When the Burrito Shack was on RT7 it was very good and we enjoyed going but since they moved to Newtown… very disappointing!!! The kids working there are friendly but the owner… well let’s just say«if your going to be an a**hole» to your staff and customers then it’s time to get out of the business!!! The burritos are not the same quality since the move… such a shame because they were delicious before the move!!! The new place is very cute and clean but the owner is grumpy and rude to the kids that work there and to the customers!!! Zero stars for the owner and the quality of the food… but for the kids who tolerate him and give the customers a smile…5 stars

The Burrito Shack is a great restaurant in Newtown Connecticut. I liked the diner atmosphere. Today 02/03/2016 i ordered the Pork and Cheese Quesadilla and Garlic Fries. I loved the burrito! The salsa was too watery and chunky. The fries were generic with a garlic seasoning. I am still giving this restaurant 4 stars because it earned it!

Such a disappointment. We were thrilled to see a taqueria open in Newtown, and had high hopes since this was a popular business that was relocating. BUT… Here is what we experienced several times while we tried to let them ‘settle in’ to their new location: An owner who seems uninterested in his customers unless they are one of the buddy crowd. Employees who are apathetic to the point of being rude. Twice when we were there on a week night within an hour of closing we heard the cook refuse to make our order(fish tacos) because ‘it was a pain’. The counter staff seem dispirited and lifeless. The food itself is ok, but the burritos rely on too much rice and bean filler(neither very tasty) and taste bland. The menu is bloated with many standard burger joint items and unfortunately fails to deliver a savory taste treat that is the hallmark of good burrito places. We are so sad because we really wanted to love ir, and we just can’t.

Quality is slightly lower than Chipotle or Qdoba. But regardless of that they do make a tasty burrito. Brisket and chicken are my two favorites… The one to stay away from is the ground beef… Very dry and almost tasteless. I wish the salsa they used was fresh and not out of a jar. In fact. there are a few items on the menu that would be much better fresh instead of out of the freezer… Regardless I’ve filled two of their frequent burritto cards… Hope this place stays around and reads these reviews. If they do they’ll only get better and be here for years to come.

So delicious! The burritos are a good size and they have a lot of options for what to put in them. Every time I come here it always hits the spot! I wish they had more locations…

Yum! Our first time eating here after driving by many times. I got the crab cake burrito and my husband got a chicken burrito. Both were delicious! Made to order/fresh. You can dine in or grab takeout. Great spot!

I was a customer on the first week of opening. My wife placed an order for four. Since this restaurant has an open view. I started took look for faults in food handling. I spotted a guy in the right rear wearing an orange cap flipping tortillas with out wearing gloves. The icing on the cake is when he took his right had and pressed his index finger against his nose and slid his hand upto his wrist. Then he continued on flipping with out washing his hands. That day was a cold and everyone’s nose was wet. I also observed the owners wife grabbing fist of full cooked beef with out gloves and making burritos. I requested to speak to the owner outside and I yelled at him for being such a disgusting business. EATSOMEWHEREELSE! !!!

Stopped in for a quick bite late afternoon. Didn’t want to eat too much so grabbed 2 traditional tacos. Awesome! Simple and delicious. Also they have a great assortment of hot sauces. I found one I loved and asked about it. Turns out they sell bottles of the hot sauce so went home with that as well.

We had passed this restaurant many times over the past six months and finally stopped in for lunch today. We were expecting some good food as this restaurant had previously operated in the Town of Wilton for a number of years. My husband ordered the Taco Plate and I ordered the Grilled Tilapia Burrito from their«Specialities» section of the menu. The girl who took our order up at the counter brought our food over to the table. The burrito seemed hefty when I picked it up to open it. I cut the burrito in half and didn’t see much fish inside, just mostly rice. I took a bite and didn’t taste much fish either so I unwrapped the burrito and started looking through the contents. There were literally only about three very small bits of fish, lots of rice and some coleslaw. Really? This is one of your specialties? At $ 6.95 that just unacceptable. I took my tray up to the counter and addressed the cook(owner?). I asked why there was hardly any fish. He looked nervous and just offered to make another one. Not wanting to chance another disappointment I changed my order to the very basic Taco Platter which consisted of three ground beef tacos in hard corn tortilla shells, cilantro-lime rice and black beans as sides. No one can mess up this basic Mexican staple right? Well, sad to stay… It can be done. What I got was tasteless over cooked ground beef(was it deep fried?) stuffed into shells and topped with lettuce and shredded cheese. No chopped tomatoes, no seasoning and No taste! The sides were also bad. The black beans were right out of a can and the rice was extremely bland. Even their salsa was blah and tasted like it was right out of a jar. My husband and I were very disappointed! We both felt the taco meat used in the tacos was awful. If the owners of this restaurant care about staying open they really need to learn to prepare Mexican food. We both agreed we’ve had better tacos at Taco Bell. We won’t be going back!

