As a native Rhode Islander I’ve been coming to Newport for years… One of my favorite places has been Christies which is now 40 one north… it kills me to be here and I have given it many chances. 1– this is Newport not Miami. And if you want to be Miami hire better looking staff 2– the service is horrible! Takes forever and please don’t expect and apology for the delay 3 — the views are amazing but that does not give you license to be snobby… This is Rhode Island! Overall if you want an over the top snob scene and to be treated like a low class citizen then come here. O, and the peeky toe crab balls are frozen, reheated then sold… Just cuz you plate them in an oversized bowl doesn’t mean quality. And as I was leaving the hostess refused a couple with a stroller. The bar was half empty and you refuse a well to do couple with a sleeping baby?!

Probably the worst service I have ever encountered at the outside bar. Bartender completely ignored us, helped others that came after us, never acknowledged we where sitting g there, got up and left

Made our dinner reservation a month ago. There was no room inside so we were forced to sit outside. If it was a sunny warm day it would’ve been an enjoyable surprise, but it was dark, with a raw wind blowing — maybe they were saving electricity by not turning on the outside lights. It took 25 minutes to get our 2 glasses of wine after we ordered them; there was just 1 outside bartender and just 1 waitress. We refused to wait hours to get our meals based on what we had just read on Unilocal from other reviewers, so we left, in the dark rather than ordering entrees. Beautiful surroundings but so what! Go anyplace else! Note: this was originally posted under Forty 1 North, rather than The Grill At Forty 1 North.

I was sad because the place is so beautiful, I want to go there more, but it was disappointing. It is very pricey, which is fine with me, but I waited 20 minutes at an outdoor table with empty drinks. The place was empty, as it was a weekday, so we should not have been waiting in between rounds. It took me 10 minutes to get our first drink, and than we waited 20 for a refill at an empty restaurant. The food came an hour after we ordered it, and it was just decent and overpriced. Basically, if I am paying 15 dollars a drink, the service should be at least decent. And if I am going to wait an hour for expensive food, it better be top notch. None of which occurred.

It’s expensive but worth it! Perfect for a special occasion! This place is gorgeous and has a very nice upscale vibe. We went on a Tuesday night and arrived earlier than our scheduled reservation and they fit us right in. The drinks are pricey but nothing more than you would pay in a big city and with views like this you have to expect to pay a little more. What I was really impressed by was the food! We tried several things and my husband can’t stop talking about the scallops. My favorite was the ceviche type of appetizer we had! Service was also excellent and no hit of snobbery at all(which I was slightly concerned about when I was deciding what to wear from my casual weekend gear). I will absolutely be back! Gorgeous place and excellent food! Even the owners of our bed and breakfast couldn’t stop talking about their experience there just a week before while celebrating a birthday. Go for a splurge and try it… especially around sunset!

Yes… I’m a fan! A friend and I bar hopped around Newport. We popped into 3 other baws(New England talk) before landing at 41N. It’s situated down a breezeway so it was clearly a stubble upon for us. The drinks, food presentation and overall decorum set the look for upscale nightlife. We walked right from the table to the dance floor where DJ Derek the Prince kicked a variety of music that created a serious party atmosphere. WELOVEDIT… yeah, 41N is definitely a DO!

We came because of the view. Sitting outside, you’re right there, seemingly _in_the gorgeous, crystal blue water. After ogling fantastic boats, we wanted to linger in Newport a little longer so we decided to give the bar here a try. Though we were underdressed, service did not turn us away. We detected no snobbery. Prices were, no surprise, high, but the white, modern, Hamptons décor was relaxing. The white sangria was thoroughly well made. Hubby stuck with beer, mom stuck with wine. A nice place to rest your feet.

We just had my friends bachelorette party here. We arrived at 4pm and put in an order of baked bread, and 2 apps of Calamari… as well as drinks… The red sangria tastes like water with fruit chunks… the white sangria is much better. At 5pm, the calamari and bread were STILL not served. They never put it in. After i made a fuss they came out within 10 mins. I understand we are a table of 7, but we have all been in the restaurant business as workers before and are VERY easy going with service but my god it was SOSLOW. I ordered the lobster roll and was SO disappointed… for $ 24 i expect a beautiful nice big roll with lobster… ive gotten better lobster rolls at McDonalds for $ 7.99. i was crushed. It hurt because i recommended this place to the bride because of the stunning views. Thats the only thing that made us not walk out. With a $ 450 bill(drinks are $ 15 a piece!!) we thought the food and service would be much better :(Ive gone here numerous times and NEVER had an issue like this.

