Smithfield’s Chicken & Bbq

We stopped at this Smithfields off of 40 on the way to the Coast. It was clean, comfortable, and service was very good. We each had the Pork Sandwich Combo (with slaw), fries and a drink and it really hit the spot and got us back on the road feeling fulfilled and ready for the rest of the trip. As someone else mentioned they have old Hollywood pics on the walls, lots of Ava Gardner and Elvis in our section. The music was 50’s classics. This is a really nice Smithfields location.

After living in Raleigh for 5 years and hearing about the wonderful SCNB I decided to check it out on the way back from the beach. I ordered the pulled pork sandwich combo, which came with fries and a drink. The pulled pork was delicious and served Eastern-​NC style. The bun was fresh, the serving size plentiful and pulled pork delicious. The fries needed some salt, but were great!
Definitely recommend for a quick stop on a road trip. If the restrooms were a bit cleaner I’d give it 5 stars, but overall a great quick serve dining experience.

I’m not big on BBQ but I love fried chicken. The chicken here is really greasy and half the size of it is the batter it was fried in (just too thick). The hush puppies are good, the tea is the best part. I prefer to go into the grove to Eddie’s Café.

Probably one of the best Smithfield visits I’ve had out of any location. The BBQ and fries were hot and fresh for 5pm. The restaurant was very clean and the staff was friendly.

Great quick stop right off 40. Tired of your basic fast food on a road trip, so found this on Unilocal.Super clean, great food and still got back on road quickly.
BBQ pork sandwich was great as well as the chicken.

Upscale fast food with fantastic service. Clean inside seating and workers come around and refill your drinks with a big smile. The BBQ pork is yummy! Fries were coveted by our whole table.

Ive eaten here on numerous occasions. Usually take out. Always has been good and friendly service.

Ate here on a recent road trip.
I HATE to give fast food 4 stars. It will kill me in the end.
But…
They’re fast.
Food was HOT and tasty.
They were courteous and polite!
So often you go into a fast food place and the people are like «Night of the Living Dead» and I hate that. Who wants to get food from such complacent people? (I always think in such places, they are complacent about other things).
But not Smithfields…
Smithfields is always very courteous and polite. The food is excellent for what you pay. One of my few fast food bright spots. Well done.

I’m vegetarian so I feel like I can’t give this place a fair shake. If I ate meat, Smithfield’s would be a solid five star spot. Still, there are few if any vegetables to speak of on the menu. I will say, however, that the banana pudding is awesome, the hushpuppies are delicious, the chicken smells great, and the customer service is impeccable.

Chicken is OK, but I’m embarrassed to have interstate travelers think that SCNB’s pork is actually North Carolina barbecue. They’re gassers, and it’s untouched by woodsmoke. In other words, it’s roast pork.

Good food fast service. surprisingly the fried chicken breast wasn’t super greasy. My husband loved the BBQ little too much vinegar for my taste but that’s why I didn’t order it.

Never liked NC BBQ until Smithfield’s. The coleslaw on top redeems the pulled pork. Great place to stop — clean and very friendly staff!

WTF, the place is a sorry excuse for it’s existence. The BBQ Chicken tasted disgusting. The interior design needs rework. Felt out of place.

The great — the BBQ chicken. They batter and fry the chicken and then coat generously (pour) a honey/​hot pepper sauce over the top. The chicken was outstanding!
The good — the pork BBQ. Above average Eastern style. The vinegar based activator has a generous amount of crushed red pepper which makes it better than most.
The average — cole slaw which is more like KFC than vingard based BBQ slaw and the southern style potato salad were good but not great.
Overall — place was incredibly clean, well lit, fast service… Many of the best «Q» joints are holes in the wall and this is a whole ‘nother level. Go get the BBQ chicken with slaw and a sweet tea and by all means get a jar of that sause to GO!

We ventured to this little place after driving an awful long way from Chas SC towards Washington DC. We saw signs and we followed them to some of the best bbq I’ve had in a while.
I had the sandwich combo. It’s more of the vinegar style that I hadn’t been familiar with (being from the Carolinas style myself). It was divine. The place was friendly, clean, inexpensive and the food was excellent. I’ve been dreaming about this bbq ever since I’ve been home. If it wasn’t 3 hours or more away, I’d have been back a few times by now. The sweet tea was awesome. The banana pudding was just Jell-​o brand Banana pudding as far as I could tell, but I appreciated that they sold it by the little cup full so that I could have a dessert with my meal.
The fries were great and the portions are big and filling. What else can I say about this great place? When you see the sign off I-​95, take the exit and eat here! You’ll be glad you did!
