This is possibly the most disappointing golf experience you can possibly have. the maintenance and watering is non existent! Carts are decrepit! this used to be one of the jewels of the central coast but now has been reduced to a goat patch. It is apparent that it is a neglected property. Such a shame!

Played Blacklake last week for the first time in a LOT of years — excellent course! We used our KSBY Golf Card(7 courses, $ 85), so the only expense beyond the card was a cart for $ 17. We played Lakes and Canyon: the former was in great shape, the latter in decent condition. Courses are challenging enough, and laid out well. Staff were all friendly and engaging. Look forward to a return visit. Cheers! RL

They are letting this course run down. The tee boxes were rough and uneven. There is no place on the course to get water or wash your hands. They have the water turned off at the restrooms. The driving range is in serious need of some attention. The service in the club house and bar leaves much to be desired and the food is mediocre at best. Save your money and play someplace else. Yes you can search around and find some good deals here but it is hardly worth it. There is a lot of potential at this course but it is unrealized.

Price isn’t bad, use the golfnow app for better rates. They currently have some good, all inclusive deals which make it worth your while. It’s partly the drought but the courses themselves have seen better days. The range is good and they have a putting green but the fairways have been better. The greens aren’t too bad but there’s a lot of dirt and patches on the fairways. Straight forward course and fun to play but don’t expect the best grass. Service is friendly and the overall vibe is good.

Another great golfing trip. They keep this course nice all year. Easy to play with wide fairways and large greens.

Worst ever! The fact I’m even giving them a review just ruined my day. Do I have to give them a star

The course is really beautiful and a challenge. Three different nine hole courses, each with a unique personality. Even more important, the people working here are so nice! The food in the restaurant is great and the prices are sure right. They know how to make drinks also. Golf courses usually have good food and drink, but Blacklake is really good. The prices for golf at a Nicklaus designed course are really reasonable. Weather can’t be beat! Really a best kept secret!

One of my favorite course of all time. My grandparents live on the course, so every time we go up for holidays or a visit, I go hack it up with grandpa for a bit. We play for free, as he is a member, so I couldn’t tell you about the green fees but I hear they’re very affordable. Three 9 hole courses and each is great. The Oaks is windy and narrow, the lakes is wider but more water and the canyons is the toughest in my opinion. The grill is decent and the same with the pro shop. Weather is always good and the course is always quiet and relaxing. Just a great place to play

This is a tough review for me. 3 yeas ago this would have been 5 stars easily because it was a well maintained course that had very reasonable prices(especially if you purchase a membership in their rewards club). As a result I loved playing here. But the conditions here have rapidly deteriorated the past year. There are 39-hole courses: Oaks, Canyon, and Lakes. Oaks is pretty good but don’t go looking for balls OB, lots of poison oak. Drainage on the Canyon and Lakes isn’t the greatest so you’ll get a ton of mud around the fairways even if it hasn’t rained in a while(especially on the Lakes which I find to be the most poorly maintained of the 3). The greens on the Canyon course seem to always be littered with foliage and branches and not that smooth. I still play here because it is reasonable, but I definitely play Blacklake’s sister course(Avila Beach) a lot more.

Nice course if you are someone who sprays his/her shots a lot. Decent sized fairways, at least in my opinion. Course is fair and thought the price wasn’t too bad, at least compared to the courses in the L.A. area. Easy to walk or they offer driving carts. I began my round with a short 125-yard par 3. Not too exciting, but I was glad to begin with an iron instead of having to hit a driver. Was solo for the first nine, it was a Tuesday afternoon, but I joined a couple of really nice retired gentlemen for the back nine and we had a great time. From the starter to the people in the restaurant, everyone was very nice. Try this course once, unless you live in the area, then go to one of the better courses in the area.

although the course is interesting enough and challenging on some places, the management and pace of play should make the rating a mediocre one at best. when we played this course, we waited up to 15 minutes on many tees and when a «ranger» finally drove by, he told us that there was«nothing» he could do to speed things up. it was a beautiful day with bright blue sky which kept us from being totally frustrated by the long delays and waits.

