William Gyles Guesthouse -Newport International Hostel

I stayed here recently. This is like staying in someone’s house.
We had a private room-​double bed with sparse furnishings and shared bathroom. The bed was really uncomfortable. The shared bathroom was fine-​it was always clean and we never waited for it.
Since the room was private, it wasn’t super cheap-​$ 110 per night. Fairly cheap for Newport.
The kitchen was nice. We bought breakfast food and put that in the fridge. Nice to be able to save moola that way.
One big downside-​no parking is included and street parking is annoying in the summer.

I love Merilee! She was on top of it at all times! Very detailed, interesting, direct, kind, business like and tactful! We stayed 2 nights and just loved how adorable the hostel was! It felt more like a b&b than a hostel. You can bring your own food and coo in the kitchen, great natural foods store in town and quite the experience in Newport. This is also a great place for IYRS potential students, it’s on the same block! We will be visiting again! Thank you!

merrillee was amazing! because it was raining and there were no cabs, she picked us up and drove us 3 separate times, even calling me later in the night to see if we needed a ride. I was really astounded by her energy and friendliness. She felt like an old friend immediately. The hostel is in a great location. the berkeley guesthouse (an annex that couples are more likely to stay in) is in a bit quieter of a location, sandwiched between the mansion district and the start of town. so you’ll have to walk 10 – 15 minutes to start arriving at the restaurants/​bars but it is an enjoyable walk past cool houses and cool parks. the guesthouse was nice and roomy with a firm bed and good vibes. if the price is right (relative to other hotels in the area), you will definitely be happy with these guys and the hostel.
