Showcase SuperLux

Actually I went to the Showcase Woburn and their seats are exactly the same as the Lite. So other than slightly nicer décor and waiter service I don’t see any reason why anyone would want to go here.

I have been frequenting this SuperLux since it first opened. Let’s just say a $ 30 movie needs to be something SPECIAL! Well, this place is it!
I’ve tried the others nearby, including Dedham, and this one is by far the best. Although since I first started coming here, the in-​theater staff has sorta downgraded (hence the not-​so-​5-​stars) but it’s still good.
Highlight? Free popcorn, all you can eat (press your button on your armrest for more) and reclining (faux) leather seats… and they’ll even serve you from Davio’s menu next door! That’s amazing!
This is a MOVIE DATE location, at least that’s what I tell my friends. It’s a way to justify the $ 30 per person price tag.
Tip #1: order the cheesesteak rolls. If that’s what Davio’s is famous for, then you’d better try it while in the theater!
Tip #2: in for a penny, in for a pound. If you’re paying $ 25 for a cheaper front-​area seat, shell out the $ 5 more for the RSVP reclining seats. The price of popcorn alone is the difference in any movie theater!
Tip #3 AND MOST IMPORTANT: The bartender in the front lounge area of the theater makes the BEST drinks! If you get a refill mid-​movie, it’s made in the back staff food prep section, not at a bar… and totally has a different taste. Our bartender prior to the movie suggested asking your waiter to go to him for the drink refill, and our waiter was willing to oblige. HUGE difference!
PS — when will American movie theaters catch on to the rest of the world and serve caramel popcorn in theaters? Soooooooooo need it!

This is my favorite movie theater to go to. I love the big comfy recliner seats, and I love how you can get food delivered right to you! BUT the food here is meh. More than once, I’ve ordered an appitizer/​meal and it’s come cold.
My recommendation: get superlux seats (not lightlux) and only get a soft drink and popcorn. $ 5 of your ticket goes to food and drink, which covers your soft drink, and you get unlimited free popcorn! Since the tickets are so pricy, I try to go for long movies to get my money’s worth.

$ 30 for show ticket, popcorn and soda? Um, no thank you. I’ll get my own soda and popcorn at a regular theater so that I don’t have to wait for half-​way through the movie to get a straw and change.

When you first get in, there’s someone who will show you to your seat. The theater for SuperLux and Lux Lite are the same, the latter is seated in the first half of the theater near the front. They both get you a $ 5 voucher for food or drinks but I would honestly just go for the Super Lux if you’re going to come here. The reclining seats are a lot more comfortable and you can see the movie from a better distance. You get unlimited popcorn as well.
Service can be a bit slow. For Lite, you have to go up towards the exit to press the button or order through the server. For SuperLux there’s a button at the seat that you can press and they’ll come over. Sometimes it takes them a while to come over though.
I’ve only had drinks and dessert here. Dessert portions are big and come out quickly. Drinks were good.
It obviously gets pricy though, but it’s a good treat to come here every once in a while!

Love this theater… feels like entering an elite hotel lobby. Kudos to the Chef. This place has a chef — no short order cook here. Salmon was truly well prepared. Moist on the inside and crispy on the outside. Veggies on the side were so well seasoned, I hated to leave the few bites I couldn’t finish. I’ve been to top-​notch seafood restaurants that couldn’t do it that well.
Nice to recline, so nice the guy behind us was snoring… oh well, that happens at the regular theater, too. Server was very solicitous and took care of me right away when an item was missing from my order. Orders are delivered by separate staff — I told our guy my order was missing something, but I guess he didn’t care. Unlimited popcorn, yeah!

Food is good. But I can hear someone working with a power tool and it’s so loud that I can barely hear the opera. It’s like that person is drilling into my head… Can’t even sleep

I attended a show on Dec 5^th and I ordered food and beverage the total was $ 100.42. I checked my bank account and found a pre-​auth amount of $ 64.90. I never authorized this, never signed for it and am wonder why your theater took my money. I find it to be in bad form to take someone’s money from their account without letting the person know you have done so. Today is Dec 9^th and the amount is still out of my account as an outstanding debt. Please return what you have taken!

I liked there was no one under 21, which is a big problem when you have giddy teens going to movies like the Hunger Games. The screen size was great, and you could order your seats ahead of time so that you don’t have to wait in line to get good seats. The seats were also super comfortable. If you like to order (pricey) meals or snacks, a waiter will bring them to you.
However, the lighting ruined it for me. In order for there to be enough light for the waiters to serve, the lights are less dim than at most movie theaters. This made it hard to suspend disbelief as you could see everyone else in the theater, their food, and their recliners. I like to be immersed in the theater. It offers what it says it does, but it didn’t work for me.

