Central Orange County Emergency Animal Clinic

My miniature schnauzer got very sick and was vomiting blood on May 30^th. We rush her into the hospital about midnight. Dr. Kim was on duty and immediately took blood samples. We were told that she was dying, and needed emergency surgery as soon as they could stabilize her. The next evening Dr. Kim performed the surgery. She only had a 10% chance of surviving the surgery. Dr. Kim personally came out and told us she survived the surgery. Further, he showed us the photos of her infected gall bladder he removed as well as her infected uterus he removed. The next morning the hospital staff transported her to our vet. Dr. Kim stopped by our vet that afternoon to check on my dog and consult with my vet, Dr. Whitaker.
Both doctors continued to treat and consult with us for the next 6 days until my dog was well enough to come home. We are grateful to Dr. Kim and the caring staff at this hospital.

Our dog was nipped at the Costa Mesa Bark Park after our usual vet was closed and so we headed here. She’s very aloof and they handled her so swiftly and calmly she was a happy girl. Thanks

The staff was very nice and did what ever they could to help. The only complaint I have is the fact that my credit car got charged twice. Had I not payed attention to my statement I would have had to pay $ 250 extra

This is the best place to go. The staff is so awesome. I had to go several times for my cat. They were quick and so knowledgeable and answered any questions and concerns I had. Very professional!

The other night I was doing some chores around the house and I called my Pomeranian to take her out to go to the bathroom (which normally sends her into a frenzy) but no response… Imminently i knew something was up. She was laying on her bed with her eyes barely open and as I continued to tell her it was tie to go for a walk she didn’t even flinch. I scoped her up and start googling 24hr pet hospitals. I was trying to remember the one she had been to years ago but I couldnt think of the name. As i put her down on the floor she fell over and couldnt stand on her own. My heart stopped. I grabbed her and my keys as quickly as I could and jumped in the car. I went to the closet emergency Unilocal showed me which was this place.
As i arrived i handed over my pom to the women at the front desk who took her to the back. As i sat in the waiting room there was a couple waiting to talk to the Vet about their puppy.
When they came out from the room where they spoke with the Vet I could tell they were upset about something. So I asked «Have you guys been here before» They said no and told me how they didn’t trust what the Vet was saying and how much tests and fluids they wanted to out into their 8 week old puppy.
Quickly my guard came up. I was still searching for the phone number of the other animal hospital I trusted.
I was called into the room to talk with the Vet, she wouldn’t even look me in the eyes and kept asking me the same basic questions over and over. I simply told her I got ahold of my dogs normal Vet and was going to take her there. Soon after the assistant came in and showed me the invoice for procedures the Vet recommend.
$ 1,400!!!
Ummm no. I asked for my dog and said I was more then happy to pay the $ 65 visit but was taking her elsewhere. Immediately she had an attitude with me.
As i continued to look over the invoice I decided to take a photo of it on my cell phone, just to compare it to the other Vet. The women quickly snatched it out of my hand and said «No photos of these estimates!» WTF. I can’t take a photo of the procedures you want to preform on my dog?! I couldn’t get out of there fast enough.
After taking my dog to the other hospital they evaluated her and simply said she must have eaten something (maybe medical marijuana) and would be completely fine but told me to call if her symptoms got worst.
I will never go back to this place EVER

I brought my cockatiel here because it was the closest emergency vet clinic near me and I was told they had a vet able to see my bird.
Within 10 minutes of bringing my bird in a back room (without me. which I found odd), he had passed away.
The vet who told me the devasting news of my beloved pet passing away had no expression and basically told me he had passed away and had me pay over $ 100 to practically bring my bird into a back room for 15 minutes.
Something about this place didn’t make me feel at ease and I will forever regret not listening to my gut.
Something happened here that night, and I’ll never know.
Please, consider driving a few extra miles for quality care for your babies. Don’t make the mistake I did.

I had to bring my cat back twice here. I feel that she had the best care as fast as possible and the staff was so nice and vet Dr Claire was so nice and Aimee staff reception was so caring and nice and same with everyone else that I met at the front desk. The prices are pretty good and I feel that it is actually cheaper than some Non-​emergent vets. I definitely recommend this place.

