I had two people recommend this place to me, and it was definitely good! I love locally owned places since they can be more original than a franchise. It’s a bit hard to find, especially if you don’t know Ocean View(there’s a West OV too, while SS is East OV) and the parking lot is tiny. I’m glad I got there before it picked up with a busy brunch crowd. The wait staff was very attentive and both seemed to frequently help each other’s table with a plate of food or a coffee refill. I ordered an omlette with broccoli and chicken, it tasted amazing. The menu states the omlettes come with three eggs, but it was hard to tell if they were even real eggs since it was cooked different than I’ve had it before. The egg(we’ll say substance) was cooked in a circular pan then folded in half with the goodies in the middle. The eggs were egg beaters, or mixed very well. The result was FLOOFY omlette, not burriot style. I really liked it since it seemed much less greasy. My friend had a platter and wasn’t a big fan of his sausages, though the rest was good. I found the little coffee cups too small, as I’m a chugger and needed frequent refills. Clean inside with lots of flair on the walls and things to discover. There’s a nice fish tank and a little fridge of goodies, like upsidedown salads in a jar.

My wife and I recently moved to Norfolk and as such, we’ve been scouting out new places to dine. We checked Unilocal for a good breakfast place in town and found that Shipwreck Sally’s wasn’t far from our home and decided to give it a try. Just Wow! The food was amazing! I had the Crab Cakes Egg Benedict with Grits and my wife had Eggs, Home style Potatoes and Bacon. The dishes were cooked to perfection and to order. The restaurant staff was extremely courteous and polite! The ambiance was that of a hometown small breakfast joint right on the water. Thank you for the wonderful dining experience, my wife and I wish you the best of luck in the future!

Made with love is how I can describe the food here. Holy moly so good. This is a small place so I could see how there could be a wait at times. Phenomenal pancakes. We got them topped with strawberries. Almost a crime it was so good. We also got the benedicts. My husband go the crab cake and I got the special which had avocado bacon and chicken. They were spot on out of this world slap your momma good. The home fries were crispy potatoey squares of joy. Good coffee too.

What a cute little local eatery! Known for their eggs Benedict and boy was mine good! I got the veggie Benedict with a aside of roasted pears– Outstanding! The veggies used were fresh as were the pears. The eggs were cooked to perfection with liquid yolks but nicely cooked whites!(My pet peeve– undercooked egg whites!) One of my meal companions got biscuits and gravy and very much enjoyed it. Another got a Reuben and rated it outstanding. They accommodated our group of 10 even though it’s a small restaurant.

I come here as often as my schedule allows. In all the times I’ve come here, never once have I been disappointed. In fact, I’m been amazed and overjoyed with the service, selection and preparation of food at Shipwreck Sally’s. It’s my official hometown spot. The fact that I can walk to it from our apartment and get a superb meal is the kind of thing that makes neighborhoods special. So, I’m glad Shipwreck Sally’s is in Ocean View and I hope it’s here to stay. I highly recommend everything but the crabcake benefit is an absolute masterpiece. Please come and try it… just save my wife and I some seats.

Great spot for breakfast. I couldn’t finish all my breakfast. Large portions. Great price. One of my friends had the meat lover omelet with corn beef hash and loved it. I recommend the Crab Cake Benedict. It amazes me how the taste of crab, egg, and hollandaise sauce jive so well together. The hollandaise was not to lemony. It was just the rice amount of spice. My waiter recommended spice pears as my side. This was my first time having spiced pears and it was like a breath of fresh air. After seeing the rave about the banana bread. I decided to try that as well. It melts in your mouth. The slight cruch threw me off but that is what pulled me in to want more. All in all the restaurant is awesome. Very popular spot with a slight wait. Prices are good. It was about $ 28 dollars for a 2 person fare. Parking is very limited. Don’t try to park behind the behind the building. The(i assumed) owner of Great White Water Sports is rude. And over protective of his establishment parking that is not marked by the way. But you will soon forget all of that once you taste the food at Shipwreck Sally’s.

We read about this place on Unilocal and decided to give it a try. We love a good hole-in-the-wall breakfast place, and thought it would fit the bill. We arrived about 9 on a weekend, so it was crowded and there was a wait. We put our names on a list and stood around. There was a small bar area that also had seating. There were a couple of open stools, so I asked the older woman working if bar seating was available(lots of places make that first come first served). She was very rude to me and snapped that it was offered to those on the list first. Ok, lady, I’m new here, sorry to bother you. As we waited for an open spot, some regulars must have walked in. They were happily greeted and offered coffee while they waited! I found that to be extremely rude as there were probably 5 couples ahead of them in line, none of whom had been offered any beverage while waiting. Not a good impression. Once we were finally seated(20 minutes or so), at the bar no less, things were just okay. Everything took a little longer than normal. And they weren’t too keen on keeping the coffee coming. We also got to witness the server sneeze into her hand then grab the coffee pot. Awesome. The food was average. Companion and I both ordered typical eggs, bacon, biscuit, etc. Not bad, not great. The highlight for me was the coffee, as long as I had some.

