It comes to my attention that there is probably a reason for a whole fleet of Bön Me trucks and ‘brick and mortar’ locations throughout the greater Boston area. Finally, after months of hard work from the folks at Bön Me, the newest ‘brick and mortar’ location in Chestnut Hill is open, and after months of my own laziness(I never really felt like trekking into Boston for one of the original brick and mortar locations or hunting down one of the trucks) I finally got the sandwich that I have been craving. Bön Me has three main things: noodle/rice bowls, salads, and bon me sandwiches. I chose the sandwich that can come with several different proteins and marinates, some are permanently available and others that rotate. I chose the miso braised pork. I might be a total sucker for pickled daikon radish and carrots(I definitely am) but this was a fantastic bon me and a killer sandwich. There was just the right ratio of meat-to pickled vegetables-to spicy mayo. Speaking of which, initially my eyes did not read the huge sign in front of them saying«jalapeños available for any dish on request» and I was slightly dismayed — what kind of bon me doesn’t have jalapeños on it from the start? After a few bites, I realized that the flavor of the«spicy mayo» builds in intensity and I did not miss the jalapeños at all. Bön Me also has delicious basil limeade and spicy(good spicy) ginger lemonade. Although space in this new location is somewhat limited, I am so excited for this new location and cannot wait to go back. Pro-tips: 1) Ask to have your sandwich cut in half; 2) Eat the sandwich over a tray(provided) — the bread is so crusty it makes a mess.
