This is the worst grocery store. I have never, I repeat never, gotten produce that didn’t rot within 24 hours. Prices aren’t great, fish is sub par, the meat is beyond disgusting, and the employees. Oh, the employees. I use the self check even when I have 100 items because not a single cashier is tolerable — they are creepy, overly talkative, not knowledgeable, and just off. When I’m there I’m angry. McCafferys is worse bc of politics. Whenever possible I drive to Warrington for Wegmans or Princeton to Trader Joes.

I hate this store. I hate this store with a passion. I live up the road. Have lived in town for 20+ years. I remember when the old Acme was in operation on Sycamore St. I remember when this was built and the politics around it and the corn field it was built upon. We all have lottery dreams. If we won the lottery, what would we spend that money on? Some sort of dream we wishfully think of. One of my dreams would be to buy the land this grocery store sits on. Kick out the tenants. Vacate the property and burn the place down to the ground! While it burns down to the ground I would do a dance around the giant fire, throwing quality organic locally raised foods into the fire, the finest foie gras from Canada, high end cheeses from France and the best smoked salmon from Scotland. After this celebration I would allow Whole Foods to rebuild on the land and I’d cover any taxes that they incur from operations for however long possible. If they refused. I’d just plant a corn field back on it for serenity purposes. It should not be of any surprise that I wish Whole Foods to buy the grocery store out. I can not think of one positive thing about this grocery store. I go out of my way to avoid it. Rt 1NJ to Whole Foods or Wegmans. Jenkintown to Whole Foods. 611 to Wegmans. McCaffrey’s is ok. but runs short on expectations often too.

Acme recently lowered prices, and you can tell. I have frequented this place more recently. Staff is nice and usually pretty fast.

Good prices and offerings. A lot of the folks at the counter are miserable and rude. Some cashiers are the same way. I hate when I have to deal with the lady with dark curly hair. She is a miserable human being.

Another boring supermarket. They are mostly indistinguishable from each other. Only the signs out from let you know where you are. Lack of real competition makes Acme a dull boy. Same holds true for Giant and McCaffery’s. They would all be empty warehouses if Trader Joe’s, Whole Foods or Wegman’s came to town. Don’t we deserve better?

I used to really like Acme but lately I feel as though they have lowered in quality and increased their prices. They used to have great quality coffee(Starbucks and Seattle’s Best Coffee) now they have Bucks County Coffee. Don’t get me wrong I like Bucks County Coffee, but I prefer other coffee to it. I have also noticed a recent increase in price. Other stores in Newtown have much more affordable prices. I’d rather shop there…

Pros include the bread bakery, and in general the place looks clean, illuminated and spacious. A decent range of choices, as well. Non-bakery food is meh, what you might have found acceptable 20 years ago. Sushi, from an independent vendor, varies from okay to once when it had tough, smelly fish that we had to discard. We quit going to Acme when neighboring McCaffrey’s opened up. It’s not that the packaged merchandise or prices are much different, but rather that the prepared food is better. An even bigger improvement is in McCaffrey’s personnel, who are unfailingly friendly and helpful; at Acme, you don’t know whether you’ll get somebody worthwhile or something out of your worst nightmare. The two corporate cultures couldn’t be much different. That said, our fave is Wegman’s in Warrington — hands down, the best in the area especially when supplemented by Trader Joe’s in Abington/Princeton. Because all these something of a schlep, we usually wind up at McCaffrey’s — but, after 20 years, no longer at Acme.

As a former(high school student) employee who was abused by the low-life adult customer service reps who were just pissed off that they were lifers and we all moved on and went to college, I have some bitter thoughts about this place. Putting my high school job aside, though, this place is well stocked, has lots of good prepared food, a good floral department, a good bakery, etc. The salad bar was decent, too — my go-to on lunchbreak. I’m not going to say anything about the employees/check out experience because I am quite biased. However, some of the adult cashiers who I became friends with were really nice, pleasant, helpful people! The guys who worked in the deli were always really nice.

This Acme does it right. The store is clean and well-lit. The bakery, deli, and prepared food items are scrumptious; I am ADDICTED to their challah bread! An extensive selection of sushi is available, including some more uncommon rolls and a selection of condiments, dumplings, and the venerable seaweed salad. The natural products aisle is extensive and well-stocked, including not only foods and drinks but a large array of cleaning products and paper goods. There’s a big freezer case in that section, too. Definitely a reliable source for just about anything you need!

Beloved by Pennsylvanians the world over, this particular Acme(pronounced AK-A-ME in the Delaware Valley) has won me over. For years, I have suffered from the effects of sub-par grocery stores — see that shit hole Market Basket in Somerville, Massachusetts and the always happenin’ Shop ‘n Bag on Welsh Road in Northeast Philadelphia. In addition, the Giant Food stores in Washington, D.C. have taken a severe nosedive over the past decade. While I prefer smaller, independent markets, this Acme shows everyone what a big grocery store should be about, without being too fancy as to foul up retail prices. The aisles are wide, there’s a bank in the store and upon entering, you step into what could be best described as a gastronomic delight. The deli and pastry section is out of this world. They even have an antipasta bar with some of the best kalamata olives to be had in town. And, as the leader of the Cold Cuts Coalition on Facebook, I must inform you that the ready made hoagies win my seal of approval.
