First time diner on November 23, 2015. After a long day of moving into our home, we ventured out, late, planning to eat somewhere other than Lago. By the time we got to Lago, the kitchen was closed… but the staff made us feel welcome and prepared a wonderful meal for us without hesitation. The sense of welcome and no fuss attitude, plus the delicious food make Lago a top choice for this family.

Would give it 5 stars as good is fabulous. But my son complained the chairs were not comfortable, so we rate it 4 stars. Drinks and food great– food is so fresh. Takes a little long to come out– but worth it!

We had a very nice, light dinner at Lago early Saturday evening, 3÷21÷15. We tried the mussels, the Mediterranean salad, and a goat cheese and arugula pizza. Chased with a draught beer. Good food, nice atmosphere, and not too expensive. Definitely worth a return visit.

Had I commented the last time we visited I would have given the place 4 stars, but since 3.5 isn’t available, I’ll have to go with 3, since it’s the 3rd time we’ve been there. The good. Lobster Mac and Cheese was better than expected. Not a baked oily mess. It was enjoyable. My wife loves the martinis, which appear to be consistent. The bad: Carbonara which was far from consistent. Had it last time and it was perfect. This time someone decided making black pepper the main ingredient. Customers like consistency, so based on this, we’ll never order it again. Caesar salad. Would it be so difficult to cut it up? Serving lettuce in its natural form is just a pain. I wanted to send it back and have it tossed in a blender. Overall for the area it’s a decent place. There’s no Italian competition and for the most part the food is good. Just don’t expect to tell your friends about a great find.

The best restaurant in vermont. Kind of random that its in newport, but nevertheless it is the the type of place that would hold it s own even in a big city. Great chicken dishes, lasagna, salads, wine etc. etc.

We have eaten here for years and we have always loved the Goat cheese and Arugula pizza. In the last couple years the chef added Duck Confit which is actually one of the best duck dishes I have ever had!!! The portions are generous. One of the best restaurants in Northern Vermont.

My apologies to the chef for 3 *. The cinghiale & the pappardelle were excellent– 5*. Since we were a large group we split into two larger than normal tables. While the other table consisted of the late arrivals who came after 7pm, they were served first and finished their meals before we received our entrees about 8:45pm. Ashley was an exceptionally slow waitress; a disgrace to wait staffers. Waited so long I didn’t have time for after dinner coffee.

Used to be excellent, then all the good dishes were taken off the menu and replaced by overpriced pasta dishes and daily specials that are overpriced and haven’t changed in years. We keep watching the menu on the internet to see if it changes… Chef Richardi is so talented it is too bad his talents are being wasted on an all pasta menu.

Nice cool little joint on main street Newport. Chill joint, had a baked gnocchi dish that was pretty good. Manhattan was good too. The waitress/bartender gave me some feeble excuse for not being able to turn off the Red Sox and put on the US men’s soccer match WC qualifier on the bar TV. She mumbled some nonsense about the owner not wanting it off, though, the owner wasn’t at the bar and no one around the bar was watching TV at all. I thought that was BS, she just wanted to watch it, and, she is a nobody. Ya feel me?

After living in the area for almost 2 years we finally decided to try Lago’s for their thin crust pizza. wow, what were we waiting for! Absolute yummy flavor, perfectly laid out so you got all the toppings in every bite, thin and crispy crust without being like a cracker, finished it for breakfast this morning with a smile! Also had the wedge salad and the ceaser, both perfectly made and bursting with flavor… we will be back! Oh yea, awesome service as well!

Year in and Year outLago maintains very high standards of food, service and ambience-the best in the North Country and the one bright dinner spot on main street-or in Newport for that matter– the new belvidere has possibilities and should add to dinner choices-the East side remains popular with Quebec crowd but chef can’t touch Frank at Lagos.

We eat here 3 – 4 times per month and always have a great meal. Chef Frank Richardi does great authentic Italian food here in Newport since 2001. His house made pastas, always fresh fish, and great cuts of meat never leave you hungry or wanting more. The several cozy dining rooms and great bar all give you a view to the central open kitchen where you can see Frank and Jon do their magic. Service is excellent, prices reasonable. Don’t expect chicken parm here. The food and restaurant is way classier than that. Veal medallions with pappardelle pasta, rack of lamb, Bolognese, Fruiti di mare are the dishes you’ll find and enjoy. Great wine selection as well!

We’ve been here 3 times and only liked the first time dining here. Three visits and 3 different chefs means 3 different dining experiences. Unfortunately, each successive dining experience was worse than the previous. This is a nice looking Italian restaurant on Newport’s Main Street. The first time I went there, a female chef was running the kitchen and the food was excellent. Since she left the food quality has gone downhill. I measure Italian joints by the quality of their chicken Parmesan — a classic Italian dish. My first experience here was great — the dish was hot, seasoned well and the portions were big. The next 2 times, however, the dish was smaller, the sauce seemed off and watery and the quality of everything(including service) diminished. Overall, I would not recommend this place unless you are really jonesing for Italian food in Newport. Instead I would recommend going to the East Side restaurant less than 1 mile away because they have good pasta dishes at better prices.
