This place is great. Except the portion is small. I love the environment and and friendly staff. It is more like a place to hang out with friends but not a place you are looking when you are hungry.

This is by far my favorite Newton restaurant! And, possibly my favorite all-around Boston area restaurant. I have been here now about 10 times and it never disappoints. Everything I have has been pretty much perfect and the drinks are fantastic as well. My favorites… Pistachio chicken wings, beet salad and papas fritas. The bartenders are the best… don’t know what you want… they will mix up exactly what you are craving. Definitely check it out!

I think the food in this restaurant is interesting. They have ordinary ingredients but unusual flavor. For this part only, I think it’s good to try. But I don’t think it worth coming back. Crispy duck bowl — I like this dish the best. But I like the potatoes in this dish the most. They gave more potatoes than duck meat. So I’m confused whether it’s a duck dish or potato dish. Chilean pork milanesa — even though this dish was recommended, I think this dish is the least delicious. The pork was deep fried with some ham and cheese in the middle. The pork was not tender or juicy. I think the poached egg that came with the dish tasted the best. Scallop empanada — this dish was recommended, too. But I don’t like it that much. It’s like scallops wrapped with thick dough and then deep fried. The scallop tasted good, but the dough was too thick and I felt that the dough was even more than the scallop and the flavor of scallop was not as strong as the dough. Lobster fritters — this tasted good. You can eat chunks of lobster meat. But the sauce was a little too greasy and heavy for me. Other than that, I like it. So they have tables and bar. The waiters were nice. They have open kitchen so you can see how they prepare food. The atmosphere of the restaurant is good.

Food is great, service is awesome. But the front desk who did the seat assignment was horrible, ended up standing the whole time I drink, ate

Tried a bunch of tapas-first time here-definitely exceeded expectations! From the bread and butter, to the fried chicken, lobster, all really great and unique! Definitely looking forward to coming back here to try others.

Place is BOMB! So delicious. must try! The menu changes all the time. The Johnny cakes might be the most delicious thing I’ve ever eaten and for dessert– deep-fried brownies with caramel dipping sauce… Yeah!

Yummy drinks and yummy food in Newton Center. We liked this place. We ordered lamb meatballs, steak, cauliflower, and smoked fish pâté. All good. I wish we could’ve eaten more, everything on the menu looks great. We will be back.

I went to comedor with my boyfriend for date night. I’m a huge fan of small plates, and comedor is the perfect place for a unique and eclectic blend. The food was DELICIOUS, but what was even more awesome was the ambiance. The place is small, dimly lit, but very lively. Tables were full, but we were able to immediately sit at the bar. I’m happy we did, because that’s where all the magic happens! The chefs cook right behind the bar. Admittedly, I drooled the entire time while waiting for our food. They do give complimentary bread to start, so I didn’t drool for too long. :-) Overall, this is a cozy spot for an intimate date night.

Food: The mushrooms and lobster fritters were my favorite. The mushroom dish had so many flavors going on while also being very balanced. The lobster fritters were light and crispy on the outside and warm and gooey on the inside. They were topped off with some lobster salad, which I thought was a nice contrast. The cauliflower was also good – very tangy. I wasn’t a huge fan of the crispy duck bowl – the duck was a bit dry and the flavors were less interesting than those of the other dishes I had. For a drink I had the Newton Centre, which was a tasty take on an old fashioned. Service: Our waiter was polite and did a good job explaining the specials and other items on the menu. The food runners were also polite. The waiter could’ve checked on us a little more often. Ambience: Nice size. Nice design. Interesting art. A little on the loud side, but not too bad. I really like the open kitchen lay out. Takeaway: I thought the food was good enough that Comedor can get away with the somewhat small portion sizes. The waiter told us that the menu gets updated every 3 weeks, which makes me excited to come back.

