I never write reviews, but I’ve had both Pat’s and Geno’s (which both are overpriced crap in my opinion) and cheesesteaks in CA which are better than those two places, but Rick’s is by far the BEST! The steak is juicy and flavorful and the prices and amount of food you get is awesome. My husband and I shared the large cheesesteak with fried onions and provolone and a small side of jalapeño cheese fries and were stuffed afterwards! Would definitely recommend and go back when we’re in the area. I’m all about the food so décor, ambience and all that stuff doesn’t matter to me as long as the food is great and doesn’t take forever, I’ll go to a hole in the wall place, but Rick’s seems like a cozy, family orientated place. Probably not great for parties larger than 4, just order ahead and pick it up.

Fan f’n tastic I love this place my friend just told me he brought his son there he took one bite got up and hugged his dad and said this is good dada. Best philly steak in the area for sure

Any time I want the best philly steak in Va the only place to go to is RICK’s amazing food.

My family ate lunch here on a Saturday. The décor and music give the place a comfortable ambiance. We ordered cheesesteak sandwiches, hot wings and a mushroom Swiss burger, which seemed to be a good representation of the menu. Everything was delicious. The folks working there were friendly, and took obvious pride in the restaurant, which made the experience that much better, although the food’s good quality could stand by itself.
At $ 35 for 4 people before tip and tax (without drinks), Rick’s was a bit more than we would normally like to pay for lunch, but the portions were generous, and the food well-​made. Definitely worth the trip.

I’ve only had a better cheesesteak in Philly. And I’ve had worse cheesesteaks in Philly too. So that says something! Prices are on the low side for cheesesteak ($ 8ish) and sides are huge — one small fries is plenty for 2, maybe 3 people. Very friendly staff and quick service. Not quite Philly big-​as-​your-​head cheesesteak but still pretty big. Definitely recommended.

Went in on a busy lunch weekday… didn’t wait too long, if we had to, it would have been worth it. Ordered bacon cheesesteak with mayo and cheese fries, both were great! Price wasn’t bad and the staff was very friendly… can’t wait to go back!

I had the regular chicken cheeseteak and it was awesome! Added lettuce, onions, peppers… yumm! Ricks is a small shop located right on jefferson, its easy to miss– its about 2 min down from quaker steak and lube. They gaave me just the right amount of chicken, with a little rolling off the bun (no problem there!). Their fries are crinkle cut and looked sooo good!(i didnt get any :-/​) Minus one star: soda was over 2 $ (bottled) but still! Im glad this place is really close to me, i cant wait to return!

Rick’s is the best option for an «authentic» cheesesteak in the area. I’ve never tried any of their other offerings, but the menu looks like pretty standard hoagies and sandwiches. I’ve ordered my large cheesesteak as take out several times and it’s always prepared as requested. The large sub is humongous. You’ll have meat falling off the roll, guaranteed. This is actually an issue that caused me to deduct a star from the rating. It’s just too much meat. By the time you get your sub home and unwrapped, it can be a greasy mess and difficult to scarf down. Nevertheless, it tastes great. Whenever I’m in the mood for a cheesesteak, Rick’s is my first choose.

So I gave Rick’s a second try today because I was really craving a cheese steak. Unfortunately Newport News doesn’t have many options available when it comes to this type of food. So I walk in and am greeted immediately. There was only 2 waitresses and they were really busy. They should definitely hire more to take the strain off of just 2 people. They were running around like crazy. All the while still pleasant. So I order an 8 inch beef steak with onions, mushrooms, hot peppers and mayo on the side. My order was ready in about 15 minutes. I rush home because last time my hogie was soggy with the oil from the steak by the time I drove the 5 minutes to my house. This time I was very pleased because it wasn’t soggy. The flavor is good, but I don’t see myself rushing back anytime soon.

The staff was very friendly and attentive. And the Italian was a great surprise. The mixture of the cheese, ribeye, cappy and pepperoni just right. Good thing I live 45 minutes away or I’d weight 400 lbs. I’ll definitely be back when I visit the peninsula.

I have been in this area 4 years, it took that long to find a true cheese steak. The beef is piled high and cooked to perfection. Ricks makes the best in this area!

I really can’t say enough good things about this place. It truly is a great place to stop and have a philly. The atmosphere is decorated with pop culture items which fits it’s no frills personality of a business. The servers we friendly and chatty but not to the point of annoyance.
As for the food, it’s the main reason I come here and will continue to do so unless something drastic happens. The food may take a bit longer than you like but it is well worth the wait. Perfection takes time.

Excellent!!! So glad rick opened a third shop right here in city center. Food is great no matter what you order, friendly staff and reasonable pricing.

Now THAT’S a cheesesteak. They pile them high with beef and cheese. I got mine with onions and sweet peppers. The peppers were marinated in some kind of sweet pickling, which added an excellent flavor twist. The only thing I would change is to add a bit more salt and pepper to the meat while it’s cooking. I also got a large cheese fries to split with the gf (which ended up being too large). They really know how to serve cheese fries: a boatload of cheese sauce so each fry has a good coating of cheese. The service was on the ball and very friendly. I’ll definitely go back!
Unrelated to the food, the parking lot needs resurfacing, and the inside of the place is nicer than you would expect from looking at the outside.

So glad we decided to try this place. Good variety on the menu. Cheesesteaks (beef/​chicken), hot dogs, hamburgers, hoagies and more. Have some beers on site.
The chili cheese fries were spicy. Super tasty! Cheese sticks were very good, the sauce made them.
Cheesesteaks were good!!! Loved the Maryland with shrimp. Hamburger was tasty too.
Staff was super friendly. We will return.

This Review is way overdue !! Awesome, Awesome Place !! I visited here a year ago and I sometimes wake up dreaming of this place. The inside is really nicely decorated; I remember the service being Top Notch, Very Friendly. Even during the LUNCH Rush during my visit. I had a Cheese Steak called «The Maryland», It was absolutely the Best Cheese Steak sandwich I’ve ever, (Yes, Ever) eaten !! Lots of Meat, Bay Shrimp, Lots of Cheese !! It was Amazing !
I just wish I lived close enough to try everything else on the Menu ! Almost feel like booking a Coast To Coast trip to try it again, It’s that good. For a Great Sandwich, this is the place to try !

Definitely one of the best cheesesteaks that I have had in a really long. I had the 12″ Maryland Cheesesteak, it was stinkin’ delicious! This is a large sandwich and the smaller sized sandwich will fill you up, the footlong can be shared for sure. Downfall is that it’s on the other side of the water for me but it’s definitely worth the drive. The parking lot there needs a little work but does the job. Hopefully one day they will open one in Virginia Beach (please please do this, go ahead and make this big boy happy).
This location has a casual setting with tons of dated posters and signs with a significant amount of seating; so whether you’re rolling solo or with a group they can accommodate you. If you’re in Newport News, check this place out! You will not be disappointed.

So sad we discovered this place a week before we moved away!
Our first stop in was on a rainy Friday night. The husband ordered an italian cheesesteak, and I, longing for Texas, had the brisket sandwich which was on special. The hubs love his Italian cheesesteak and I love the brisket sandwich, it tasted nothing like Texas brisket, but was still very, very tasty.
We managed to stop in once more before we moved. Hubby ordered the same thing as before and convinced me to try a regular cheesesteak. It was my first time every having cheesesteak and it was delicious! The cheesesteaks are HUGE so I took half home. Put it in the over on 275 til it warms up and its tasty, perhaps as not as tasty as the first time, but pretty good for leftovers.
