Based on reading some reviews I made reservations for a business dinner here. Wow I was impressed. From the moment we entered to the time we exited the service was superb. Loved the hot towels to clean out hands and the prosciutto wrapped asparagus(compliments of the chef) were absolutely amazing. Steaks were of the finest quality and cooked to perfection. The lobster Mac and cheese was divine. I’ve eaten at many high end steakhouses and this one ranks right up near the top.

BEST. STEAK. EVER. From the moment we pulled up, to the moment they rolled us out of restaurant, everything was flawless. The hostess Brittany was so friendly! Our server was a fantastic balance of professionalism and personal flair. My husband ordered the Porterhouse(a 24oz), which was VERY much worth the(reasonable) wait. I enjoyed the Ahi Tuna, over crabmeat, asparagus and mashed potatoes and drizzled in a tasteful lemon sauce. Everything was so incredibly fantastic, I will never go anywhere else for good steak!

Had it for the day we married at the courthouse. It was delicious and we’ve been back a couple times now. My husband is a huge red meat eater and he loves this place! I loooove their mashed potatoes.

My best meal EVER and especially in Norfolk… this is a PRIME example of «you get what you pay for». Making a reservation was very easy, all done online through the app/website called Open Table. I made a reservation for a Monday night, about a week out and got the time we wanted(6pm). We got there a little early and were greeted by the doorman/valet driver who was very polite and told us to enjoy our meal. Once inside(very classy and beautiful, a perfect place for a special occasion) we were greeted once again by the hostess who was very happy, welcomed us to the restaurant, and made us feel very special. Once seated, we were immediately attended to by our waiter John. John let us look over the beer, wine and mixed drink menus and was very helpful from the get go. My girlfriend got a drink from the wine menu which she was very pleased with and I got the Monticello Mule which was very good. When it was time to order appetizers, entrees and sides, John was very helpful and suggested his favorite things on the menu. You could tell that he was very proud of not only the food from Byrd and Baldwin but about his suggestions. It always feels great when the waiter or waitress knows what they like and can confidently pick their favorite. He knew all the prices and specials that weren’t on the menu and I was very impressed by that(tons of things/prices to remember by heart). We got the appetizer with the cheese wrapped with crispy prosciutto and it was SOGREAT! Everything tasted fresh and was so complimentary of one another on the plate(HIGHLY recommend). I ordered the T Bone cooked medium and it was the BEST steak I have ever had. It was cooked to perfection and the taste was phenomenal, no sauce/seasoning was necessary to enjoy. My girlfriend got the NY Strip and she loved it, again perfectly done and it was the best steak she’s ever gotten to enjoy. For the sides we decided to try the mashed potatoes and the crab mac n cheese. They were both great, perfectly seasoned/salted and tasted fresh and the mac and cheese had GINORMOUS lumps of crab meat. We decided to skip dessert only because we were full. 100⁄10 would recommend for any special night out. GREAT dining experiences/experiences in general are all about the details and Byrd and Baldwin perfected every detail before the meal, during and throughout the meal, and after the meal! I can’t wait to go back.

If I lived in Norfolk, this would be one of my favorite places. The ambience is indicative of a 5 star restaurant. I had a 6 oz filet and a 6 oz lobster tail with a vegetable and mashed potatoes and it was delicious. I also had the best escargot that I’ve had in a while. My wife had fried shrimp which were the largest shrimp we have seen in a while. The only down side is it was a little pricey but worth it. Worth checking out when you’re in the area.

AMAZING!!! My husband took me here for our 24th Wedding Anniversary. After we arrived and opened the menu there was a Happy Anniversary card which had been signed by the staff and put inside the menu for us. The service and food were both amazing!!! Our server Kirk was the absolute best! He was so helpful and accommodating. We will definitely be returning.

My wife and I wanted a special place for a special celebration and we were not disappointing. The staff at Byrd and Baldwin Brothers made our 20th Anniversary incredible and an evening to remember. Whether it was Brian’s service and meal suggestions or James, the manager, and his guided tour of the establishment, to include the wine cellar, it was an incredible night to remember. I highly reccomend this restaurant to anyone wanting a special meal and experience.

