Went in thinking gumdrops and lollipops, this must be a great candy place. Went in to purchase some candy and fudge. If i had not bought the fudge this would be a 1 star review because while the place has that classic 50s feel to it, it tasted as if the candy was still in the jars from the 50s since all the chewy candy i had picked out was hard and clearly past its shelf life. The fudge, superb! the ice cream menu looked amazing but Salem valley farms has caused me to boycot all other ice cream providers.

Awesome ice cream, a little pricey, but it’s well worth it for the quality and superior taste. However, the candy is just your average run of the mill bulk candy and it is VERY overpriced. Come for the ice cream, but hit up the local Walmart if you’re looking for chocolate covered peanuts and sour patch kids.

Don’t be fooled by the sign and try the breakfast! Best breakfast and the homemade corn beef hash was amazing! New favorite breakfast spot

Pretty good place for breakfast. They made me a custom pancake with bananas on it the other day. Today I tried to confirm the rumors that they have Salem Valley Farms ice cream and they do not. The mint chocolate chip was green and had small chips. Two attributes that are not consistent with Salem Valley Farms mint chocolate chip ice cream.

Oozing with old-fashioned charm, I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food. Ice cream and candy is yummy, but so is the chili and other summer fare. The essence of summer!

I really like the atmosphere of the store. Very vintage. The selection of treats is pleasantly large, and for good prices. I especially like the ice cream floats served in the back.

This was our first visit and we were surprised. We follow them on Instagram and seen their pics but it’s exciting to walk though the door. The place was packed. It is summer and it is also Saturday. Kids, couples and whole families were there waiting in line to get a tasty treat. Right inside the door you are greeted with rows of brand name candy. The place is so colorful inside that it makes you happy. Walk a little further and you will see where they make handmade chocolates, fudge and cupcakes. Towards the back they serve ice cream, Smoothies, frozen yogurt, and even soups and sandwiches. The place is clean and bright and even with all of the people we didn’t stand in the long line very long. You can sit inside or on their deck. Open 7 days s week

We were in the mood for soft serve after an evening at the beach and Unilocal led us here. What a cute old fashioned place! Candy everywhere, with a counter in the back for ice cream and even some other good choices! Bring cash if your order will be less than $ 10 and don’t be discouraged by the line, it moved quick! Get your ice cream and enjoy outside on the small deck!

This is our go to ice cream spot… they have both soft serve and hard ice cream. The pistachio is a favorite… the good kind, not artificial bright green, but white deliciousness. We love sundaes and sodas. The kids have fun checking out the candies in the jars. We have not tried food from the grill yet, but this is a great place to stop for ice cream after spending time at the beach.

Went there for the first time with my kids, this past weekend. Have to say the best ice cream around. Every type of candy that you can imagine. I was in heaven. Will definitely return. Very retro… Great Place !!!

PARENTS. Attention all parents! As soon as you bring your little girl or boy into here, good luck trying to drag them out or leaving there empty handed because this place has got the quirks and eye candy galore for your rascals! This shop has definitely got the«teehee,» old 70’s diner vibe. Almost like something you’d see on Food Network’s «Unwrapped» but never thought you’d ever experience in real life. It’s truly special as soon as you step inside. I did my best to quickly pass by the candy and head straight for the ice cream counter towards the back. Just had a cavity so couldn’t afford to make myself look bad in front of Dr. Forceps&Probes again. I was overwhelmed but evilly laughing to myself in my head when I saw all the yummy flavors they had. I wondered why they didn’t have more soft serve flavors(10 flavors), bummer since I like soft serve over hard serve(35+ flavors). It was beginning of July and I was feeling the upcoming fall festivities so I went with one of my all time favorites: pumpkin hard ice cream. The guy behind the counter had me go out the door and meet him at the window on the deck to order. Two windows so people don’t have to go inside to get ice cream! How cool. Window was low enough for little children to order as well. Back to the my ice cream; I got waffle cone, one scoop(about the size of an adult’s fist) Portion was great. Ice cream tasted freshly churned and full of flavor. Gumdrops & Lollipops screams SUGARANDCAVIT… I mean CANDY.

