We’ve been eating at Anderson’s for years. They have well executed, incredibly fresh Garden to table food. Their menu tends to be seasonal, so sometimes your favorite dishes may drop off the menu but their food is top notch with the freshest ingredients you can imagine. My favorite sandwich is the Gobbler. AMAZING. I you go here and don’t try their bread, you are committing a culinary crime. Anderson’s Showplace Bread is incredible, fresh, crusty and substantial.

I’ve been going here for years. This place really became a hit when they added the café. Will be changing its name soon to the Sage Café. My wife likes The Gobbler, which is like Thanksgiving on a sandwich. And my dad really likes the shoestring fries. I like the French Dip sandwich, however, it is a little small and sometimes not on the menu. And after lunch, it’s always great to explore the many different flowers bursting with color in the greenhouses!

Never had a bad meal there. The lemon crème blueberry pancakes are my favorite. But even something as simple as grits are taken to the next level. The staff is friendly and professional. Great experience.

Been here for breakfast and lunch, with my family and with my co-worker. Both times their food was phenomenal. The staff is always attentive and friendly. The shrimp and grits is my favorite! Flavorful and filling!

This is a cute, unexpected little bistro in a garden store I love. The food is reliably delicious, though somewhat overpriced for what you get. I frequently order the quesadillas, which are tasty. The portions are slightly smaller than most people expect, so if you prefer large servings, order soup or salad or an appetizer. Service is always courteous and prompt.

On a whim, we decided to stop in here for lunch. The dining area is nicely laid out with booths along the wall and tables in the middle. The menu had a great selection with standard lunch fare. It was freezing outside so I ordered a cup of tomato basil soup and a grilled cheese and tomato sandwich. My husband ordered the Tragermeister sandwich and my son, a hamburger. Our food arrived after a medium wait time. My husband’s sandwich was delicious and the slaw on it was very tasty. My grilled cheese was sadly lacking in very much cheese. The ratio of cheese to bread was very sad. I might have just ordered grilled bread. My soup was delicious and hot. My son’s hamburger was just fair as the bottom bun was completely saturated and mushy. Our sever checked on us only 1 time which was disappointing as we needed drink refills and when she did check on us at the end of our meal, it was to bring us the check. Prices were a bit high as well… so I don’t think we will be back.

Tragermeister sandwich was very good. This place is busy so prepare to wait for your food. It’s not prettiest place to dine but it’s comfortable. The menu is decent with different options as far as sandwiches are concerned. This place is situated inside Andersons home and garden showplace so don’t miss it.

Came here on a Saturday afternoon for lunch and it was busy!!! All The staff are incredibly nice! The service and food is outstanding! I had the tragermeister sandwich and it was the best sandwich I’ve ever had! The waiter accidentally dropped one piece of bread from my husband’s sandwich and he came back with another sandwich for him… so nice! I would definitely come back!

Anderson’s Showplace Café has amazing food. And as a vegetarian, there is plenty to choose from. On this trip, I enjoyed a scrumptious pumpkin crème brûlée. Only bad part… Had to share. :-)

Good gracious. Try this. It’s worth the drive. Hidden gem in Newport News. Dive diner setup with an awesome menu. Had the chicken salad with avocado on brioche. Incredible. Service was a bit slow but was during rush. Clean. Tasty as hell. I will make special trips to visit again.

I went Anderson’s Showplace Café on 10÷17÷15 for lunch while visiting the area with 2 other people. I would never have guessed that a full service restaurant was inside the store. I thought the service and plentiful options of comfort and/or healthy food options were great. Maybe I am a little jaded coming from the Washington, DC metro area but I thought the prices for lunch were also fantastic. I paid for lunch for myself and 2 other people and my total bill was under $ 50.00. In a nutshell this is a fantastic find if you’re in the area and are looking for a casual lunch.

My husband and I moved to this area in 2013 and always thought Anderson’s showplace was more for lawn and gardening. We were so surprised that there was a café inside. I had the blacken chicken sandwich and it was amazing! They also have a paleo to go that you can place orders online with either pick up or delivery to local area.

Nice alternative to go and have lunch but it becomes extremely busy so you need to get in early it might be difficult to make it through the little boutique because they have such a nice selection of handbags and jewelry shoes and clothes The staff are very friendly outgoing and welcoming.

The more I think about this place the more I love it. In fact I’m not sure why i don’t dine here more often. The food is fresh farm to table, local, sustainable, there is always a buzz, service is stellar, I just wished they offered their paleo to go menu in house. Brunch on lunch this is one of the top five places to considered enjoying food. Try it out. I promise you will like it.

Ok so I got lucky on this one, first of all it is hidden away inside a garden showplace that you must walk through to get into. At first glance I thought I was about to dine at a retirement home with all of the older people there but I was pleasantly surprised at the meal we enjoyed. My girlfriend had eaten there for years and suggested we try it. I had the«Traegermeister«which is a turkey sandwich with bacon, smoked gouda cheese, coleslaw, Chipotle mayo, and sun dried tomatoes all on a tomato herb bread and I have to say I savored every delicious bite. Being a creature of habit I will probably have the exact same thing when we go back…

This one came out of left field. I’ve breezed over reviews here and there on Unilocal, driven by it a lot, but never knew that this home and garden store housed a café… a big café that I might add. I met new clients there Friday morning over breakfast. On this particular morning it wasn’t packed but I heard that they can have a line waiting for a seat even with the capacity to seat close to 50 people. There’s lots to choose from but I went ahead with The Katy, an omelette. It came with sausage, cheddar, and bacon served along with a big piece of toast and home fries. The toast was good and the omelette good, too, a decent size, but I wasn’t a fan of the home fries. I didn’t get a chance to walk through their showplace but there is a store inside where you can buy random things for your home. Our nice season is shortly upon us so you can find a lot of things to have in your yard such as yard flags, outdoor furniture, and fountains. Certainly worth to pay a visit if you’re in the neighborhood if you need a bite or want to freshen up your yard.

This is a hidden gem! Everything here is homemade and fresh, need I say more… I had the chicken salad sandwich with butter nut squash soup and they both were delicious. Chicken salad is very popular here and I hear they go through 400 lbs per week of the chicken salad(hint). If you are into gardening they also have a wide variety of plant and gardening offerings. I will be back soon to try more. Most of menu is under $ 10 so jus go and you won’t be disappointed.

This review is regarding the breakfast at the café. I have had their lattes in the past and they were good though. I ordered the Showplace Benedict. I was SO, SO, SO excited because no where else in Newport News makes Eggs Benedict. and quite frankly this place probably shouldn’t either. It arrived on what smelled, looked, & tasted like Texas toast saturated with vegetable shortening. It was vile and made my stomach immediately hurt. On top of the Texas toast was spinach and some white sauce… with shredded deli meat ham. The eggs were perfect though. Wish I liked this place, the menu made it seem so fancy.
