My wife and I went this past weekend for an afternoon drink and ending up canceling our reservations at another restaurant so we could come back to Fluke for dinner The food was excellent and the staff was very pleasant and accommodating. Con: The bartender’s 7 friends were at the bar drinking and most of the time when we needed something he was too busy high-fiving his friends and talking about moving to CA rather than waiting on us and the other patrons. It would have been a better experience if the service was a little more prompt. Again, everyone was really nice and accommodating(even the bartender) but I hate having to flag down a bartender.

Overall I love this place. My second time coming. We came in for restaurant week. Here is the play by play. Hostess promptly greeted me and sat my family. Got the same table as before. Great views! Waitress was friendly and efficient. Took our order. Bread they serve is really great. My kids prefer warm rolls so they would say it wasn’t great but for my palate the bread was really great. We ordered fried oyster fluke ceviche for appetizer and tuna steak pork belly for main entrees. Appetizer was great. I really liked the fluke ceviche. Fried oysters were good. But anything fried is good so not usually what I order. Tuna was awesome. I can’t believe how much of it they give you. The greens were very good as they had the perfect amount of butter and salt. So a nooses were properly cooked. Kids ordered a steak. It was so so. I wouldn’t order steak here. Stick with sea food. Pork belly is always good. Can’t go wrong with bacon. Dessert was penna cotta and warm chocolate bread pudding. My child absolutely killed the pen a cotta She was licking the cup it was so good. So everything was good but here are the three dings I would give. Forgot my coffee and it ended up being too late for me to drink it. The owner/manager visited every table but ours. Was he scared of me? Did i have body odor? I don’t know. But it was odd. Not a real kid friendly restaurant but that is okay as my kids did okay inside. Even with the dings I would give it five stars and will definitely go again. Btw great place for a date!

Outstanding ambiance and great staff. Definitely come here for an enjoyable meal and drinks looking out over the Newport Harbor. The only downside is they are open limited hours when its not summer. Prices are a bit high but mostly worth it.

Spectacular view, with a heavy pour on the wine. We had come in after spending the day at the Bowen’s Warf Seafood Festival to have a nice dinner. We made a reservation online, as we assumed with the large crowds that restaurants would be busy. The restaurant was seemingly dead when we arrived. I ordered the rabbit orecchiette pasta and my fiancé ordered the lobster gnocchi. The flavor of my dish was pretty tasty and I enjoyed it, despite the few rabbit bones I found in the sauce(I am a big fan of bunnies so that was a bit off putting for me). My fiancé’s dish was only okay in my opinion. The pasta they use is definitely not homemade — the gnocchi was not pillow-like as it should be, much too firm! I think our waitress came to our table a whopping 3 times during the evening. When we ordered, when our food came and when we paid. Not that I want the server to be annoying, but checking in at least once I think is necessary, especially to check on drinks. It is expected for restaurants in that area to be a bit over-priced, but at least worth it. This place was definitely over-priced and doesn’t leave me craving to come back for more.

Very nice place, nice, ambience, friendly staff who does the job as it should be done. Appetizers were great as well as the cocktail list. If you like juice you must try the # fluke sunset. One of the better places in Newport.

Excellent food in a great location. My husband and I were in town just for one night and saw the great ratings here, so we decided to try it. The server was kind, the wine selection was better than expected(try the Sangiovese), and the food was great. We shared a cheese plate, and then I had the rabbit orecchiette(delicious, although the sauce could have been a bit thicker), and my husband had the gazpacho and the foie gras ravioli(both great per his comments). The kitchen was a bit backed up from a large party, but the management and our server did what they could to mitigate the situation. Overall, it was a pleasant atmosphere and a lovely meal.

I cannot say enough about this restaurant. Service is excellent food is delicious and the views are some of the best in Newport. A hidden gem my husband and I visit each year we come to Newport. Last night I realized I’ve never written a review on this place and needed to. I wanted their tuna but prepared a little differently. The owner came right over and offered his opinion and spoke with the chef and they created a dish just for me. I was so pleased. The waitstaff is attentive, food as always is amazing and I love coming to this place. They really love their customers and value them and it shows. The drink menu is well thought out and here is always something unique to try… the lemon verbana drink is my favorite ;) Visit the third floor for a spectacular view and a great cocktail ;)

What a disappointment! I recommend staying away from this restaurant. While the ambiance is nice and the staff is pleasant, overall this place was a waste of time as well as money. We walked out hungry… The«5» almond stuffed bacon wrapped dates were delicious, and the potato bacon croquettes appetizers were good. The two tapas plates left much to be desired — shrimp filled wontons with soy sauce were mostly filled with air and the roasted shrimp were tasteless, except for dipping them in the wonton’s soy sauce. The lobster gnocchi with corn consisted basically a bowlful of corn, two forkfuls of lobster, and very few tasteless gnocchi all for the bargain price of $ 34. My cocktail was refreshing and tasty however there was little alcohol in it. I would like to say the service was good. I have a hard time doing that when after asking about the specials we were told there’s a new menu each day so the entire menu is a special(yet people are talking about the same dishes on this app and posted the same exact menu) and that the gnocchi dish would have a lobster tail in it. We had more lobster in the lobster macaroni and cheese dish we ordered at Benjamin’s across the street!

