Smartmouth Brewing Company

I do enjoy smart mouth brewery! Beers are always on the spot not much deviation from batch to Batch at all. Parking is everywhere in less it is a weekend block party then it will be hard to find but day to day no problems. The only reason why it isn’t getting 5 stars is because the inside is so small, this is a popular place and fills up fast.

Love this brewery. One of the greatest places to get a brew in Norfolk. The taproom is a little smaller than some of the other places around, but the service is good, friendly and prompt. The people who work there are been enthusiasts, not beer snobs, which I appreciate greatly.
They have good events every so often. Fun, friendly atmosphere. All you parents: people often bring kids during the day, so no pressure with the strollers.

Came here for the first time on a Friday evening. This is a great place to meet friendly folks and sample some interesting draft. The people working the taps were as nice as could be and very willing to pour samples for tasting. The patrons were all having a good time and the place had a real «aren’t life and beer great» vibe. The room was full and seating limited, so we wound up standing at a table which was not a problem.
The beer selection offered something for everyone. The chalk board behind the bar had lots of information on each beer which spanned the range of ABV and IBU. My favorite was the Rule G IPA. There was a Taiwanese food truck out front but we didn’t try the fare.
I will definitely come back here.

Really great beer. This was my first time trying Smartmouth since I am not from the area so I got a flight. The flight allowed me to taste nine of their beers on tap and they even handed me a description of each beer on a small card which was really helpful. The staff was friendly and the beer was well-​balanced. My favorite was the milk catcher milk stout but Notch nine double IPA was also divine. It looked like each night they are open they have a food truck or a nearby restaurant to order food. The night we were there they had a pizza place but by the time I was ready to order I found out the pizza shop was closing early for the holiday.
The one beer I was really hoping to drink was a sour and that was not on tap at the time I went. They did have a couple of saison so but I was not a fan of the alter ego saison.
I will definitely be back when I a, in the area and hopefully will take one of the tours they do on Saturday at 2 or 6 pm.

Smartmouth has always been my favorite brewery in Norfolk since its inception. Simply put, everything on tap always tastes great.
My favorites:
Alter Ego: A perfect saison. Peppery yet balanced.
Notch 9: My all time favorite IPA. Strong and hoppy.
All their seasonals: They really spend their time perfecting each release.
As for the tasting room, it’s awesome unless it’s packed. But even then, there’s always somewhere to sit, and you always have a view of the kettles.
Keep it up Smartmouth, the beer’s always great.

Fairly sized Brewery compared to other local brewery’s I’ve been to in the 757. Came here with a friend and found parking on the corridor. There’s a small area for outdoor seating before you walk in. When you go inside there’s about 2 long community tables where everyone sits and you order drinks up front. I’ve tried their classics which is their Alter Ego, Murphy’s Law Amber Ale (one of my faves), Rule G IPA. I wasn’t a fan of their Cowcatcher milk stout. I was thinking it would be on the creamy size but it’s brown in color with a toasty malt finish. The name threw me off. I’m an IPA person, and their Notch 9 Double IPA is on point. The hoppier the better.
We had a fun relaxing time here. Live country/​bluegrass music. Their seasonal brews are worth a try. I forgot what I had when I went their last time but I remember it being fruity. Check Smartmouth out!