Let me first say that we sat outside and the location/atmosphere is fantastic. I would definitely come here again for a drink. The views of the water are great and there is definitely a swanky, fun vibe to the bar area. Sadly, that’s all this place is good for. I had the prawns for dinner and steamed spinach as a side. Neither were good. The shrimp were cooked well, but thumbs down on the flavor. The spinach had no taste at all. None. There was not even salt on the table to attempt to give it some flavor. The service was not good either. Definitely not worth the high prices at this restaurant.

Went with my wife for Christmas dinner this past week. We were in Newport for the Holidays and decided to make reservations here a couple of months back. We made the reservations for 530p on Xmas day, but in reality, didn’t need to as there were a family of 4 dining and some people at the bar. It was great to be in a good restaurant that was practically empty, with the pick of the tables over looking the water to then have a great Xmas dinner. The service was good and quick. We were seated right away with our coats being checked. We were quickly served water(often refilled) and got our wines within a few minutes of choosing. Our waiter was knowledgeable of his wines and also made good food recommendations for us to eat. For appetizer’s, my wife had the Cesar salad, which she enjoyed and I had the ½ dozen oysters which were good, but not accompanied by the best condiments. More vinegars over cocktail sauce etc, but thats a personal preference for me, not a comment on the product served. For dinner, my wife ordered the chicken, which was very good and I got the Tuna, which was some of the best fish I have had. I eat fish a lot and this was very memorable. Our dessert was excellent, with my wife having the apple crisp and I had the mint chocolate dessert. Both very tasty and finished off a very good dining experience. Also, coffee was nice and we relaxed for a good half an hour before calling for the bill. We then went to the bar and ordered a few more drinks to round off the experience. We were very happy and it will be remembered for life! The atmosphere in the restaurant was obviously quiet at the time we went in, but from around 7p, people came in for a their dinner and it picked up. The views, lighting and music were great. Everything was really relaxed and aimed at giving an upscale, yet laid back vibe. We got a table in the back corner that had amazing views of the bridge coming in to Newport, as well as the perfect water and full view of the restaurant. It was a great place to go on Xmas day and if we ever go back to Newport for that time of the year, we would go back to this restaurant.

Was a bit leery after reading other reviews but can’t agree. Lovely atmosphere, very relaxing yet upscale. Very nice bar/lounge area with gas fireplace and well placed sofas/tabled. A bit odd was that the hostess did not have menus at the station. I got a menu from a wedding. But it was kinda humorous. Server attire did not fit the décor– jeans and blue shirts. Still service was good, meal was quite good from restaurant week limited menu. Complaints about small portions just tell you that they are looking for all you can eat and not a full experience.

I went to 41 North to celebrate my friend’s birthday. Upon arrival, the valet attendant told me there were no parking spots; were only available for 41 North members. He told me of a parking lot nearby, which cost $ 30.00 to self-park, same as 41 North. I called the resturant informing we would be a bit late. Upon arrival, the hostess desk informed us that the«special» table that I requested was taken, so she took us to the outside deck where there was no light, so we had to wait until a table inside with a view was available. Once seated, it took 45 minutes to get drinks and bread. I complained to the manager; he apologized and made up for the«bad» experience with the resturant with complimentary wine and appetizer, and birthday cake.

Meh– Parking is not worth the 30 $ when 25ft down the road there is parking for 15 $… we’ll service started out by loosing the reservation which would have been fine if it wasn’t our anniversary(which made me look stupid in front of my wife) Once we finally sat, it was like a game of who’s who? Who the waiter who’s going to take out order, who even works here. After 20 min of waiting our order was finally taken. We started off with calamari which was good if we wanted three pieces on a plate. Now the main course was good, we had the Surf and Turf which was a filet, lobster and king crap on mashed potatoes and garlic asparagus. Main course was cooked well. Nothing too extraordinary but the food was good. However for 65 $ I would have added a little more food to the main dish it looked a bit cheap.

