GULF Service Center

Very convenient on trip to Boston. Very nice. And across the street from whole foods if you want a healthy snack.

(Please note that this place is across from Whole Foods! Do not confuse this place with a different poorly reviewed Gulf in Newton). I have been bringing my very (very) old Corolla to Phil and Pete for years. They are the nicest humans (and twin brothers) you will ever encounter. They always do their absolute best to explain to me what’s going on with my car if there is a problem. They will take the time to draw a diagram to show me what’s going on! Do not let the appearance from the outside fool you. This place is a gem.

Phil and Pete are the absolute best of the best in the business. There are two interdependent factors: 1) They are expert mechanics. 2) They are honest. You can’t have one without the other, and these guys get a 10 out of 10 on both. And they are just great guys. I’m very fortunate to have discovered this place right in my own neighborhood and happy to be another 5-​star review for them… They really are THAT good and they deserve it. In addition to the service center/​garage, they fill your tank for you and have some of the best gas prices around.
One other note: do NOT confuse this place with Newton Centre Gulf on Beacon Street. That place is horrendous and must be avoided at all costs. Period. I say that because they stole property from my car while I was waiting for an inspection sticker — — and I had to call the police before they sheepishly decided to return it. I hate to cloud this review with that info but it’s important that you know the difference: Newtonville Gulf = A+. Newton Centre Gulf = F– (read the reviews for yourself… it’s painfully obvious).

This place doesn’t look like much but it is in a great location and they are only full service. They are quick, pleasant (even so much so that you are a little concerned it a joke :)). Their prices are comparable and they seem like some fantastic staff.

I just started driving after almost 10 years without a car (yay MBTA). Now with a car to care for, I am so, so lucky that I discovered Phil and Pete. They (and their whole team) are THE BEST. Honest, ethical, smart and very patient.
They were great when I took my car in after I hit a pothole this winter and busted a tire and a rim (it was a wicked big pothole). Service was efficient, price was fair, and they were able to send the cracked rim out for repair so I didn’t have to buy a new one!
I’ve also been coming here for inspections and oil changes. Pete and Phil are knowledgeable, patient, and always willing to walk me through any questions or concerns. I’ve learned a ton about car repair and maintenance since going there.
**Note: Pretty sure it’s now a GULF and not an Exxon station. Either way, it’s the one right across from Whole Foods, which is an awesome place to chill if you have to wait a bit.**

After the body shop finish my Ferrari f 430 they did all the maintenance! Very highly motivated team. Professional people great customer service! Thank you again! Great location to I had a great lunch cross the whole foods.

This place is awesome. I second another poster’s comment of being frustrated that you are on a first name basis with the mechanic (stupid 10 year old car). But at least it’s with honest people. Phil and Pete are genuine, family guys. They explain everything to you, and even draw pictures of your engine to help you understand what the issues are. Maybe because I’m a regular, they even give my diagnostic for free when I have a check engine light on (most mechanics charge you $ 50 – 75!, and that flipping machine isn’t that expensive… DO NOT PAY FOR THAT!!).
I only wish I found them earlier, but as long as I’m anywhere near Newton, they will always have my business.

These guys are as honest and nice as they come. Unfortunately, I’ve had to bring my car in quite a bit over the last few months, but they have taken excellent care of me and my car without breaking my bank. My car is on it’s last miles and they certainly take that into consideration by not doing anything more than is necessary to keep it running well.

This is by far, the best, most professional group of mechanics I have ever had. They take great care of your car, never overcharge, and explain what is going on with your car in such a way that even I can understand fully. I recommend this place highly, you will not regret it. I always leave there knowing that my car is in great hands.

Always excellent and friendly helpful service. They will explain in detail what is the matter, or what might be the matter, and what the options are. When they can save you money, they will. Unlike the place up the street, I never ever feel like I’m being soaked. I feel lucky to have this place nearby to get our cars serviced.

This is now a Gulf station. I got an estimate for $ 1000 from the dealer and took the car to this station for a 2^nd opinion. I walked out for $ 400…the guys were knowledgable about my older car, and I was very farily treated. Love this place and will be going back.

It can be frustrating when you are on a first name basis with the mechanics at your garage, because that means you are a semi-​frequent visitor. However, I am okay with that at Newtonville Gulf. I can’t give enough props to Phil and Pete, who are both incredibly nice, patient, informative, fair… you name it!
I have dropped off my car (or in an instance had it towed there) without warning and have had it fixed that day. Their prices are very fair, and they will walk you through exactly what they fixed and why, showing you the parts they removed and why it (or they) needed replacing. I trust their judgment 100%, and know that they will not add additional repairs and costs to my bill unless it is necessary. Honestly, how often do you drop off your car and tell them to «fix it if it needs to be done» and know they aren’t going to screw you over?!
Best mechanics. Ever. My only recommendation.

I think this place is a Gulf station now? At any rate, the same guys cleary still work there, and the same kind of service is provided.
I went this morning based on a great Unilocal recommendation, and everything mentioned in the other reviews proved absolutely true! These guys were so nice, did my inspection in 10 minutes, and sent me on my way. I will definitely make this my annual inspection stop now.

I love these guys! I work out of my car and need a reliable service station to keep me going. I have had nothing but great service from this station and use them for everything. They always make time for you even if it’s last minute: inspection, repair-​what ever. They don’t try to up sell you, and take the time to talk to you.
The older gentleman who usually has the desk, phones, and gas pumps is entirely nice, and always makes the short time you spend waiting entertaining.
Last time I was in, I needed a tire replaced before a road trip. There was a new dude working and he was trying to tell me that they couldn’t replace just one tire on the front end. He wanted me to buy 2 new tires (the other tire was only 3 months old and sold to me by my buddies in Newtonville). When he started his pitch the older gent (wish I could remember his name!) went and got one of the regular repair men who set the new guy straight. I got the one tire I needed in less than 15 minutes and was on my way for short money.

I second Rebecca’s review. These people are excellent, friendly, efficient and kind. They carefully explained how to add oil to my vehicle… something I should know, but was too embarrased to ask until then. I expected to take my entire lunch break for this inspection, but it only took 15 minutes, and the guy at the desk chatted me up the whole time. If you work in Newton Center, or even in Newton Corner, these people are very convenient– located right across from the Whole Foods. NOTE: The place is no longer an Exxon– It’s GULF.

These are the nicest guys on the planet. I’ve never had work done here, but I’ve had my car inspected every year since I’ve lived in Boston. I intentionally drive back because I want to give them the business.
As a note on the service, when I was in getting my car inspected this week, one of the guys was reviewing service with a customer and very patiently and thoroughly explaining the details and options. I was impressed!