A buddy and I played on Saturday — a beautiful day, it was, with gentle winds and partly cloudy skies. As mentioned in other reviews, BlackLake is three 9 holes, and, each one is pretty good. Other reviewers complained about the fairways, roughs and tee boxes, though, I had no complaints with any of it. As a matter of fact, each hole(we played Lakes and Oaks) was very well kept. Trying to find the place was a little difficult since there are no signs at all, from Nipomo to the course. No biggie, we eventually found our way. As for the greens fees, they were very affordable — $ 30 including a cart. Way cheaper than in the Bay Area. I didn’t eat any of the snack food, so, I have no opinion. They were bbq-ing tri-tip, chicken and ribs on our first turn — smelled delicious. Cheap green fees, nice layout, quiet locale will draw me back. $ 20 for 6 Corona’s I thought was a bit steep, but, my buddy said that’s normal for a Golf Course. At least I am not much of a beer drinker. Ya feel me?

I don’t golf, so this review is about the Black Lake Golf Course Bar & Grill. «Bar and Grill» is stretching it. It was really just a nice snack bar. The food was okay and it was fun to eavesdrop on the duffers, but I wouldn’t go again.

For their food at the snack bar. 3.5 stars We happened to come here yesterday to see my cousin on his retreat(part of their plans for their last day) and we stumbled into the snack bar to have a few drinks and appetizers. We ordered two Orange Julius’, two Sunset at Black Lakes and one Black Lake Mai Tai for the alcoholic drinks and one grilled chicken salad, one chicken tenders basket that came with fries and a salad, and their pulled pork sandwich special for the day that came with fries and coleslaw. The salad was standard and the chicken tenders were large in portion and had a unique flavor to them due to the rosemary in the batter. I actually enjoyed the flavor. it was not salty nor too flavorless. It went well with ranch. I didn’t have a taste of the pulled pork sandwich but it came on a cheese bun and it looked like it was barbequey in taste, which is not a flavor I’m too fond of. Only a ¼ was eaten of the sandwich and we took home the rest. The bill came out to $ 82 and some change due to ordering a few non-alcoholic beverages as well. so it seemed everything was slightly priced a bit higher due to the snacks coming from a golf resort. It wasn’t that great of a resort from my perspective but I sure believe the service was excellent and quick! She manned the entire place for awhile very well and I wasn’t disappointed with the basket I ordered. :) Don’t know when I’ll ever come back as we happened to come here only to visit someone. but I wouldn’t steer people away from this place. It’s a nice low-key golf course that isn’t too uppity up like at some other places.

Oh boy. This course is an utter disappointment. First off, I would be less scathing if the prices weren’t where they were. THECOURSE: The first thing I noticed is that you cannot tell the difference between the rough and the fairway from the tee boxes. The course grass is very poorly maintained with many dead patches all over the course and copious weeds to compliment. The sand traps have small rocks in them. The tee boxes are either overrun with weeds or covered with dead grass. The cart paths are laughable and there are no cart restrictions around the greens so the course is entirely tracked with tire marks. The only thing the course had going for it was the greens. They were in good condition compared to the fairways. THEPROSHOP: Impolite staff coupled with a poor layout. THECANTINA: Two deli sandwiches cost $ 20 and it took them 10 minutes to make them. At the turn, I had to seek someone out to purchase a beverage. I meant it, I seriously had to walk into the kitchen area to find someone to sell me a beverage after I waited for a couple minutes. Ridiculous. THERANGE: Laughable. If this course was a municipal course, the upkeep would make more sense. But Black Lake bills itself as a golf«resort» and is among the priciest courses in San Luis Obispo County. The condition of this course is absolutely unacceptable and it should be avoided altogether.

I’m disappointed with how Blacklake has maintained the course. It has definately gone down hill. The fairways are not as lush as they were, and the greens are not as true as they should be. With Cyprus Ridge and Monarch Dunes nearby, Blacklake needs to do some serious upgrades to attract more players. UPDATE11/25/2010: I was contacted by the General Manager Mike Brabenec, and he assures me that substantial improvements have been made. I’m happy for this information, and will definitely play the course again soon. It’s a beautiful setting and I like the 3 nine courses.

Three 9 hole golf courses here, and very challenging. Course knowledge is very important here. Winds around through a few housing developments, very pretty and well maintained. A lot of trees, hills, dog legs, etc. On one of the courses a hole is a blind shot to the green, from the top of a hill, over a huge patch of bushes. If you are up for it, they also do replays here for a reduced price.
