disgusting! Even the beds… I didn’t want to sit or lay on them! Why this place is still standing… I’ll never know… But this place needs to go! Awful! Awful place!

Comfy beds, the hotel is right on the beach, so that’s nice. Tv works, channels are clear.

The Good — Great rates, great location, older but, clean rooms, staff very accommodating.
The Bad — Poor maintenance program, rooms should be checked to ensure there are no issues before occupancy.
No real surprises here, you get what you pay for. Overall a good stay. Recommend

We arrived on Saturday evening, it was raining. The back parking lot was flooded. We got a room with a king size bed and a coffee pot, so I decided to make some coffee, but it didn’t work. I reported it to the office, and they said they would notify maintenance, and replace the next day. The lady was nice enough to make a pot for us in the lobby. The next day, we went out and didn’t get back until late in the evening. Upon returning to our room, we noticed the bed wasn’t made and the dirty towels were removed, but not replaced, the coffee pot was also untouched. Back to the lobby I went. This was a different lady, I told her the situation, she said they had a lot of checkouts and had a lot of towels to wash, she would notify housekeeping and send some up. She also wrote down about the coffee pot for the manager. I saw the housekeeping staff, still working at 830PM on Sunday night, I got the towels I needed, and since it was late, I emptied the trash and told her the room was good enough until tomorrow. I walked outside to look at the bay (in my bare feet) I noticed the carpet was wet. I informed the office, she said it was from the air conditioner and all the rooms were like that. Move on to the third day, the room was cleaned, and we had clean towels. But the coffee pot was still not replaced, so I went back to the office. The lady said the manager should have seen her note. I asked her to give me a pot from a room not being used, she couldn’t do that without manager’s approval and she couldn’t call, he was out of town in a meeting. My husband went down to talk to her and convinced her to give us a coffee pot from an empty room. We had reservations for a fishing trip on Wednesday, but it got postponed until Friday, we were planning on leaving on Thursday. So we decided to look for another place for one additional night. Too bad Surf Motel wasn’t listed on trip advisor, we would have booked that place first! Anyway, back to Super 8, the view from the room isn’t bad if you don’t mind looking over the parking lot and the rocks to break the waves. They have a laundry room with two washers and dryers (but bring your own quarters they may not have enough to give change), a vending machine, and free ice. They offer a continental breakfast, but only about three tables, and there is a sign asking you to eat in the lobby. It isn’t the best place to take your family, there are some people that look like the type not to be associated with.

If I could give this place a negative 10 rating I would. I booked through Expedia and would never do that again. This place should be condemned! It is disgusting, flies and other flying critters in the room. Glass on wall was dirty with unidentifiable stuff. Tub was dirty, mold on shower curtain, musty smell, just plain disgusting! Lots of sketchy people hanging out. Not the kind of place to stay and enjoy. Do yourself a favor and do not come here. You will regret it! To top this off, the front desk woman was unfriendly and had no people skills. The cleaning ladies were nice though.

I give this hotel 5 stars mainly for being just what I expected. A decent room at a fair price and located in a nice area. Check in was easy and fast. Had my room key in less than 5 min. Guy at the counter was pleasant. Checked out my room and was pleased with what I saw. From other reviews I read I thought I would see a disaster but all I see is a nice comfy king size bed with oh so soft fluffy pillows. Floor, bathroom, fridge, microwave are all clean. Nothing ratty or broken. My room has a regular TV. Not the flat screens everyone is so used to now these days. I don’t care what kind of TV it is, every channel is clear and reception just fine. The beach is just a few steps away. It’s right behind the hotel, so that’s a big plus. I love the view as well. You can see the lights of the Hampton Roads Bridge Tunnel. I will definitely return to this hotel again someday. Quiet and pleasant. I picked the right time to stay.
