I just used Ethan’s pools for my backyard remodel including a new spa, BBQ island and plantar wall. I was referred to Ethans pools from a mutual client about 5 months ago. I called and spoke with the owner, who promptly referred me to his project manager Wes. Because I had bid a few different companies already, I just had to give some details about the project to Wes and he was able to deliver a full proposal with a short turn around time a a great price. Wes was great to work with throughout and was always available by phone if he wasn’t on the site. I will give specifics about the entire project. Plan approval: this part took about 3 – 4 weeks in Huntington Beach. This is one area that was supposed to be faster according to Ethans pools. Hard to fault them for this I guess. Demo: started well, very efficient, the crew hauled away the dirt instead of leaving it on site like many other companies do. Trouble is, the entire demo was not finished initially, so a different crew had to come and it took them a few extra days. Overall, maybe about a week. Rebar: this was finished in half a day, but needed some modification due to excess ground water and the addition of a hydrostatic valve. Piping and electrical: this was pretty seamless, although make sure to be specific about jet height. Took about 4 days. Shotcrete: ½ day, but some overspray that needed cleaning later. Coping and plaster and tile: this was done by otillo and his son– hardest working crew and very good. 3 – 4 days total, he also did the coping for the plantar wall and entire BBQ island. Pebble finish: took ½ day and very clean. Flagstone replacement: this was the only negative about the project. Gary was on this crew, and while his work was good, he does take much longer than promised and expected and likes to complain. This delayed our project by about a week. Overall impression was that Wes is great to work with, honest, and fairly priced. Aside from some minor issues, all was as promised and I would recommend them again. Just be ready for a 3 month project no matter what is promised.

Had Ethans’ Pool Service back out this weekend to winterize my pool, spa, and patio area. The owner had a lot of great suggestions on what needed to be done before the El Nino hits. And as a single person(no strong guy to help me), they helped me complete several of those tasks. Love these guys.

Ethans Pools did the remodelling of our pool. We chose them after considering several pool companies over a two-year period. We chose them because Tom Ethans was easy to talk to, had competitive pricing and when we checked out a couple of pool tile companies and mentioned his name, they had good feedback on him. We contacted their references and they had good and/or reasonable feedback. They resurfaced our pool, put in new tiles, replaced the coping, resized and reshaped the attached spa, redid the plumbing, only replaced pool equipment that needed replacing(this was also one of the«tests» I had before deciding — I wanted to see if they would try to unnecessarily sell me on new equipment for existing equipment that was relatively new — they did not do this). Tom was gracious, patient and reasonable cost-wise with our change orders(we changed our mind at least once during the process). When we had concerns, Tom treated us very professionally(didn’t make us feel dumb, or like we didn’t know what were were talking about) and addressed our concerns promptly. We felt he sincerely wanted us to be happy and he graciously steered us from any of our bad ideas(bad, meaning he thought we wouldn’t be happy in the end — but we needed his foresight to realize when our ideas were not so good). After the job was done, one of the new pool lights stopped working about a couple of months or so. Tom was responsive in addressing the issue — it was a bad pool light; and he arranged for the warranty repair. It was quite painless! Considering other contractors we worked with who cannot be reached after a job is done, Ethans Pools gets very high marks from us on this apect. We definitely had a very favorable experience with them — from pricing/contracting, getting the job done, post-job support.