Was only here for a short time but I was in love with this place! A local we had met earlier in the day took my friend and I here because of the breathtaking views of the harbor. He was friends with the waiter at the front door so getting in wasn’t an issue. Plus we got a personal introduction to him. Our local friend was also friends with one of the bartenders there so he specially made our drinks(shout out to Jose)! I thought the white theme they had going on was absolutely beautiful and timelessly classic. Everything looked so gorgeous as the sun set on a beautiful Newport day. I definitely will be coming back here if I ever make a trip back to Newport!

I will never be going back here. Let me start by saying the staff, especially our waitress Emily were all amazing. My boyfriend and I came here for his birthday dinner, and apparently its«against the brand to sing happy birthday,» but they did it anyway, about 10 of them came singing over to the table, it was great. However, you definitely do not get what you pay for. Their portions are the tiniest I’ve ever seen, and I live in NY and we have some pretty ridiculous portions here. But what makes it even worse, is they have higher that NY prices, and tinier portions. The food itself was good, I ordered the rack of lamb($ 45) and got 2 little lamb chops… ANDNOTHINGELSE!!! Thats it! No side, no veggies, salad… nothing! I couldn’t believe it. My boyfriend got the surf n turf($ 56). The filet minot was delicious, he got ONE shrimp… ONE!!! HALF a lobster tail, minute amount of crab and about 3 giant scoops of mashed potatoes. I couldn’t believe it. They have a lot of nerve charing that amount of money for the lack of food they serve. For 2 apps, 2 entrees, 2 desserts, and a bottle of wine our bill was $ 275 before tip

Have you ever had a restaurant comp you $ 179.00 without asking? Last night was unique. This is a beautiful restaurant, a part of a Marina and hotel with super waterfront views. We arrived at 8:15 and were promptly seated. Drinks came with a reasonable wait, food was another story. The water served was not drinkable, with a strong chlorine smell and taste. When we asked, the waitress brought some filtered water that was okay. The food… there was no food! Food took until 10:00 to arrive, first weird salads and next entrees. My wife ordered roasted chicken. Her portion for $ 30.00 was tiny, a drumstick and small thigh, somehow no breast made it to her plate. Throughout the night our waitress apologized many times and a gentleman came by with his apologies a few times. They were nice and brought us a round of Patron(6 drinks that run $ 90.00) and took two entrees off of our bill without a request from us. The discount was $ 179.00 from a bill of about $ 400.00. Just imagine how bad they must have thought they did to reduce our bill by so much! Thanks for the discount but even for free, it was a such a bad meal. Food was not up to par and the wait ridiculous. I hope that changes will make this beautiful spot worth the cost someday.

We, ll we thought we would give it another chance since we are staying in the marina which is still great. I can’t report anything good about the restaurant. Food was ok, everything ala carte. The service was worse than ever. No one seems to be in charge; seems like a bunch of high school kids trying to pretend to wait on customers more interested in conversing with each other more than waiting on customers. 55 minutes to serve a course, no bread, no water refill, misplaced our check, couldn’t find our credit cards, and the restaurant was less than half full! We complained to a brash waiter who suggested we start over and re order dinner! What a shame for what could be a great restaurant with a good setting.

We went as 2 couples last week for restaurant week. First they charge to park in the lot $ 10 off season but they valet so when you leave you also feel obliged to give the valet a tip to basically walk 20 feet and bring your car to the front door. The place itself is stunning & beautiful to look at. The food a different story. The portions were not just small but extremely small. The steak was tasty enough but maybe 5 bites. My husband got the pork tenderloin. Again good favors but literally 3 small medallions the size of quarters and the Brussels sprouts were the leaves only. On top of that, the martinis were 16.00 each. I know the place is high end but a little too much. Final straw was the cup of tea I ordered to have with dessert — $ 5.50!!! For tea? Probably a cool place to go in season, have drink and enjoy the pricey view.

Grill at 41 North has always been locally renowned, but now it has to live up to the national reputation put forth on the TODAY show. They are riding the wave of popularity. While we went here expecting to have a very romantic waterfront dinner, we also had to contend with bachelorette party central. The service was very good and the food was very good. A big drawback was that they charge for soda by the glass. It was mostly ice. The parking is also $ 20, but you can park for $ 10 or $ 15 across the street and easily walk. It’s just an expensive dinner all around.
