Where do I start? This place could be oh, so much better than it is with just a few minor adjustments. Service is excellent. We went on a Sunday, when they are open till 2PM. The place was just about full. The view out the windows is beautiful, with big, mature trees. The napkins are paper but feel luxurious. Though they have a nice menu of both traditional choices as well as options for the progressive palate, on Sunday they go with four boring choices: chicken fried steak, fried chicken, meatloaf(at a country club???), and ham. I tried the chicken fried steak, my first time with this dish. It came with a salad, green beans, and mashed potatoes(all the dishes did – same ‘ol, same ‘ol). First, the mashed potatoes were lumpy and bland. They and the«steak» were covered in white gravy, and I do not like all that gravy. They observed me scraping it off, so they brought me another serving of potatoes without – I appreciated this – they were trying. They also were prompt in bringing another refill of my soft drink(their soft drinks come out of cans so the glasses they use don’t appear full as a result). I requested bleu cheese salad dressing on the side, which turned out to be nothing but ranch with some blue cheese sprinkled over the top. :( The chicken fried steak was a huge disappointment though. There was so much breading, and so little meat, that I left the restaurant still wanting meat. THAT has never happened to me before. The price for any of these dishes was $ 10.95, and while it’s admirable that they are trying to keep prices low, they would do well to charge a little more and get some actual MEAT. I would gladly pay $ 15.95 for a thicker cut of meat. If they want to do «classics», they should offer a regular steak and regular pork chops and such. None of this cheap-cut-of-meat stuff. But to take diners to the next level and create excitement, they NEED to offer something for the adventurous sorts on Sunday. THAT seems to be a no-brainer.