My frustration with this place has much to do with the programming. For some bizarre reason they seem to make the most ridiculous decisions about what to show and not show. Recently they failed to open the Martian and Everest while running Black Mass on 3 of their 6 screens week after week. Everest opened here a week after it opened anywhere else. The Martian? Never shown here even though it was the #1 movie in the US at the time. Earlier this year they ran Paul Blart Mall cop 2 for a months while ignoring Begin Again and other openings. This for a $ 28 premium seat? Paul Blart Mall cop 2? What sort of programming decisions are going on here and who makes them? Arguably one of the nicest theaters in the US never mind New England, and they choose to run Paul Blart Mall Cop 2 for a month in a 6 screen premium price and service theater?

The lighting in the theater was too bright and the clanking of silverware and plates during a movie isn’t the best combination

Not to mention such a bourgeois name as Super Luxe lol.
Not going back until things seriously improve.

Once you go Superlux, you can never go to a regular movie theater again. Consider yourself warned!
The Chestnut Hill superlux is not your regular movie theater. It is Fancy (capital F intended). You can do Lux or Lux lite. Lux gets you a $ 5 voucher per ticket, super comfy reclining seats, a waiter on call throughout the movie, an ipad menu full of real food options. unlimited soft drinks, and unlimited popcorn. Lux lite is cheaper and it gets you a $ 5 voucher that you can use on food, drink, or popcorn.
The springrolls are very small in person and are never worth it. The other food is pretty good though. The truffle fries are great. Definitely get those (though you can get a side salad on the meals that come with fries). The turkey club, turkey burger, chicken tenders, and calamari are all pretty good, even for a movie theater.
The menu has a lot of fish on it which is weird because I think it would smell up the theater. Do you want to be that guy? Probably not.

I agree with most of the other one and two star reviews.
The food has been completely downgraded. I used to look forward to their delicious lobster pasta and other food items. Tonight, the Caesar salad was inedible. I literally took three bites and couldn’t finish my meal. I ordered the Smores martini and the chocolate covered marshmallow tasted so stale and gross that I almost spit it out. The quesedilla was OK. My husband’s French fries arrived cold.
Bathroom was neglected. No TP in some stalls. No paper towels at the sink.
Staff was good to us and allowed us to sit in empty seats.
Superluxe dissapointed us.

It’s indisputable that the physical amenities of this theater are great, and that the concept of over-​the-​top luxury seats for a Friday night movie is cool. The service at the seats themselves has also been good on the several occasions we’ve gone, although the food itself is not exactly Best of Boston. The problem is that the front end of the place is staffed with inexplicably rude people who seem to have nothing but contempt for their customers.
We recently bought tickets using the showcase app for an 830 pm showing of Minions. On arrival, my 11 year old daughter approached the ticket person, who looked past her at me, without any acknowledgement of her «hi,» and said to me «She can’t come in here.»
My «Pardon me?» was met with wordless pointing to a sign that explained that no one under 21 is admitted to Superlux seats (the ones at the rear of the theater) after 6pm. Obviously, Showcase is entitled to set whatever rules it likes for admittance (this is not a liquor license issue by the way, but a corporate decision according to later questions to staff). The fact that this same young girl is welcomed at Number 9 Park and Gramercy Tavern is arguably not on point. Neither, perhaps, is the fact that the Showcase app makes no mention of this fact during the purchase (see the screenshot — it may be on there somewhere, but I can’t find it when I go back, so it’s well hidden). Or that we were going to see MINIONS.
«Philip» followed up his pointing with «you gotta talk to them» and gestured to the main ticket desk. Enter Laudemera and her manager, who did not, to say the least, appreciate my amusement that an 11 year old was being excluded from the empty back half of a movie theater showing a kids movie. Glares. «All we got is second row, in Lux» Doesn’t make sense, Laudemera — she’s been here at night twice before. «No, we don’t show kids movies here» chimes in the manager.
Uh, wrong. We saw Despicable Me and Tomorrowland here. At night.

Um, wrong again. And accusing your customer of lying to you while he’s trying to spend $ 120 on four tickets and another paycheck on food is a wise PR move?
At this point the manager, weirdly, just wandered away. We agreed to the regular «lux» option and took our rather bewildered child in to sit in the front, leaving our treat-​night seats unoccupied. The staff might still have salvaged something of a win with a simple «we’re sorry — it does seem a bit weird in this case, but…» No such luck though — three people, lots of attitude, but no sorries.

