It’s a decent size place. When you walk in, yes no one greets you and you look lost. After several minutes of seeking someone to help me order. A lady appeared from behind the counter. I wanted some food to go so I asked for a menu. I think the food that is already laid out is for a buffet style or if you are sitting down and eating. I order from the menu and they took a good 20 minutes to prepare it. Mind you there were only three drunk guys at the bar and one couple eating.(I watched a couple leave after waiting too long for their food.) The food did come out hot and was very delicious. Service isn’t too great. I would recommend this place only for somewhere for beer and chat for a while not to have a decent dinner for the night.

The reviews are true; good food but terrible staff. No one greets you everyone is disorganized and unprofessional. Go somewhere else if you want good customer service.

I came here for lunch with a friend and was pleasantly surprised! Yes, the place looks a bit suspicious because of the bar that is already open at lunch time? Day drinking during the weekday like that… to each their own :) They have such a large variety of for choices that were freshly coming out of the kitchen. They are also generous in serving size, so you can’t possibly be hungry after eating(I couldn’t even finish my entire meal). I noticed that there is a lot of tomato sauce based flavors in what I happened to have chosen. Am I an expert on Dominican food? Certainly not. However, it was delicious and I’d certainly like to try other Dominican restaurants in the future if they are as delicious as what I’ve tried at this place. Please refer to my pictures to see what I mean by plentiful choices :)

As soon as I walked in, no one was there to greet me, I had no idea if I had to sit myself or wait for a hostess. I decided to sit myself and waited for someone to offer me the menu. There was a whole bunch of drunks at the bar screaming at their children. I had to get up and get the waitress attention, she finally offered the menus but never came back. I got up and looked at the food bar and asked the waitress if I had to order from the menu there, she gave me an attitude and said you have to wait till I go to your table. My friends and I got upset after looking at the food bar it had old reheated food and we left after the waitress made us wait so long. Worst service ever! When service is that terrible is not worth me trying there food.

I would like to say that this is the best and most authentic Dominican cuisine I’ve had in Atlanta so far. Might now be good as the Dominican food in NYC, but it’s worth it. To the person that mentioned bad service since the waitress seemed to interact with the Spanish speakers… get out of here! It’s Dominican culture to want to create a welcoming place, think«Cheers» everyone knows everyone. If you sit there with a mad face and arms folded, yeah, you probably won’t get stellar service. Don’t hate on the culture aspect because you don’t understand that Dominican«customer service» is not the same as what you get at Chillis or Longhorns. The food isn’t made super fresh but it is soooo good. If you’re nice and open, this place is legit. Give it a try. If you have a Spanish speaking friend, bring them along, might help out. As a Dominican, I can vouch for the food here.

This restaurant is very close to the authentic food from my home land. I appreciate their lunch specials where they serve good portions. The food is delicious and if you are into«mangu» and fried eggs with fried cheese and salami then this is your place. I would give it 5 stars however the place could you a little makeover.

Food not better than what traditional Dominicans make at home. Fun environment to chill and dance

The food is delicious. The sancocho is amazing(best soup I have ever had)! I will admit that the customer service sucks! They serve friends and regular customers(spanish speakers) 1st even if they are at the back of the line. Ordering over the phone is painful because nobody speaks english. This restaurant could be soooo much better if they improved customer service. That is why I’m giving them only 2 stars.

Had read some good things about the food in this restaurant, but then also read some horrible reviews regarding the service. Went today for lunch and had the mofongo(fufu) with shrimp in a creole sauce and an avocado salad. The food was excellent and the service was pretty good. Not a white tablecloth restaurant, just a very solid ethnic restaurant. Do not expect spicy food, as Dominican food is not spicy, just good. Will definitely return.

Had the mangú breakfast this morning. Good comfort food. My only comment is that they apparently open on 10:30. At least, that’s when they opened today.

Very delicious! I love the stewed chicken over rice with a side of sweet plantain. I just wish I spoke Spanish or there were more employees that spoke English. The service is not that great, the employees have terrible customer service. My 2 stars are for the terrible service. Today I went in early was ignored for a few minutes. When it was time to pay I stood waiting to get my total, if I was a crook I could’ve just walked out, while the young lady just walked around. She ended up taking my card out of my hand and took it into the restroom with her. I was completely speechless. This was by far the worst experience, even though I have only had 2 pleasant experiences with the employees As much as I love the food I believe today was my lasttime spending money at this place.

Right now I’m burping that delicious stew chicken, chicken Empanadas, yellow rice and beans and plantains LOL. MAN! If you’re looking for an authentic Dominican restaurant this is the place. Café Dominicano is the real deal. You can smell the food before you reach the front door.(That’s what I’m talking about). This is a sit were you like spot. The menu is written in Spanish and English which I found helpful. The menu has a nice variety to select from. No complaints This restaurant is nothing decorative, and in my opinion doesn’t have to be as long as the food is good. This is a «mom and pop» type restaurant. The food tastes like you were eating right from someone kitchen. It’s nothing American about this spot. You walk in, you walk into Dominican Republic. I finally found a Spanish restaurant that puts me in the mind fame of Spanish restaurants in NYC. The Merengue music was also playing too, can’t forget that.

This was written up recently in the AJC. It’s located in a strip at the NW corner of Jimmy Carter and Britt Road, a pretty easy drive from anywhere in the Tucker-Embry Hills area as it’s not near the hustle and bustle of the Jimmy/I-85 exit. It was our first excursion heading out on the Britt Road, which was quite exciting. We got the Creole shrimp in the plantain/starch bowl, as well as the eggs and mashed plantains(mufongo? mofonga? something like that). None of it was spicy, which I think is the norm for this cuisine. It was good hearty comfort food. If you’re seeking hot/spicy, I don’t think this is it(though you can add hot sauce). The have a steam table of choices for lunch, $ 6 a plate. Sometime we’ll probably get some takeout from the steamtable. It had a few bone-in meats(which I’m not crazy about b/c I don’t like having to dodge shards of bone), but also 2 or 3 boneless looking meats. Some of the dinners were around $ 10 – 12, but other plates were slightly less. We’ll get back over here.
