EMERGENCYROOM— Most recent experience was 2÷26÷16. I began to have bad chest, neck and back pain while at work. I work literally a stones throw from another hospital in Newport News but I prefer the care of RRMC. A kind coworker took me all the way there at 5pm rush hour traffic down Jefferson. The ED was full for a Friday night, a lot of people. I was registered within 10 minutes and had an EKG within 15. I waited another 90 minutes before being called back into a room. I did not mind the wait; my EKG was shown to a doctor and was normal or they would have taken me back prior. After waiting 20 minutes after my EKG I triaged myself and came to the conclusion that I had sprained something either my back or neck; cardiac issues were ruled out therefore I understand why the wait was 90 minutes. I was seen by PA Norman and he was a bit rough with me when trying to figure out what was wrong. I was in the back about an hour before I was discharged. Normal and Dr. Hathorn came to the conclusion that I had a cervical sprain and gave me prescriptions for Aleve and a muscle relaxer. The PA had a pain like mine before and gave me hints on how to make myself feel better. I mostly appreciate that they didn’t try to run a billion tests to charge to my insurance(xrays, etc) after cardiac was ruled out. My pockets appreciate that 10/30/2015 Good care. had pretty bad chest pain and other symptoms that looked like a heart attack. I was brought back right away(within 3 minutes) to get hooked up to a small ECG monitor for a quick read and then brought to a real room for monitoring. From the front desk to the resident doctor and the two nurses I had the experience was as pleasant as an ED visit can be. I was getting a chest X-RAY within 20 minutes of being there. The tech that did my blood draw and IV site was really great, she put the catheter while the doctor was speaking to me and honestly I didn’t even notice any sensation or pain while she was taking the blood and bandaging me. The resident doctor was very nice and seemed genuinely concerned about my symptoms, he never once made me feel like I was ‘faking’ anything or being over dramatic. I actually fell asleep for a bit and the oncoming nurse was very sweet about waking me up to give test results and take my IV catheter out. It may be because I went in at 0520am but the service was immaculate and the rooms were large, waiting room was clean and large. it was a totally different experience than the hospital I usually go to if I have an emergency(Norfolk General and Obici)

Love this hospital and the new renovation is awesome! After being informed that she would have to wait over 3 hours to be seen. My daughter suggested we go to Riverside. She was seen in 39 minute. While she and my wife were in the back, I waited in a state of the art waiting room. It had TV monitors, WI-FI a cool fish aquarium and some very comfortable seats to sit in. It was late so I took a nap, when I woke up, I enjoyed some sweet ESPN highlights in HD! I didn’t wanna leave. My wife and daughter had nothing but good things to say about the staff in the back, had to wait a little bit for the pharmacy but that was OK with me because I got to chill in the lounge longer. I really enjoyed that. Not looking for going back for the nature of a hospital, but if I do. I’m going to Riverside!