Good customer service but I wasn’t too happy with my food :( Too pricy for no reason. No substitution… They won’t allow you to «alter» their menu so you end up eating something you don’t like !!! I wasn’t crazy about my food .My chicken was so bland & flavorless :/I would not go back to this place.

Snuck away to Newport for a rare child-free weekend with my BF. He found Fluke online and had made a lunch reservation for the Saturday we were to be there. Unfortunately, they decided that they weren’t going to be open for lunches any longer so called us to tell us they’d have to cancel our reservation. When we asked for recommendations, they not only gave us one, they went ahead and booked the reservation for us! Based on that and reviews here on Unilocal,we decided to try Fluke for dinner on Friday night. What a treat. Instead of having one meal and some apps, we opted for a number of appetizers and small plates including almond stuffed dates wrapped in bacon(delicious bite-sized morsels), potato bacon croquettes(delicious because well potato… and bacon), argula salad with parmesan, garlic shrimp, vegetable tart and crab cakes. To drink, my BF ordered the Ocean Drive(a refreshing gin, lime, cucumber and mint cocktail) and I had the Fire Dancer(a tequila cocktail). Truly, we enjoyed everything we had. The décor is simple and classic, not at all fussy, which I appreciate — it doesn’t scream BEACH! The waitstaff was attentive, efficient and warm. The restaurant got busy while we were there but it never got too loud or too crowded. We enjoyed being able to watch the comings and goings on Bannister’s Wharf without hearing it. Once the owner recognized that we were the couple who had their lunch cancelled, she very graciously, and unnecessarily, offered us dessert(Banana & Dark Chocolate Brioche Bread Pudding) and an after-dinner drink upstairs in the bar area. I will be back the next time I’m in Newport and I’d highly recommend it to anyone visiting.

Never going back. They have a strict policy of «No substitutions», even on a Monday night, when it is slow, because someone there is a Prima Donna. Considering that their entrees are pricey, and each comes with about 3 things other than the meat or fish, you’re bound to end up with something you don’t like on your plate. Too bad. I’m not going back, so I won’t ever have this problem. Even going this once was a fluke, considering I’ve never heard anyone recommend it. Surprised they are still here, considering that there are 8 restaurants within 300 yards that are better. Chicken was above average, but nothing special, portions are small, and the appetizers are really small. I did give it an additional star because the customer service of the hostesses, bartenders and wait staff is great. They should form a coup and get rid of the chef staff, management, and owner.

I plan my trips and vacations around restaurants and eating. Fluke was definitely my favorite spot in all of Newport on a recent visit(and I quite liked a few other places!). The restaurant is much bigger than I thought it would be based on the entrance. Once you get upstairs though you are met with a lovely dining room. The space is very airy and open feeling. We went in the evening, but I’m sure at lunchtime it gets a lot of light from all of the windows. Most importantly, everything we ate and drank was great. Instead of ordering entrees, we opted to split several of the small plates and appetizers: Almond filled bacon wrapped dates – good god these were so good. On the sweet side, but a great little starter. You get 5 of them and they’re on the larger side. Fluke crudo – so fresh tasting and the jalapenos added a nice spice. Shrimp wonton – I liked these, but in retrospect would have been happy to order something else in place of them. My husband, on the other hand, loved them, especially the soy ginger sauce. Fried oysters – 5 on a plate. Perfectly fried with a great red chili mayo sauce. I also liked the clever plating: they were served on salt made to look like ice. Tuna tartare – O.M.G. my favorite dish. I’m a big fan of tartares to begin with and this one did not disappoint. Honestly, I could have happily ordered 2 as my individual entrees and been satisfied with the meal. The wasabi cream was delicious.(Apparently I am really big on sauces.) Dark and stormy – my husband was the dd so I ordered a dark and stormy(because I hadn’t yet anywhere and it was our last night in the area). The drink was really good and reallllyyy strong. It didn’t taste strong, but trust me, it was. All of the staff were very friendly. Our server came by often enough without hovering. She was also great at honestly recommending dishes she liked and not trying to get us to order more than we really needed, which I always appreciate. Parking should be a little hard to come by, but we got extremely lucky. About a block or two away, someone was pulling out of a metered spot that we were able to snag. Our reservation was at 9 after which point, metered parking was free.