Comedor is great! It’s a perfect size restaurant that was designed well with the open kitchen and long bar with plenty of seating. Service was good. The food here is spot on. Simple foods done really well. What more could you ask for? Lobster fritters had a very nice texture. lobster perfectly done, addition of asparagus was a nice touch. Roasted cauliflower, my favorite favors and ingredients in a bowl. The cauliflower and lentils were perfectly cooked and dressed. Nice and tangy with a bit of spice. Crispy piparras were my favorite. Crispy fried pickled peppers? Heck yes! I’d like that to garnish my next Bloody Mary. Ninos envueltos, hanger steak was cooked just right. Nice selection of mushrooms. Crispy quail; flavors were perfect. Beans were great. Quil itself was not very crispy, but still very good. Tempura fried brownies with dulce de leche. Pretty darn good. This was for two people and we didn’t leave hungry. Which isn’t always the case and many tapas places around the Boston area. For those who aren’t very adventurous with foods, this is a good way to begin expanding the palate. There is something for everyone on the menu. The food is well balanced and has great portion sizes. The service is good too. Very attentive but not overwhelming. Everything is fairly priced. Well worth the trip. Congratulations to the team at Comedor for best new restaurant! Job well done

I love Chile, and so visiting Comedor was a very fun treat. That said, given the price and value, it was a treat that likely won’t be repeated as often. My total meal cost $ 50 for a light brunch, and each plate really was tiny — not for hearty appetites! We ordered a variety of tapas: — S’mores french toast: I don’t see the Chilean reference for this dish, and it was a tiny piece of bread with a huge marshmallow and chocolate square. Could have been interesting to include some Peruvian chocolate of some sort and a much larger piece of toast — Arnold Palmer: mostly ice — ask for less ice? — Pumpkin pancakes: these were our favorite dish because it wasn’t so sweet! I wish they gave us four of these instead of two tiny pancakes — Breakfast burger: note to self, this is a MEAT burger. I thought it was an egg! They didn’t ask us how we wanted the meat cooked, so it was practically raw and I couldn’t eat it. And they gave us cilantro even though I asked for none. Yuck. And our waitress promised it to us on a bagel, but it came on a typical brioche. We may have ordered the breakfast bagel had we known. — Fries: not terrible, but nothing wowed us here I miss my trip to Chile where I ate such delicious and exotic fresh fruit juices as well as yummy Argentinian meats. For the prices and concept, I wish they’d dial up the fusion a bit more as well as offer larger portions. We may be back again to try dinner, but I’ll have to save up for that :)

I love this place! Not only does the bartender Eric remember my name and my drink(even if I only pop in 1ce a month). It has a modern classy tapas feel to but the food is high class ! The time they spend making everything just right and equal palette is amazing ! Great newton center addition!

Bryan, our server made great recommendations! The Ave-Palta, breakfast burger, and Smores French toast were hits at our table. I love blues music and the background music was a perfect backdrop to our dining experience. BA few times the servers came around with alternative options dim sum style, so that’s an option to be aware of.

Food was solid in general, but pricey for what it is. It’s Chilean-inspired cuisine that is pretty simple and fresh. This place is all about taking simple recipes and preparing them expertly with additional touches that push them over the edge. Nice, artsy ambience though a bit loud. Drinks were good. Newtown Centre was nice and boozy like a Manhattan. The Caipirinha was good too… strong and citrusy! To start we had the fries, which were fine, but nothing to write home about. Second, we had the broccoli and kale, which was recommended very strongly by our waitress. It was tasty with a perfect char and lemon finish, but not as mind blowing as we expected for $ 10. I wonder if they’d ever try cauliflower instead? Lobster fritters were perfectly fried, but overpriced for 4 small ones. The Niños Envueltos were incredible though. By far, the best thing we ordered. It’s a seared hangar steak wrapped around sautéed veggies. So yes, it’s the kind of place that if you received a bit more food per tapa or the prices were a bit lower you’d feel better about going to on a regular basis. Tapas places on Unilocal need to have a different pricing scale!

Really 4.5. The open kitchen is great — all-in-one island with gas stovetop, griddle, broiler, fryer, and oven. The décor in the rest of the dining room is only ok. Bar seats aren’t comfortable but they do have the hooks under the bar which are helpful for bags and coats. Food was very good: crispy piparras, crispy quail, lamb albondigas, squid tacos, octopus carpaccio, hake con choclo, and tempura fried brownies. Eric our server was excellent.