Hand’s down the best steakhouse in Hampton Roads! 4 times and 4 amazing meals! When you arrive, you walk up the stairs to the hostess stand, then you either go down towards the bar or upstairs to the more formal dining area. The wood floors and the white linen table cloths are very classy. The waiters are in tuxedos or very nice suits and are«Johnny on the spot». The wine list is very extensive and ranges anywhere from $ 35 per bottle to in the thousands of dollars. Our waiter was very knowledgeable about the wine list and gave a great recommendation after our bottle of Prisoner(one of my favs). The follow up wine was Abstract, a great blend! After we ordered our wine, then was trying to decide on what deliciousness we were going to devour! This task is easier said than done with a menu that you just want to put on the wall and throw a dart at, due to all of the delectable choices! Appetizer was the prosciutto wrapped mozzarella. It was good, I would have liked a little more balsamic glaze and some roasted garlic! We each had a salad, iceberg wedge for me — holy cow the bleu cheese dressing had so much flavor and nice big chunks of bleu cheese! He chose the spinach salad, which again, was amazing! Now — main course — Ribeye is always my top pick here(so juicy and flavorful). The last time I had it I just wanted to keep the meat in my mouth for as long as possible because the flavor was so intense, you just want to enjoy it to the very last second! This time, I decided to go with the lamb chops and, of course, my choice did not disappoint. This came with Yukon gold mashed potatoes and some green beans. The flavor out of the chops was just melt in your mouth heavenly. My friend ended up getting the special, which was a dry aged 18oz(I think) Ribeye(different from the normal selection) and that piece of meat was so decadent. He was«oohing and ahhing» the entire time. Each bite was getting better and better. Fortunately, we shared with each other so we both got to have those amazing cuts of meat! Unfortunately, there wasn’t room for dessert. I’m sure one time I’ll get to try it! I always leave pleasantly full and very happy!

Didn’t want to scarf down processed turkey sammies from the hotel hospitality for Thanksgiving so upon a recommendation, I got dolled up and went to Byrd & Baldwin for dinner. Since I was alone, I decided to hit up the bar downstairs. Upon entering the darkened, rich wood, old steak house feeling bar, I felt like I was missing my red velvet smoke jacket. The air was taken out of that feeling pretty quickly after chatting it up with the«cocktail technician» Alexis. Alexis is way cool. Yeah, she knows her shit. They had a pre-fixe Thanksgiving menu going on this evening. Two items stood out to me: fried turkey and prime rib. Last minute, I decided to switch it up from the traditional and went with the prime rib, brussel sprouts, and cauliflower mash. The mash came out luke warm and, although tasted great, the prime rib was a bit salty. The brussel sprouts, though, were the bomb. Being a crucifeorus veggie and fortunately hanging out alone for the rest of the evening, I would eventually make my own bombs. Finished it off with their strawberry and banana foster desert. After the first bite, I totally went into a dog food aggression/guarding mode. If you were near me, you’d hear me growl. Yeah, pretty fucking good! Would I come back? Not sure.

Went here for a special occasion with a large party and the staff was still very quick and accommodating. I am very picky about my steaks and the one here was very decent. Not the best, but they are consistently good, which is much better than a one-hit-wonder. The waiter was very knowledgable and I was impressed with how well he tended to the large party. I have never been disappointed here. Expensive, but well worth the trip.