Quaint little place… clean, and friendly staff… i ordered a burrito… they allow you to pick your filling, what kind of beans, and what kind of salsa… chicken, black, and spicy… it was ready in no time, and was delicious. I think it’s my new favorite local Mexican place… although they have pulled pork and hamburgers as well… I’ll try them at a future visit.

Yum! Really enjoyed the crab cake burrito! Stuffed with rice and black beans. Thai spices with a little bit of sweetness. Hubby had stoner burrito with four types of meat. This is a shack type place but it’s clean, inexpensive and it’s byob! Friendly staff too! Going back soon!

Better than chipotle quality with fantastic taste They forgot my small order of guac(wasn’t charged for it though) and I didn’t even care since I only ordered it for the salt and garlic chips which were SO fantastic that I would have refused to dip them anyways. My burrito was a «The big one»(steak, pork, chicken) with both black and pinto beans, pico de gallo, and a wheat wrap. The steak was cut into large cubes, like the chicken. I could see this turning most people away from the steak that expect slices compared to cubes. Either way, this is the best burrito I’ve had outside of a legitimate sit down restaurant. This in my new burrito place.

This is very good Mexican food. I have eaten there a few times, and was always satisfied. The portions are generous. The food is delicious. Made to order. Fresh. The prices are reasonable. They offer a good variety to make your perfect burrito. Even though it’s made to your order, the wait time is minimal. Professional staff, clean premises. Today, my bank card had a glitch. I rarely carry cash, but had enough to cover all of my order but one burrito. The owner made it for me anyway, stating that he did not want to see one person go without. So sweet and kind. They had my repeat business even without this kind gesture… but especially now. … Good vibe, great food, and fantastic people dishing it up. I highly recommend this place if you like superb burritos.(or tacos, or chimichangas, or quesadillas, etc.)

Awful and not worth the calories. Sliced steak burrito was chunks of grizzly chuck steak in some weird bbq sauce. No sign of the hot or to Matilda sauces that were supposed to be in it. Salsa was from a jar. Chips unappealing. On the bright side I did get a nice cold bottle of water.

Loved this place! The staff was very nice and one of the chefs even held the door open for us when we came in. Little details like this make a huge impact. I ordered a Mac and cheese burrito. Delicious! It was prepared very quickly(we came in around 1) and was very fresh. The menu offers a lot of options, both American and texmex, and my burrito combined the best of both worlds. Great size too, especially for the price. The cashier asked us how our food was and even addressed me by name. So sweet! I love the friendly, homey vibe they’re going for here. It’s working! I will definitely be back again to try some of their other offerings. I hope to have many more great experiences in the future!

Burritos not bad. The taco salad my wife had was better than other shells she had. The home made chips are tasty. Guacamole is a bit sparse in the burrito but good on the salad. No table service and the place could be a little cleaner. Wanted to give 3.5 stars. The pulled pork is probably better than the brisket because they do bbq catering. Will try that next time. It is a burrito shack, not fine dining. Good for quick lunch.

Stopped in here to try a burrito after driving by a few times in the past few weeks. My expectations were high since I had been dreaming about dinner all day, but I wasn’t wowed with the food. Everything was good, but I was looking for a burrito that would blow me away, and this wasn’t quit it. I tried to ground beef burrito and added guac. For the price, the size was excellent. I didn’t feel like there was much of any sour cream or cheese, which it needed. Overall, it was good, but I wouldn’t drive out of my way for it.

Will go back, it was only open a week when I went. Menu was pretty good, although a California burrito should really be a giant fresh veggie concoction rather than something with french fries shoved in. Didn’t get that. Got a regular chicken burrito with black beans and pico de gallo. Tortilla was not warmed up, so it didn’t really wrap well. Rice: Bean ratio was heavily in favor of the rice. Tasty burrito though, ingredients seemed fresh although the pico de gallo was very limited. But no tortilla chips? Really? What’s up with that? Will go back in a while once they have been running and figured things out. Has promise.