I cannot think of a better place in Newport to grab a bite of dinner after a long day on your yacht!!! If you are a tourist and have a few pesky Benjamins left in your wallet the night before you head home and back to reality, Fluke can take those off your hands!!! Okay, for real, the breakdown of my experience at Fluke: Food: 5 solid stars. Quality was there, presentation was there. The Lobster dish: Homemade ricotta gnocchi was yummy, lobster was okay, fresh corn was a nice touch, the broth was tasty… Husband had the scallops and thought they were wonderful… we shared the bacon wrapped dates and they were orgasmic! I enjoyed the banana bread pudding, hubby did not… Service: A perfect 5 stars! Our waitress was delightful as was the hostess! Ambiance: Lovely! Value: This is where I am knocking the two stars — when I spend $ 150 for dinner(minus tax and tip) for two people, I expect to have a full belly and a smile on my face… Fluke let me down here. Yes, the food was yummy but the price/portion ratio was way off… yeah, I get that lobster is expensive… but when I can get twice as much lobster on a $ 20 lobster roll, $ 34 for your lobster dish just seems super expensive(and the lobster roll lobster was tastier…)…I am not really a big person and I didn’t leave satisfied… even with dessert :-(*sad face* Bottom Line: If you’ve got a trust fund or are just flat out wealthy(and don’t have much of an appetite), go to Fluke often! Otherwise, go once, enjoy, grab a lobster roll on the way home and check Fluke off your list of Newport staples.

Excellent restaurant! The service here is very good! It’s a quaint restaurant with an variety of great meals to choose from! Everything I had from the cheese platter, sauteed lobster with narragansett ricotta gnocchi, olives and Marcona olives, fried oysters and french fries with roasted garlic aioli was delicious! The plate presentations were beautiful as well!

Came here with my wife for a drink and to duck out of the snow for a bit. The ambiance is very nice — we passed through a curtain to get in and were greeted by a modern looking restaurant that seems perfect for a date or a small group of friends. We walked up a flight of stairs for a nice view of the water and the bar. The wine choices were good and so were the mixed drink options. We got the almond filled bacon wrapped dates and they were phenomenal, the drinks were great too, and the view couldn’t be beat. We’ll come back for dinner next time we’re in the area. It’s centrally located if you feel like popping in and then stumbling down the road to another watering hole as you continue your journey through Newport.

Very modern and sleek restaurant located on Thames street by the water. Also a very unique set up as you have to walk up a flight of steps to get to the main floor of the restaurant. In total there are three floors. They have a great champagne and wine menu, so this makes it a great place to come for both dinner and drinks. The main floor seating has an open set up, yet it’s not too big. The window seats are definitely the best bet as you’ll have a great view of the docs and walkway outside. I started things off with some sparking rose and an order of steamed mussels which were made with chorizo secco. I’ve definitely had steamed mussels better at other places, but it was enjoyable and they give you an abundance of mussels. I then had the seared scallops which were covered in a chili and lime glaze. This dish was delicious, especially the glaze. It gave the scallops a sweet taste which made the dish very unique. It was great. I enjoyed this place. Definitely a great option if you want to have some great drinks with your meal and potentially make a night of it.

Had my sister’s engagement dinner here and while the food was amazing the service could have been better. The party size was 25 people and the overall table set up was weirdly arranged(2 round tables and 3 separate square tables so we asked them to combine at least 2 of the square tables). We had a pre-selected menu($ 60 pp). For the appetizers they literally provided 1 type per person which at the time felt a little insufficient but by the end of the night everyone was pleasantly full. Overall, great experience… I would give the food 4.5 stars and the service 3 thus the rating of 4(if there was an option to give 3.5 I prob would have selected that). What I had:(1) almond filled bacon wrapped dates: tasty,(1) braised chicken empanada: good but wished I could have had two; lobster bisque: amazing; sea bass: cooked to perfection; hazelnut milk chocolate panna cotta: highlight of the night. I tried my friend’s hanger steak frites and that was pretty good. My husband had the crispy wellfleet oysters and they were delicious. I tried the goat cheesecake and wasn’t a fan(I’m glad I didn’t order it)

«Like a Pig in a Dress.» Cute place. Pricey… which would be ok if the food was fantastic. But it’s not, if this place was smack in the middle of Manhattan it would not survive. Food is underseasoned, all in all not impressed. The best food in Newport were the hole in the wall local spots that really wowed us. The food was cheaper and tastier.
