El Potrillo

This place is THE BOMB. We usually get it once a week!

The people are kind, the service is good and the ambiance is cozy, so I give them an extra half-​star. Food is standard for Mexican American restaurants in smaller towns like Nicholasville; your best bet are probably the fajitas. The salsa is lacking in heat or flavor, but tomato quality hasn’t been very good this year so I’ll give them the benefit of the doubt. Really wish they could have a few authentic offerings on their menu like pozole, but I’m not sure how many people would order it. Would be really great…

I am a regular of El Potrillo as my lady and I dine with them about once a week. The food is usually very good (though sometimes inconsistent) but I do not recommend carry out service. Evey time we do carry out (usually about a third of the time), they forget something. It’s never anything as important as an entrée, but the chips are kinda underwhelming when they forget the salsa. The last time we ordered, I got the Chili Colorado. It was delicious, but they forgot my tortillas and it threw the entire experience off. I’ll surely be back. I love Mexican food and it’s my favorite in town. However, I doubt I’ll do carryout again.

This is a very consistent Mexican restaurant! Good food, friendly staff and really large beers! The salsa is great for those who don’t like chunks, some do, some don’t, the salsa is purred baby food smooth, the flavor is awesome. I do like both chunky and smooth so this is no issue for me. My daughter loves it. All the normal Mexican dishes are great, but get something different and you won’t be let down. Shredded pork dishes are quite good! Faves! Did I mention how large the beers are! Huge! XX on tap!
There is one bad thing… The seats in the booths are literally 2×8 planks and literally the most uncomfortable seats of any restaurant, anywhere! There are table and chairs… I strongly suggest them.

Good food and good atmosphere

Ordered the enchiladas supremas which included a chicken, beef, cheese, and bean enchilada topped with red sauce, cheese, lettuce, tomato, and sour cream. $ 7.75. Nothing stood out about this meal and it felt like fast food preparation. For the money, I suppose that was sort of expected, although the Jarritos drinks were a little more expensive than they should’ve been. There was nothing wrong with the entrée, just have tried better in this Mexican food tier.

Great food. Great waitress but not much room for waiting but well worth it.

This is my favorite Mexican restaurant in Nicholasville. I eat here several times a month. If you like flavorful heat I suggest the tomatillo sauce, it is what keeps me coming back on a regular basis.