We were looking forward to dining at Byrd & Baldwin Brothers Steakhouse for my birthday dinner and were very disappointed. The dinner did have its high points but overall the dining experience was negative. My wife and I started our meal with a glass of wine and we could tell the waiter was disappointed we did not order a bottle. We have run into this before at other dining establishments that if you are not drinking bottles of wine or ordering cocktails one right after another you do not get good service. We started with a lump crab cocktail which was very fresh and tasty. I ordered the 8 oz. filet and by wife ordered the 6 oz. It was almost comical when they brought out our steaks… the steaks looked so small on these huge plates with no garnish other than a little flower. Other steakhouses would garish your plate with some onion straws or a couple of onion rings and some sort of light vegetable like vegetable spaghetti. Not Byrd & Baldwin Bro, just a bare plate with a piece of meat on it. Obviously they are not concerned with the presentation of the food — makes you wonder if they even have a chef because no respectable chef would allow their food to be served that way! The waiter assured us they could prepare our filet’s «Pittsburgh Style(charred)» so we ordered them that way medium rare. When they came out on the huge plate, they certainly were not Pittsburgh Style and my wife’s steak was cooked medium well and not medium rare. It was at about this point we felt the service decline to a point that we we were being ignored. We went ahead and ate the steaks since there was no one around to complain anyway! The steaks were tender and had good flavor they just were not cooked how we requested and for $ 38 each they should have been prepared as requested. We ordered the mashed potatoes and buttered corn. They were both very good just overpriced for the portion received. We literally did not see our waiter for 20 – 25 minutes so we asked a different waiter for a piece of cheesecake to celebrate my birthday. The other waiter did bring it out with a lit candle. When I tasted the cheesecake, I almost spit it out. It must have been frozen and then defrosted in a microwave because the outside edges of it were warm… actually almost hot and the inside of it cold, almost frozen. This from a «fine steakhouse»??? We were so disappointed in our dining experience and my birthday celebration. For $ 160++ we deserve a good meal and excellent service.

Wow. This is now definitely my favorite steak place in the Hampton Roads area. I’ve always heard great things about this place, so my boyfriend and I decided to try it for our anniversary. We went on a Sunday evening, but I decided to play it safe and set a reservation on OpenTable. Fortunately, there were only a few others dining in, so we had basically our server’s full attention. Upon being seated, we were presented with a cute paper signed by the staff at Byrd and Baldwin saying happy anniversary. I thought that was such a great touch for the evening. My boyfriend and I both ordered the Riesling wine, which was absolutely delicious. I also liked that we were left with a large wine bottle of water because I typically get pretty thirsty during my meal. For our appetizer, the prosciutto and mozzarella appetizer caught my eye, and I had to try it. This was probably one of my favorite appetizers in a long time. The prosciutto gave the appetizer a little bit of a crunch, but the mozzarella was so soft and fresh. I loved the garnishing of basil and balsamic vinegar that just added much more flavor. For our entrees, my boyfriend ordered the sirloin and I ordered the New York strip, both medium rare of course. Both were cooked to perfection! The portions were a good size, so good that we both had to take our food home. I loved the mashed potatoes and broccoli that came with my food as well. For dessert, I chose a crème brûlée, which was also very tasty. I do wish it had been a little more on the warm side. I would recommend this place for special occasions because it is very pricey, but worth it!

I needed the perfect spot to propose to my girlfriend. I chose Byrd & Baldwin Bros. and it was the best decision I ever made!(Besides the proposal.) What an absolutely wonderful memory this will be. Dinner was in the fantastically medieval tasting room in the wine cellar. It was private and beautifully lit with candles and a lone fireplace. The waiter was perfect and the food was absolutely unforgettable. It was one of our favorite restaurants and now it’s at the top of the list! Thank you all at B&BB, especially James, for everything! Till next time. :D

Very good food and service. My wife, 2 year old and I checked this place out for our anniversary. The ribeye we ordered was very good don’t get me wrong, but unsure if it is worth $ 40. Outback Chargrilled ribeye is just as good. Also, I questioned myself if this steak taste better since it cost a lot. The corn and mashed potatoes were top notch though. We also ordered the soufflé cake which was good too since it is bake to order. We spent around $ 160 with tip so expect to have a high bill. Our server was very attentive as well. On a side note, we brought our 2 year old. Later we found out was not a good idea since the place is not meant to serve very young children. There were no kids menu and the atmosphere was geared towards casual fine dining. If you choose to bring a young child, do not bring a stroller since there are stairs and no ramps in front of the restaurant and immediately after the host check in. Having no ramps is odd since it causes accessibility issues for older people as well.

