Remarkably slow and inefficient baggage unloading process; difficult to take after 36 hours of travel. Many inefficient processes built into the mil flight process from beginning to end make for a dehumanizing experience. No accountability or front end service personnel to give updates at this location. If you chose(or are chosen) to travel this way all I have to say is patience, patience and then when you run out of patience, try to find some more.

The first thing that struck me was that the staff were more friendly and helpful than at commercial airports. The terminal is spacious and well-equipped to meet the needs of most travelers. Some bathrooms have showers, in case the wait becomes too long, lol. The USO wasn’t the best, but it was late and not manned at the time we were there. It would be nice if the terminal was open 24/7, but overall it’s one of the better ones. Also, the free long term parking(up to 60 days) is just another great benefit. And how can anyone complain about free flights? This is one of the best benefits of serving in the military!

The terminal is clean, plenty of parking. The staff is friendly enough and helpful to a point. My biggest complaint is that you don’t know how much your flight is going to cost until you arrive at the counter. To make life easier for everyone why not disclose the cost on the Facebook page when they release the flight schedules…

If you have the opportunity to travel this way, be patient. It’s going to be a long process. Just getting your mind set around spending a good deal of time here will help keep you calm. We have traveled through on several occasions. I was happy to find a room to nurse in and even a crib in a dark room when our flight was delayed six hours & we had to stay in the terminal. This is not ideal when traveling with babies but it was relatively painless. There is a playroom for the children, a cafeteria, vending machines. It gets you where you’re going.

I am now in Norfolk VA on the huge base here and the air terminal has expanded since the 25 years I was LAST here! Then it was a single building, one room, two gates terminal, but now it has evolved into a multi-level terminal with elevators, huge spacious seating/waiting areas upstairs, a roomy USO with free internet access, reading material, etc, a dependent lounge, and even restrooms with single shower facilities! Downstairs are the check-in and passenger terminal counter, and even lockers to store your gear temporarily so you don’t have to drag your life in luggage all over the place; unfortunately the lockers are so small but inexpensive that you can’t place anything larger than a chihuahua, the lockers measuring about(very approximate) 15″ square. A small sports bag would probably fit inside with no problem and are located in front of the check-in counters. I love this terminal because the numbers they use have remained unchanged throughout the decades I’ve used and known of this terminal. I am told there is a free shuttle during working hours. I was originally advised free wifi is located on the top floor where there is even a huge charging station, but even downstairs the wifi was very fast and connectable. Terminal is NOT open 24⁄7 so make plans for lodging should you arrive here and don’t get out the same day. NOTE: Be prepared to sit with soldiers/airmen and LOTs of them as I discovered when I first arrived.