Expensive but worth the splurge! No ticket lines (order online), awesome recliners, complementary popcorn, and your own server. I could get used to this! All kinds of drinks: draught beer, cocktails, margaritas, & Long Island iced teas! I am so relaxed right now at the theater. No annoying teenagers kicking your seat & texting. I recommend this experience 100%

I don’t want to see a movie anywhere but here. I have been here three times with my parents and have had a great time every time. If you’re looking for a relaxing atmosphere to watch a movie in, this is it.
The captain crunch chicken tenders are a must have.
If you are planning on eating and seeing a movie it is worth it to sit in the luxe level for $ 28, because you get unlimited free popcorn and a $ 5 credit per person to use towards whatever else you order.

Let me begin by saying I love Superlux theatres — the idea of being able to enjoy a good meal and nice cocktail while watching a feature film is brilliant.
Pros: The area is clean. The food and drinks are delicious. The wait-​staff inside the actual theatre itself are kind and helpful to newcomers to the «Lux Level» experience.
Cons: Now the reason why all the things above are overlooked and this received a 1 star rating. The employees who work at the front desk/​lobby area are extremely rude. On two separate occasions (in which I ended up leaving and not seeing a film), I have been ignored, had someone speak to me in a raised voice, been ridiculed, and laughed at. My sister and I were appalled and when this happened for a second time, we called it quits. Because of their lack of professionalism and willingness to help a customer who has a question or 2, I will not return to this location and recommend anyone considering this theatre, to drive an extra 20 minutes south to the Superlux Theatre at Legacy Place in Dedham.

Pros: Great picture and sound, comfortable seats, easy parking.
Cons: Absurd price of almost $ 30 a person, waiters are usually slow at getting orders/​food taken care of (not the bills though). The food is just average.
This place was created for people with money to get away from people not willing to spend their absurd rates for tickets.

Ain’t NOTHIN’ wrong with a movie theatre where you can LAY DOWN in a cushy lounger while eating free warm cookies & milk w/​a limitless supply of popcorn. ^_​^ Oh, and don’t worry if you run out, no need to go to concessions as you can just press a button and someone will come.
Why is every theatre not set up this way? :)
Ever since discovering the luxurious world of SuperLux cinemas, I am spoiled rotten and get bummed out whenever I do end up in a non-​SuperLux (or when I mistakenly experienced the «Lux Light» scenario as fellow Unilocaler Eunice mentions).
Yeah okay, it is expensive, and let’s admit, regular theaters have even gotten so damn expensive these days that a «movie night» can easily rack up to $ 100 if you have a (hungry) date, so I get that this place isn’t for everyone. That being said, if budget is an issue, it’s still totally worth coming if you’re in for a long and/​or highly anticipated movie or if it’s a special occasion!

Forking over $ 40 for two seats to a theatre seems a bit over the top, but forking over $ 56 seemed more than excessive, given that a night at the movies usually doesn’t cost ~a dinner. So that is why we opted for «Lux Light,» versus «Super Lux.»
Being in «Lux Light» felt a bit like being in steerage on the Titanic; not very glitzy but still potentially a lot of fun, if you know what you’re doing. Here’s what I think ‘general you’ should do: order a drink (especially worth it given you get a $ 5 credit from ordering off the menu — though I can’t say that the quality of anything on the menu is actually luxe, and you won’t get free unlimited popcorn as you would in first class); recline (manually, not electrically as you would in «Super Lux» — boo hoo); and make sure you seat yourself in the very last row of steerage, I mean, Light, because otherwise you’ll be craning your neck way too much to watch a movie. For $ 20 a pop, let’s make sure not to add more $$$ for a post-​movie massage, yeah?
I’m glad the movie we watched was worthwhile (The Imitation Game — swoon — Viva La Cumberbatch!), because otherwise I think I would’ve thought this place was all smoke and mirrors. The fancy lobby hotel bar-​ish area is cool (def not reminiscent of an AMC), as is the idea of watching while imbibing/​munching, but I wish the prices were a bit less arm-​and-​leg, especially given the seats weren’t 100% amazing (no footrest = just short of ideally comfortable) and the food and drink were more TGIFriday’s quality than Grill 23.
Still a fun little date night idea when you’ve got a bit o’ cash to burn!
