Parking: located in a large shopping center with plentiful, open parking lot. Ambiance: outdated asian décor with multiple private hibachi rooms and a separate sushi bar room. Food: ordered sushi from here which came out in about 10 minutes on a Saturday evening. Tasted good, nothing to boast about. We sat at the sushi bar, so we were able to chat it up with the sushi maker. He later hooked us up with a free sushi roll, which tasted better than what we had ordered. The salad that came with my friend’s meal was tiny with a small amount of the ginger dressing. Overall: average sushi, good for large groups not ideal for a date due to very outdated décor. Meh… won’t be going out of my way to come here.

This place is hit or miss. Some days it is great… others not so much. Two out of the last 3 times that I have visited, my food was lukewarm. Today was probably my last time visiting this location. I wasn’t pleased. My food was tasteless and the chef went overboard on sesame seeds. I didn’t feel like complaining today. It was just a lesson learned and I won’t return. :(

These are the most unhappy employees I have ever seen. They seem angry and inconvenienced that we all came by. This was my second experience — the first was so bad I assumed they would be out of business if it was normal, so I tried again. My mistake. There is a much better Japenese option down the street at The Forum.

We’ve been going to Happy Sumo for over 10 years and sushi has been our personal favorite!!! The chef and staff are all super friendly and their sushi rolls are amazing!

Happy Sumo has very good sushi! They also have a lot of options to choose from. The food can be a bit pricey but you do get a lot lot of food! I would recommend this place for sure.

I love the sushi Happy Sumo offers. The phone customer service needs improvement, but overall this restaurant gets it done.

It’s good if you can make it during business hours. They have the strangest restaurant schedule. Other than that… best hibachi place I’ve been to. Food is very tasty. price is ok.

Great spot for lunch or casual hibachi dinner. Both sushi and hibachi consistently good.

This is a neighborhood sushi and hibachi restaurant for us. We come here regularly with the kids because it is extremely casual and laid back. It is never busy and service is very prompt. The hibachi is standard, and so is the sushi. The food is always fresh. Whenever the kids ask for hibachi and sushi, this is our place of choice.

Pathetic Service and Average food. Tried for Lunch was not busy but took long to come for food. Lady at hostess desk(think was owner) was very rude and didnt care much of customers. Servers were inattentive and Only served me water after i asked after my meal got over and gave it in a dirty glass. Only saving grace was Average food that i ate. Avoid going

Mediocre food, terrible service. They wanted to charge me a seating fee for the hibachi grill, even though I wasn’t there to eat. In addition, we had to wait 30 minutes before a hibachi chef showed up(I guess that’s what happens when you only have one hibachi chef on the schedule per night). And finally, they added gratuity on to my credit card, because they were afraid that I wasn’t going to tip them for the lousy service. I’d definitely avoid this place if you value your time or your money.

my friends and I came here several times when I lived in the area. These ppl were always so nice and got our food out right away. All we ate is sushi, so I can’t comment on the hibachi. They have a good dinner deal, $ 12 gets ur soup, salad and a roll. Love this place! I wish I still lived in Norcross so I could go back!

I have only been to the sushi bar. The sushi is okay for the price(Cheapo). I got the California Roll and Spider Roll.

Good value, good service, decent Japanese. Their $ 10.99 lunch special includes soup(same miso found at every sushi place), salad(not a fan of their dressing), and I chose the California roll and shrimp tempura. The tempura was fantastic! The roll was not. Their rice layer was of the cheaper, mushy variety that seems squeezed out of a tube. It was still tasty, but not phenomenal. For $ 11, though, it was a pretty good meal at pretty a good price. The interior is also very nicely decorated.

I ordered a sushi to go. They put it in regular white bubble take out box, not a sushi special take out box. When I got to my office, all sushi mash out! They tried to save time and money, service is so bad.

Visited here on new years eve with some friends. Ordered scallop and filet combo. Filet tasted gamey like rotten meat and i could not eat it. Never had filet anywhere that tasted like this. I don’t know where this place gets their meat but they seriously need to reconsider their supplier. I could not tell if it was just bad quality meat or if it was actually rotten meat. I left all my filet on the plate but no one cared to ask why. And the servers talking in their language right outside the room need to tone it down a bit. It’s annoying for the patrons. Another weird thing about this place is that they pre include 20% tip automatically onto the bill. I never heard of this practice unless it’s a party of 8 or more. Although there were 8 people at the hibachi table, it was actually 3 separate parties. I don’t think it’s right to be forced into giving servers 20% automatic tip. Last time i checked, customers get to choose how much they want to tip the servers depending on their service actually provided. Rotten food and unorthodox tip practice. I will never eat here again.

We go to Happy Sumo about 5 or 6 times a year and have never had a bad experience except for last night. The«waitress» was extremely rude. She did not ask for the menus back she demanded them them back. I was reading the sushi roll menu and she pulled it out of my hand. We there to celebrate my daughter birthday and we told her but she did not acknowledge me. So my wife told her again and she snapped at her that she heard her. I could not believe how rude she was treating us. The chef definitely made up for her bad behavior he was great as usual. We will go back but not looking forward to the rude woman that waited on us

I believe Happy Sumo has been around for awhile so I am surprised to see that there aren’t as many reviews on Unilocal.First off, I’ve only dined here about 2 – 3 times so my review will be based on those experiences. About 2 – 3 years ago when I lived around the area, I wanted hibachi but didn’t want to drive too far so ended up trying Happy Sumo based on the reviews on Unilocal. When you first arrive at the restaurant, it looks a little sketchy since it’s situated in an old shopping center. If you have trouble finding it, look for a «Love Shack» ;) Upon entering, you can obviously tell that the restaurant is old and it’s somewhat dark inside. Anyway, you can be seated at a regular table or the hibachi tables. The thing that is somewhat annoying is if you go during an off-peak time. If there aren’t enough people in your group, you are forced to wait about 10 – 20 minutes. I understand why they do this, but when you’re hungry, it is a bit irritating. The hibachi course is served with salad, miso soup, and then of course, the main entrée. To me, the salad and soup aren’t spectacular in any way and often doesn’t taste«fresh». But, the hibachi part of the entrée is actually quite good. I usually order one of the combinations(i.e. scallop & chicken) with fried rice. Their fried rice is delicious and isn’t overly salty.(Sometimes the hibachi chefs like to get a little soy sauce happy). The meat is also cooked well most of the time. But here’s my #1 complaint: The hibachi chefs seem to absolutely hate their jobs! Perhaps it being that we are going at a weird time or something, but it’s to the point that I don’t even want to watch them perform. There are no smiles on their faces or any kind of enthusiasm in the show. I mean, for what it’s worth, hibachi is not exactly on the cheap side and you’re really going to enjoy the show. Thus, I have never truly had a «wow» experience at Happy Sumo. Despite that, I decided to give HS a 3⁄5 star rating based on the food. I would not recommend going to HS if you were planning on going for an event or celebration because the environment just isn’t lively enough.
