I shop at Tony’s when I’m in the area for my in-laws or on business and I like a good coffee, so I was liking the addition of a café to the store. Tony’s had made some good changes and I was thinking this would be one of them. Not so much. Took my mother in law & wife last week and figured I’d get a coffee while they shopped. My wife and I were also going to split a large smoothie, so we’re looking at about $ 10 sale. I thought I was first in line but somehow two other customers(one a Tony’s employee) got in front of me(one I think had been waiting for an order so fair enough). No problem in any event, I stepped back and was willing to wait my turn. Surely, it could only be a few minutes. Problem was, once these two customers got their smiley service and everything they wanted, the girl/young woman at the counter walked away to fill popcorn boxes by the front door, leaving me standing there looking like an idiot. She actually said something like«I have to go fill popcorn» as she walked away from the register. She left, and I watched her fill popcorn in confused disbelief. She looked over a few times but dismissed my presence. I expected her to come back at any time but she kept filling popcorn. By now she had about 20 boxes filled, I was thinking it had to end. There was another woman making smoothies so I asked her if I could order, she looked at me like I was speaking Greek. When the other girl came back behind the counter it wasn’t to take my order but instead to have a conversation under breath with the woman at the smoothie machine. Again I asked if someone could please take my order, now they both looked at me like I had open oozing sores on my face. Another customer behind me — an older lady there with her husband — tried to jostle them from the grip of the trance imprisoning them in a customer service oblivion but alas, it was not to be for her either. She walked away. Convinced there was just some misunderstanding or they were hard of hearing I hung around another minute, pleading once more for one of them to take my order. Again, ignored completely. Maybe there was some power struggle afoot. Where they locking horns to see which one of them would be rendered subservient to the other by having to take orders? Who knows. Disgruntled and perplexed, I left after bestowing a few parting thoughts. I found my wife in the aisles, who was astonished that after ten minutes there I still hadn’t managed to get our drinks. Heeding the wisdom my brother imparted upon me long ago — that you can’t expect competence from people or you’ll go through life disappointed — I thought to let it go, but my wife insisted I tell the store manager. The store manager was quite young and while he seemed to care, he failed to correct the situation by getting me my drinks. Still not sure if Lavazza is acctually part of the store or not(I got conflicting info on that), but the customer service failures of that business reflect poorly on the store as a whole in my eyes. Lavazza Café in Tony’ Finer Foods gets an «F-» grade from me for customer service. And I hate writing long rants, I do apologize, but I don’t think it would be fair for me to give them a ONESTAR rating w/o well explaining the rationale.