This is a little hole in the wall but the food is so good. The crab cake eggs Benedict has so much crab in the crab cake and not a lot of filling. The prices are reasonable, the staff is always so sweet. This has become my go-to breakfast place.

We really like this place! It is so cute and you really feel welcomed and appreciated BUT, and this is a big but, DONTCOMESTARVING!!! The food is so good! But you wait forever and a day for it! At least you know it is freshly prepared but we sometimes stray from coming here because we would like our food somewhat quickly(within a half an hour). If you are coming to socialize and catch up I’m sure you woulnt mind waiting and like I said the food is realllllyyyy good! But you have to be patient! Good things come in time I suppose! :)

Southern hospitality at its finest! We waited 20 minutes to be seated, which I felt was pretty reasonable for a Saturday morning. We had the French toast, Country Benedict, and Irish Benedict… All equally delicious. The staff were fantastic!

We have been here twice since moving to the area and we absolutely love it! The food is delicious, fresh, and vegetarian friendly! It’s family owned and operated business, they have excellent customer service, and for the price you can’t beat it! We will definitely be back again! Their veggie eggs Benedict is out of this world, and the veggie burger was clearly homemade(it was juicy and had mushrooms). My husband loved his meals there as well, he had a burger one day and breakfast the following visit.

We’ve been wanting to try this place for quite awhile, especially since it is close to home, and we finally made it in today for a late breakfast. I know they are famed for their benedicts(which look amazing by the way), but I’m not a poached egg kinda gal. We both ordered the Big Breakfast(I think it’s called?). 2 eggs, 2 bacon, 2 sausage(patties or links), toast(if you want it — they ask because they don’t like to waste, which makes sense), grits or home fries and your choice of French toast, pancakes or ½ of a Belgian waffle. Hubby went with sunny side, patties, grits and French toast — I was the scrambled, links, grits and pancakes… both with toast thankyouverymuch. Don’t judge. We were hungry. All in all it was just OK. Pretty standard breakfast fare. The eggs were cooked well(his yolks were nice and runny like he loves them). The sausage was good(nothing amazing) and so were the grits — lots of butter, which is how we do them at home. Toast(white or wheat are your choices) was dry(Hubby didn’t care, that’s what he uses to soak up all those egg yolks — me, not so much) and the pancakes and French toast were nothing special. On the other hand the bacon was fantastic! I would love to know where they get it! Service was fine, though they seem more focused on turning the tables(which they do well — it’s a busy place) than refilling coffee(waited quite awhile before anyone came by to check). All in all not a great experience, but not a bad one either. They have a pretty varied menu, especially when it comes to breakfast. It’s worth a stop.

Came in for breakfast with my bestie after a race. Shipwreck Sally’s is small and on the divey side. Parking isn’t the greatest. It’s clean with friendly service and the food is great. I ordered an omelet with crab and my bestie ordered an omelet with chicken & cheese. We each got a side of home fries, as well. The hash browns were legit. Diced potatoes with pepper, onion, and bits of sausage. Omelets were well cooked not soggy or too dry.

Had another fine breakfast here this past Sunday with my mother and daughter. It kind of doesn’t matter what you get… could be the basics or something fancier. Everything is quality, cooked well and you get a lot of it. The staff are always super friendly(really genuine, fun and nice). Fantastic place all the way around — can’t get enough of them. If I lived closer, I’d be a regular for sure. ;-)