Gum Drops & Lollipops — Niantic, CT — 5÷31÷2015 Whenever I’m in the mood for ice cream or candy, this is the first place that pops into my mind. Talk about a family fun wholesome place! Locally owned and operated this place is a throw back to a distant past. Decorated like an old time ice cream shop and the people are super friendly! They have an incredible selection of candy and it’s one of the places that carries Rum Raisin Ice Cream(my fave). I usually get a hard ice cream vanilla malted milk shake. So if you’re looking to take the family out for an awesome after dinner treat, go to Gumdrops and Lollipops in Niantic! You will love it. P. S. They serve other foods for lunch and dinner as well…

Just got home from this shoppe and I could not wait to write a review! We stopped in as a family to get some ice cream on our way back from Mystic. It is absolutely adorable! My husband and youngest got their flavored soft serve which is very reminiscent of the Cape’s soft serve. It has the flavor«swirled in» with the ice cream. They both gave huge thumbs up. Our oldest son got a standard vanilla soft serve, and declared it better than Dairy Queen. Pretty big for a 8 year old I tell you! I ordered a cone of the grasshopper ice cream and it was just perfect. They offer sugar, waffle, and wafer cones. Their sizes are standard and they have soft serve and hard scoop ice cream. There is definitely something for everyone there. The kids each got a small bag of candy, and I nabbed some Salt Water Taffy. They have an amazing looking selection of chocolate and fudge that we will have to try another time. My husband got tempted by the lobster roll, and ordered a hot one. They also offer cold. It was easily one of the best«Connecticut» lobster rolls I’ve had. The bun was toasted. The drawn butter sublime, and the lobster meat sweet. Absolutely delicious! They served it with some pickles, homemade chips, and coleslaw. We did the whole meal backwards, but it was worth it! The inside has a a great retro feel with classic red décor in the scoop shoppe area. It is a quintessential coastal candy and ice cream shoppe. A MUST do!

This place is great. I took my family here this past Sunday. It is set up like 50’s ice cream shop/candy store. The candy is glass jars and a great selection of cnady. They have fudge and chocolates. We came for ice cream. I got an ice cream soda and my wife a root beer float. It was absolutley the best ice cream soda I have ever had. The vanilla ice cream was outstanding. It was made the way it wassupposed to be. If you are in Niantic stop in. You won’t be disappointed. I assume in the summe rit is packed since Hole in the Wall beach is right behind it.

The food was good but the candy was horrible it was so hard and not fresh I would like it better if they had fresher candy, the food was ok but the chicken I ordered had pickle juice all over my chicken, the service was too inviting but the waitress was nice. The setting was retro and that was cool but really only a one stop in place that I would only go to in the summer.

Went for the ice cream and was not disappointed with my cone of cookie dough. My boyfriend got a chocolate milkshake that he described as «a scoop of ice cream with a straw in it.» I would come back though. It’s conveniently located right next to the entrance of Hole in the Wall beach.

I’m finicky about my ice cream. The night before we visited this place, we stopped and got an ice cream cone at another place. That scoop was tiny, but even worse, it tasted stale. Thanks to the guy at the Book Barn down the street, we found Gumdrops & Lollipops. My favorite ice cream back home in Massachusetts is Richardson’s in Middleton. The ice cream here is every bit as rich and super-premium as theirs. The generous small size was a satisfying portion without being too much. It was nice to sit on the back deck overlooking the beach entrance. This is the place to go for ice cream in Niantic.

Uhm, this place is adorable. They have an ice cream counter with a basic grill at the back here you can order either inside or outside on the deck as you come off of Hole in the Wall beach. The front has a bunch of jars of serve yourself penny candy and the middle is classic candy store fudge and truffle fare. They have a bunch of flavors to choose from for ice cream(and fudge and truffles) and it is quite tasty. I loved that the chocolate chip cookie dough had super generous chunks of cookie dough(unlike Baskin Robins!). The mint chip is also great, but it has really big chunks of chocolate which aren’t for everyone. The penny candy section of the store has a pretty good selection, if a bit random seeming(sugar daddys and mary janes FTW though). Obviously it can be a bit of a chaotic nightmare when the place is full of kids, and it’s difficult to form a long line for the ice cream/grill with all the seats. But really if that’s the biggest complaint then they’re doing something right. Super excited for this spot I love a good old fashioned candy/ice cream shop.
