Culver’s Frozen Custard and Butterburgers

Culver’s is my go-​to restaurant for fast food in Norfolk. From their burgers, crinkle cut french fries, cheese curds or frozen custard, Culvers is hard to beat. The Butterburgers, chicken strips and fish are all excellent. My only complaint is their prices. It is difficult to not spend ~$ 15 on two people which is way, way too expensive for a fast food restaurant in my opinion.

Butter Burgers aren’t bad, but I also don’t feel like I’m eating a burger. The meat is so crispy and thin that you barely taste the meat. It makes them unique, I guess, but I don’t crave for eating a meat chip when I want a burger, I want a juicy patty. They don’t have traditional shoe string fries, which is my favorite. Onion rings have too much batter on them. However… I do love their custard, which is pretty much ice cream with a fancy name. Come here for the custard at least.
Customer service is usually good. However, I came in one time and the cashier tried to push me to get something that I had no intention of eating. There must’ve been some competition going on among employees, but the girl was sooo pushy that I just had to laugh. That was weird.

This was a nice Culver’s. We were in town for a wedding and this was very near our hotel. It is your typical Culver’s and not much of a differentiation from others. I deducted one star for something I never noticed before. I wasn’t feeling like a burger so I ordered fried chicken. They only had two options, a two piece and a four piece. I know this is nit-​picky, but for me two is too few, four is too much. I really don’t know why they wouldn’t offer a three piece? Maybe they do and its not on the menu. But everything was delicious.

Always a good experience at this Culver’s!
Today, using the drive-​thru, the Culver’s person welcomed me and even announced her name! Never had that happen at any fast food drve-​thru.

Great for a fast food restaurant.
My cranberry chicken salad was a surprise because the grilled chicken was so well cooked and tender, lettuce was fresh and crisp, condiments were tasty. I was a happy camper. He liked his burger. Culver, s root beer is good too. I hadn’t wanted to stop here but was very glad we did. A most pleasant surprise!

I still have no idea what a butterburger is exactly, but it is gosh darn yummpy!
Highlights of a trip to Culver’s:
1. Cheddar butterburger with bacon — Heart-​stopping and eye-​roll inducing
2. Fried cheese curds — Only on a recent trip did I notice these little nuggets of happiness
3. Concrete Mixer — Large with brownies and chocolate fudge please
Follow the preceding menu and you’ll find yourself seeing baseball being played in a field of corn. Wait, wasn’t that Iowa? Eh… who cares.

No matter where we go, Culver’s is always excellent. The food is good and the service is excellent and very friendly. If you haven’t tried it, frozen custard will make you not want ice cream again! I highly recommend this restaurant to you.