My cat got into a nasty fight with another cat and I ended up here a few days later when he wasn’t acting like himself. I was a nervous wreck and didn’t know what to do so I called the clinic and was told to bring him down. I can’t say enough good things about this place. They took such good care of my cat. The staff was wonderful, they explained what they were doing and kept me updated on the whole process. Greg was excellent in explaining home care and how to care for my cat until I was able to do a follow up with my regular vet.
I hope I don’t have to end up here again but if something were to happen I would definitely bring him back.

WARNING!!! Don’t take any animal you care about to this place! I would give zero stars if it were available. I called my own vet this morning. The call was picked up by this emergency vet clinic. After speaking with them, I wasn’t sure it was an emergency, but the man on the phone said they were there until 8:00am if I needed them. I had placed my call at 6:45am. After hanging up, my dog started acting worse. I decided to drive over and have him examined. I arrived, and the man at the front desk, I wish I had paid attention to his name, was apathetic, and less than understanding. He informed me, after earlier telling me they were there until 8:00am, that there would be little they could do. They would just refer me back to my vet. It was very evident they did not want to deal with me or my pet, since it was almost time for them to leave. I was then sent into an examination room. I could hear them whispering outside the door. He was telling Dr. Haney (sp?), «I told her that we really couldn’t do anything, but she’s in there.» At this point I started crying. The vet walked in, and at that point I was calling my own vet. I took my information with me, and told those awful, uncaring people I wouldn’t be back. I’m sorry you were tired and wanted to go home. If it’s that bad DO SOMETHING ELSE! It shouldn’t matter what time a pet parent shows up. We should be treated with respect and compassion, and our pet examined, NO MATTER WHAT. I have children as well, and if they were treated that way by a doctor, I would sue! Please have another emergency vet clinic in your contact list.

I’ve taken my little guys there twice now. I think this is the best place to take your pets. Staff is very friendly, helpful, and caring. Dr’s speak to you and explain. So you can understand what’s going on with your pets. Thank you again for all your help

One night when we were preparing for bed, we noticed our cat acting strangely… kind of Unilocaling when we would touch her, not wanting to come to us, hiding on the side of the room, etc. We were naturally worried because she’s never had issues before so we decided to get her some help. (Bye bye, sleep!)
A quick call to our usual veterinary office directed us here. We set our bar very low — I mean, c’mon…a 24 hour pet clinic? First, we’re going to get reamed and then we probably won’t even get quality care. Boy, were we wrong!
Everyone we encountered was super sweet and very reassuring. We met with Dr. Kim who did his best with the limited information that we gave him. I realized their facility is basically triage to get you through to seeing your primary vet again but we definitely felt better about everything after our visit here. X-​rays were taken and Dr. Kim gave us a thorough explanation of what we were seeing.
We left with some medication, some x-​rays and a many well-​wishes. Our bill was pretty reasonable, especially considering the emergency nature of our visit, probably no more than what our regular vet would charge. In the end, we were glad that Central Orange County Emergency Animal Clinic was here for us when we needed it.

I can’t give enough stars to these guys here. 5 is not enough for what they did for me and my puppy. She ate an entire box full of assorted chocolate and I was very close to losing her. around 2 am or so they were the place that looked decent and close by I was able to find online and rushed her there in a hurry. these guys immediately took her to the back and started working on her. They assured me they would do everything it would take to save her and get her feeling ok again. she was there for 14 – 15 hours or so and they were able to stabilize her. Did a number of treatments to kill all bacteria that had gathered in her lungs, flushed her system, cleaned out her stomach, and etc… I am forever thankful for them for giving her back to me. the entire team that took care of her from beginning to end were great. Thank You! 200% recommend!!!

Update. They sent the office visit notes to out regular vet, Dr Mackey (amazing vet), and out vet knew in detail what our pup had during his visit. We got a phone call from our vet and some follow up information. Wonderful.

This should be a no star review.
We brought our beloved 10 year old Labradoodle here late Christmas night because he was exhibiting symptoms of bloat. I said that I was worried he was bloating.
The attending vet said it was not bloat and not an emergency. I have papers that were faxed to our regular vet to back this up — «gastro intestinal issues.» A complete misdiagnosis of what may be the number 1 killer of dogs brought to emergency clinics.
By 100 pm yesterday afternoon (¹²⁄₂₆) we were rushing our dying dog to another animal emergency hospital where he very quickly passed away from bloat.
We are beyond devastated. If this post makes one pet owner think twice and saves just one dog we will be grateful.