Will be nice and rate two stars mainly on the simple fact that the location is spectacular, very tastefully done and comfortable space that is perfect for a business dinner and special event. However this place is striving to be in that 6 star class, the tier above Morton’s or Ruth Chris and it fell short. My first time having Harris beef that was aware of but was not impressed over the Strube or Allen Bros or simply good olé USDA Prime Texas beef. I always order medium as often under cooked to order and just above rare is what I like anyway so err on side of caution. But this port house was under cooked and hard a large percentage of tough fatty inedible pieces. That’s not what you expect of steak in that price range and either the beef or the seasoning used just did not have the taste either that is expected. Sides were marginal and over cooked. Apple gazpacho soup special was just a weird flavor profile, bland base, Apple sauce’ish in taste, with avocado, crab and some piece of fish, maybe salmon in it? Complete misfire by the chef. Living in Texas have learned to appreciate the taste of jalapeños with steak and when asked if can have a few sauté on the side, the answer there is usually yes sir, excellent choice. ok I was not in Texas, I get that. But most chefs know the that pepper profiles enhance beef, or most things, hence the rise of Siracha flavors down even to the Burger King level lately. This waiter seemed offended on the request as if I were some inexperienced diner asking for A1 or Henize 57. Stated he had nothing available yet steak showed up with a few scraps of pepper and some greasy onions, maybe I offended the cook too, who knows. What that waiter did not know I travel extensively for work and in the last 2 and half years or so have eaten in the likes of Rathburns, Killens, Vic & Anthony’s, Pappa Bros, 3Forks, Bohanan’s and Dickie Brennan’s, amongst a host of James Beard award establishments in New Orleans and Houston. Aside from being a well dressed wait staff, they were bland and infrequent, actually appeared a bit miserable, poor menu facilitation and overall a lack luster service presentation which is not of this price tier. Waiter and bust, but no head waiter or sommelier as expected with $ 48-$ 120 cuts. a large part of the experience for ~$ 100 a plate sans drinks, your paying for the quality of the steak, venue and service, failing two out of those three is not making the grade.

This is the epitome of a steakhouse. Dark walls, dark wood, flowers and servers in suits. If you want to impress your date, or take your loved one to a nice, special and romantic dinner out, Byrd and Baldwin is the place. We chose to valet park, since it was Harborfest. It was very convenient. Just don’t forget to tell your server to add the parking to your check. We walked in and were seated immediately. Our server gave us a wine menu, and gave us a few suggestions. We went with the OPP pinot. It didn’t disappoint. Then we got a lovely hot towel to wash our hands with and some very warm bread and butter. Our server gave us the specials which all sounded delicious, but of course we went with the steaks. I had the filet mignon and my date had the ribeye. We also split two side dishes, broccoli and steak fries. All of the food was amazing. There is a reason this place has 4 stars. The steak was on point. We both ordered them medium rare, which is what the server recommended. We were not disappointed. After finishing our dinner, we decided to indulge in some dessert. We were undecided. Should we get the key lime pie, or the chocolate sin cake? We went with the key lime. Though I do like it, I found that I like my key lime pie a little more tart than sweet, but over all it was worth the calories. Byrd and Baldwin is definitely a place where you celebrate a special occasion, or if you just wanna wine and dine your partner, come here! You won’t be disappointed and neither will your date.

Superb service, steak was flawless! No other way to put it. This restaurant is BEAUTIFUL! I had the Surf n Turf with blue cheese mashed potatoes, asparagus and lemon burre and enjoyed every last bit. I have found my new date night place. Our hostess was gracious enough to accommodate us despite not having a reservation on, from what I could see, a very busy night. Our server Kirk was great in suggesting the perfect wine pairing for our meal. The manager Logan stopped in and was very nice. He seemed passionate about his restaurant and very professional. I will be a regular at Byrd and Baldwin without a doubt.