After two solid experiences for breakfast I’m ready to pull the trigger with a review. On both occasions the portion size was more than generous and service friendly. I went today to dispel it as a fluke and believe me I was correct. This place is the real deal. Located in Ocean View off the main drag is where you will find them. Signage is good, but like anything else if your not looking you could pass it. You may also ignore them due to the fact they are an unassuming little business. If I was not already aware of their reputation for super benedicts I may have passd on them too! Parking is around the building and seems about right for the size, but I assume if packed there could be some issues. The lot is not great, it’s uneven and has a couple different surfaces. However it was clean. There is a condo, or apartment lot behind them. I’m only guessing this is strictly resident parking. I entered the cinder block building to a nice beachy feel restaurant. A waiting area is to your left as well as restrooms. There is a small counter that seats five. Booths are placed around the perimeter with table and chairs in the center. Beach décor lines the walls and a warm wood lament floor runs throughout the dining room. There is an ice-cream cooler that doubles as storage in three quarters and ice-cream in the rest. My first visit was a little rough with service from a young girl, but was always friendly. My only issues was everything being very slow to get refills on coffee and water, then finally a check. My breakfast meal was the crab benedict. It came out within 15 minutes, the place was not busy on a weekday. It looked good and tasted great. Lots of whole lump crab and the hollandaise sauce was legit. Everything was hot and seem fresh. The bagel was crisp at the bottom. My side of fried up potatoes were good. My second visit service was my stronger and service was elevated much more. A young man waited on me. I ordered the Irish which is a hash based benedict and got the fried potatoes again. Slight delay on coffee as the server forgot it since he was expediting in the kitchen. There were a few guest, but still not busy at all for a weekday. The owners Mother Joanie was making the rounds saying hello and we talked a bit. She is a very sweet Woman and an awesome addition to the diner as a kind of host. The food was out again in around 15 minutes. It looked incredible and the tasted matched. The portion size was crazy huge. The only criticism I have is the bagel was not as crispy as before and somewhat chewy. Other than that it was a home run. My server did not check on my, but this was the point Joanie was there if I needed anything. A coffee refill did take place around half way through my meal by the other female waitress. She was also super nice and we talked a little about swimming. As I finished up dirty plates were cleared. The young man missed an opportunity to refill my coffee for a third and final time. I ended up deciding it was time to go. Check out is at the counter. The bill was correct and its done on an electronic pad. I used the restroom before departing and it was tidy with proper supplies. My first visit they were out of hand towels. It’s nothing fancy, but everything worked. I will be back because there are several more signature benedicts that must be tried out. Really great food and service. The place itself it a bit of a beach dive, but I say that in a good way and I do like it. I’m at a solid 4 and will be happy to spread word of mouth about this hidden Ocean View gem.

Great breakfast spot, with beach access! There’s little parking in front of the restaurant but the food is worth looking for parking. I am in love with mom and pops owned diners and this is one of them! Food came in a decent amount of time, and prices weren’t outrages. I had the Bay Breakfast, which included grilled banana bread that had the perfect amount of sweetness and texture. When you bite into this banana bread it had a little crunch & even though you may be full, you just can’t stop eating it! Hands down, amazing and a must try!

Yes and more please. The glowing breakfast reviews are right on point. Let me start by directing you to my photo of Benedict. No, I am not a food photographer. Yes, it was as good – even better – than this photo. Sally’s has generated a great deal of buzz for their Benedict, and this is the Popeye, one of eight versions on the menu: standard foundation with spinach, mushrooms, onions, and bacon(sans bacon is billed as the Olive Oil). I jammed on this until I had to stop myself from licking the plate. Every component was perfectly prepared and paired, and I was thrilled that the reviews were true. As a grits fan, though, I wasn’t thrilled with the somewhat coagulated and tasteless side I received, but it certainly wasn’t a deal killer. Andrew, apparently hoping to induce a massive coronary, had the huge ass breakfast combo: eggs, bacon, sausage patties, home fries, and two pancakes as big as your head. He, too, devoured it and commented how well prepared it was. Sally’s food gets an A! One note: this is an intimate(read small) no frills diner with a groovy Oceanview vibe(loved the beach chairs stacked up in the waiting area), and today there was a bit of a wait. No biggie in my book, but fine diners, be warned. The staff was super friendly and attentive, and quick to strike up a conversation with us when we initiated it.

The menu is diverse. If you cook these are menu items you either make it would like to try. The service is local, friendly and family like. I have eaten here only a few times because I love making my own breakfasts for either myself or when I have house guests. I have yet to make a lunch but it’s on the local foodie bucket list. This place is just what you’d expect out if a generous serving, high quality, local breakfast and lunch venue. I am having the Irish Benedict. I’ll come back and adjust fire if necessary but I am sure it will be delicious. UPDATE: Ok, maybe I said I would only update if it had to do it. Like, if there was an issue. Well it was so dang good I had to describe the Bene. If you love corned beef hash then this is your meal. Perfectly poached eggs resting atop a crispy English muffin with a generous slather of hash in between. The home made hash is from New potatoes and done just right with crispy and mushy parts. Delicious!

The food here is sooo good! The only downfalls are that it takes a while to get your food sometimes. The place is small too so you might ha e to wait for a table. Sometimes they run out of certain things but hey… thats life. Get there early! The reuben was amazing! The crabcake benny was phenomenal! The homefried potatos are fresh and good. Great breakfast/lunch/brunch experience!