First, lets start off with the fact that these guys are open on Christmas Eve and Christmas day. These people are taking time away from their families and pets to take care of our pets. That in and of itself was a huge load off of my shoulders.
My dog, Loki, had ingested some ibuprofen on Tuesday morning. Had already started a treatment plan with my vet, but needed a place who could continue the treatment and monitor him on Christmas. They agreed to use the meds I had already gotten from my Vet at no charge to me. Waived the exam fee, because of the referral paperwork my regular vet sent over, and were expecting me when I walked in the door.
Maribel (sorry if spelled that wrong) and Amy were the VA on call when I brought Loki in and both of them were super nice. My dog is typically pretty skittish around strangers but he seemed to warm up to both of them pretty quickly.
Amy was super helpful in going over the pricing, and even offered to throw in an anal gland check-​up for free. For no particular reason at all. Just to be nice.
The doctor was really great. My vet had sent over referral paperwork and the doc went over everything with me, asked some questions and answered all of my questions.
As I was getting ready to go over the invoice I was expecting to have to sell my kidney to pay for everything. I was way off. It was incredibly affordable. The VCA off the 405 and Euclid had quoted me a minimum price that was close to 5x more $$$. That’s not a knock on the VCA. They have great doctors and great staff. But why pay quintuple for the same services?
I’m really glad I found these guys and wish I had known about them last night when I rushed Loki to the VCA. Would have saved me several hundred dollars if I had.

I returned from a trip out of town to find my old cat very ill and took her here as it was the only place open.
The receptionist took my cat in and i heard the vet with other staff in the room literally LAUGHING at my cat bc she looked so sad. Insulting and beyond belief. I could hear every thing they were saying. TOTAL White Trash.
Meanwhile, some lady brought in a dog with a bee sting and the receptionist was SO rude and they tried using scare tactics to get $ 1000 from her claiming the dog could possibly die. Total bullshit.
So they gave me a $ 400 bill and sent me home with my sick cat, and some medicine i was supposed to feed her but couldnt because she was so sick.
A week later, i took her to Laguna Beach to a COMPASSIONATE AND CARING VET who then had to euthanize her because of the poor and overpriced care she got in Newport.
I would NEVER recommend this place. It was like an episode of twilight zone. The staff was wretched and inconsiderate. They would be better suited as Carl’s Jr drive thru staff. Because you couldnt pay me to eat that shit.

I am not incorrect in my experience and judging by your reply within hours of posting maybe you are defensive for a reason.
My opinion based on experience was that of a low class staff, nothing personal and certainly NOT the treatment I came in for.
THIS IS THE CORRECT PLACE AND THE $ 400 bill was accurate as well as my description of the things I firsthand witnessed.
Also my experience occured two years ago and I still shudder to think of how rotten your staff made me feel. Perhaps you are new and making up for pst mistakes. Dont know Dont care. I took my cats to another vet up the road for declaw so i am VERY AWARE AS TO WHICH LOCATION I BROUGHT MY PET INTO.
Also, thanks to First Amendment, i am able to call em as i see fit. White trash is degrading but the way YOUR STAFF MADE ME FEEL WAS BEYOND DREGRADING.
Nice pathetic attempt at defending the business, clearly i am NOT the only one who has experienced the horror i did.