I had not been to Newton in awhile and heard about Comedor. Wanting to try something new I checked it out, and so glad I did! It was pretty much awesome, great atmosphere, bar space, food was excellent as were the drinks. The Newton Centre is an amazing Manhattan. Warm herbed rolls are served with an insanely delicious whipped butter infused with honey and sea salt. Bartender suggested baked stuffed mussels with fresh pico de gallo which smelled and tasted amazing. I also had the sopaipilla grilled cheese, gooey cheddar griddles on sweet potato bread with a pumpkin mustard, soo good! Also may have splurged on tempura fried brownie… Rich but also kind of light! Really delicious with their French press coffee and vanilla jalapeño ice cream. Great meal, great staff, great atmosphere!

Really nice décor and environment(if not a little noisy). Good beer/wine selection(warning: I’m not super picky) and I thought the menu was great. It could use a bit more meat entrée options. We had a brand new waiter who was not good at all but did tell us immediately that he was in his third day on the job so we cut him some slack. We’ll be back with, hopefully, a more seasoned waiter.

It was 50th birthday party and my extended adult family took me here and I truly enjoyed the experience. I do love a tapas and this was a Chilean take on tapas. The cocktails were extremely well executed and the $ 10 price while not cheap is pretty much on par for the area. I started with the strawberry basil margarita and moved onto another drink that my friend had made with bitters. When they say small plates, they mean it and if you are with a group you will need to get at least two of each dish. Since it was my birthday, I did not see the bill but I can just imagine it was pricey. We tried a lot of dishes so here goes: Pig ear Nachos — interesting texture and flavors but not my cup of tea Lamb Anticuchos — I do not enjoy lamb but I really liked this dish Spicy pistachio chicken wings — yes, definitely must try Hanger steak — very good and very interesting with strawberries added Beet Salad — wow, I thought this was the best and most flavor dish of the night Papas Fritas — this is basically french fries with cotija cheese. What is not to like about that? Roasted artichokes and mushrooms — Not my favorite vegetable but it was pretty good. We tried all the desserts — Tempura fried brownie, Pisatchio Ricotta cake, and the ice cream of the week(I forget the name but it was orange-y with a habanero finish). Of the three, I enjoyed the ricotta cake but it was small. I agree with some other reviews that it does have a feel like you have stepped into a different world and you will glad of it.

Visited Comedor during a visit to Boston for business. This place serves some great tapas! My friend and I ordered the beat salad, spicy chicken wings, and the burger. The best part was the dessert of deep friend brownies! Ohhhh man, that was some good dessert! I really enjoyed my dining experience at Comedor, and I hope to dine here again if/when I visit Boston again.

Great selection of delicious veggie centric dishes and fantastically crafted cocktails I’m a fan of tapas style meals, they’re a great opportunity to experience a wide variety of flavors, and those menus are a great demonstration of a chef’s ingenuity. In my large party, we ordered half of the dishes in the vegetarian selection. The beet salad was my highlight, great combo of natural sweetness and fresh cilantro and always delicious pistachio. The niños envueltos were a very close second, having very clean flavors and then a nice earthy depth from the subtle portobello slices. My only issue was the papas fritas, which were much too salty for my taste but pleased some others in my party. Also memorable were the breakfast empanadas. Didn’t venture into the dessert but I am very intrigued by the pistachio ricotta cake, so I will be back for that. While I only glossed over the wine list, I got a great riesling by the glass for my mum and I spotted another good riesling by the bottle… So thumbs up there. The cocktails, however, were excellent. Beautifully balanced and genuinely delectable, ordered the Bourbon+Cider(can’t remember if that’s the exact name) and the Love+Fernet(so woodsy and herbal and tasty). I’m finding that the décor of new restaurants is now uniformly: industrial with wood accents, I’m not complaining though. I really like the uncomplicated, open space and natural tones. Finally, hospitality was good, but I don’t think our server introduced himself. He was very attentive though, even as the place filled up.