Do I have to give this place ANY stars?
One of the worst experiences at the vet in my entire life. My dog had a urinary tract infection and I thought that I could wait until the morning to take her to her regular vet. That night she had traces of blood in her urine so I decided to take her to this clinic.
The clinic was difficult to find in the middle of the night and I had to call the receptionist a couple of times, but that was fine.
When I went in, the receptionist was indifferent. That’s fine, I don’t care about how friend a staff is as long as the vet is good.
Unfortunately, the vet was horrible. I told her that I think my dog has a urinary tract infection. Instead of trying to get more information about the urinary tract infection and her symptoms, the vet started to ask what kind of food my dog was eating. (I have been feeding my dog Orijen for over a year and have not had any issues.) She said that vet owners feeding their dogs natural balance had issues with kidney stones/​crystals. Without talking about any other possible causes for difficult urination, the vet focused solely on my dog having kidney stones/​crystals. She then went ahead to suggested numerous tests for that night such as injection fluid into my dog’s body so that she will pee for urinalysis. She prescribed blood work, an injection, some antibiotics, and another test that came out to be almost $ 800.
As a dog owner with two large dogs, I have been to more than one emergency pet clinic and have been to multiple vet clinics. I know when a vet is being genuine and care about your pet and when he or she is aggressively preying on worried pet parents. Based on my experience, I decided to just get the antibiotic and went home. It has been more than a week and my pet is back to normal. The antibiotic took care of the urinary tract infection, a problem that any good vet would suggest me attempt to fix first with antibiotics instead of recommending superfluous and expensive tests.
Even if suggesting a urinalysis and blood work was standard protocol for difficult urination, the vet could at least entertain the idea that my dog might have a UTI instead of kidney stones/​crystals. Instead, she completely disregarded that possibility and started to fixate on the type of food I was feeding my dog.
I am extremely unhappy with this clinic even though their greedy practices make much sense. Vet visits are a luxury that not many dog owners can afford, especially emergency vet clinics. It’s not a surprise that an emergency vet clinic would tack on medical tests during a visit because the chances of the same patient coming back to an emergency clinic instead of their regular vet is slim. I truly do not like leaving bad reviews, but I took this experience really personally because of the pain and fear that my dog would have went through if I had made the wrong decision and followed this vet’s suggestion.

Our cat Alfie isn’t very bright. But he’s super cute. And quite a LOT of trouble.
I woke up at 2am the other night to some HEAVY panting coming out of my guy. Ok… he’s got a smushy face, he does pant like a dog when he runs… so maybe this will stop soon???
… OK this is like nothing I’ve ever heard HOLY CRAP HES DYING WHAT DO I DO!?! Unilocal ME!!! (he was not dying but cats SHOULD NOT be breathing like he was, its a COMPLETE emergency.)
Closest 24 hr vet to my apartment, called them and they confirmed my worst fears that he was dying (in need of medical attention) so I rushed him over.
The staff WAS SO AMAZING I cannot even begin to tell you how sweet they all were to me and Alfie. Alfie had a fever of 104 so he got checked in and I panicked some more. They gave me a treatment plan outline, I paid my life away, and they asked me to get some sleep and come back at 7am.
I picked him up and it turns out my sweet lil man had been such a jerk to all of them he got a cone of shame and had to have some valium. Lil shit. They still treated him well though.
They told me to take Alfie to another vet later that day, and later that night they called when they re-​opened to check on him. They mentioned that it would be very affordable if I needed to bring him back for one more night of monitoring, because my initial fees took care of most of the treatments. I appreciated that a lot, but he was on the mend.
I now have pet insurance (lesson learned) but Alfie needed the treatment he got. Vets, especially overnight vets, are expensive but hey! SO ARE LAWYERS and I am one. Alfie, and my other cat Butters, are and will always be worth it. AND all the work they did saved me $$$ at the next vet later in the day, so thats a HUGE bonus!
I’m happy I live near here and while I REALLY NEVER want to have to bring my babies to the ER again, I’d absolutely bring them here!!!

Thank you to this incredible and extremely friendly staff. My young puppy Golden Retriever ate a mango pit off our kitchen floor so we took him over to this location where they easily took care of him. Quick, easy, and very helpful team that I am happy I met but hope not to see anytime soon. :)
Highly recommend in case of an emergence for your pet.

I have had the unfortunate experience of having to take my dog here several times for after-​hours emergency visits. But I’m really happy they are here! Very friendly and conveniently located!
I REALLY REALLY like the staff and they do a great job with my dog. However, I have to dock them because they told me to rush in here when my dog got into a milk chocolate Easter bunny and then sold me all these services for almost 500 dollars.
Well, when I took Madaline to our normal vet in CDM later that week, the vet said the amount of chocolate she ate was not really dangerous although she might have had an upset stomach. AND that a bunch of the other services would like, make Madaline more comfortable after they made her puke but weren’t like, life-​saving or anything.
I love my dog dearly, but for 500 dollars she can deal with a little doggie diarrhea.
Use for emergencies FOR SURE, but be wary of the potentially unnecessarily services they might try to sell you.
