LOVE this place! I stop every time I pass through town. BBQ Pork, Slaw and Brunswick Stew are my favorites! Great, Friendly service too!

The customer service was good, the prices are terrible, and the smoked wings and fried catfish were absolutely flavorless. They looked good, but sorely disappointed. Really regret that we paid that much for such unremarkable food.

Had this years ago and I remember it being pretty good, so I am not sure what happened. Just went there and the BBQ tastes old and like it is but fresh BBQ made there. I can’t describe it, but it was not good at all. Someone else got the chicken fried steak, which looked really good, but the BBQ was not. Sides were so so.

As a warning, I may let nostalgia get in the way of this review. Sprayberry’s Barbecue was the very first place that I ever had Carolina style pork barbecue. This was in 1993 and I have had barbecue in lots and lots of places since then, but Sprayberry’s holds a special place in my heart. Sprayberry’s Barbecue started in 1926. Although they opened a second location out by the Interstate in the 90’s I still prefer to go to their original location on Jackson Street on the edge of old Newnan. Their specialty is chopped pork with a red vinegar sauce — I always ask for extra sauce on the side. They also have other meats available and a new mustard sauce, but I stuck with my old standby — a small barbecue plate that included chopped pork, Brunswick stew, pickles, and bread. Of course, you have to order sweet tea to go with it — completed with chipped ice instead of cubes. The tea has always been a little weaker than some other places, but it is consistent. The Brunswick Stew is unlike any other stew I have ever had anywhere, but unique is always good and I think this stew is delicious — it is pureed so you need to get past that, but still good. Today the plate was served quick and was hot with both the pork and stew being just like I remembered it. My server was a genteel older Southern lady who was very friendly. Perhaps it was my lucky day and the nostalgia gods were shining on me, but I did not find the reviews saying that Sprayberry’s had slipped over the years to be accurate on this visit — just as awesome as I remember it. The servers always offer you a refill to go, which is a nice friendly touch. Go to Sprayberry’s — it might become your favorite, too.

Stopped for just a sandwich ! Moist and tender. Loved the tangy BBQ sauce. No wait time in and out in 10 min.

This is the original location. To look at the building now it’s very similar to what it was 40 years ago. Against all the people from that era are all gone. I’ll give them top notch for their Fanta grape drink with pelletized ice and their onion rings or steak fries. Their hamburgers are mediocre there okay not like they were years ago. Mr Houston Sprayberry BBQ all my young life. I’m not sure what they don’t do to it now but its not like it was. I’ve seen people come from all over to come and eat barbecue here. I’m not really sure why. The barbecue is too much vinegar based. So was the coleslaw. It’s been a while but best I can remember the Brunswick stew was pretty good. So for what it’s worth overall is really good. Just pass on the BBQ. And no, barbecue is not hamburgers and hotdogs! Oh and as a footnote I’m never had an issue with service.

There’s nothing absolutely special about the BBQ here. The stew is pretty good, the daily lunch specials are pretty good. The weakest part of this restaurant is the BBQ and the prices. The prices are awful for the quality

I looked forward to eating in a long-time Newnan restaurant with a strong family connection but was a bit disappointed. The barbeque ribs were tasty but TOTALLY a mustard creation. I like them somewhat but would have liked knowing that was the only form they take. Service was excellent — fast and friendly — with great sweet tea, steak fries and beans. Just wish there was another flavoring to the meat.

A lot of people write this place off, but I was pretty impressed! Would recommend. Kind of expensive, however.

Sprayberry’s is a Newnan staple and definitely recommended for any visitor because of the atmosphere. Anything on the menu is recommended, it just depends on the way you like your barbeque. And I would recommend one of the milkshakes, even though that’s not the first thing you’d think to order at a bbq restaurant.

If you enjoy North Carolina style barbecue then you will love this place. If your a fan of sweet barbecue, go somewhere else.

Service was prompt & accurate, however food was not all that great. Price at checkout was astronomical to only be getting some nachos, a ½ rack of ribs & kids grilled cheese sandwich. I ordered the BBQ nachos thinking they would be good & they turned out to be just a pile of ingredients in a go box. Too much lettuce & sour cream & the cheese tastes horrible. After a couple bites my stomach was in knots. My husband ordered a ½ rack with fries & had to put his own salt on the fries, BBQ sauce for ribs was very soupy. I would’ve given a lesser number of stars but the window attendant was so friendly & made sure we had everything before leaving the drive thru window. I will NOT be returning here again.

Our family recently had lunch at the original Sprayberry’s. It had been several years since we had been to that location. I was happy the instant I got out of the car. Love, love, love the smell of good barbecue hanging in the air. Walking through the door is like time traveling back to the 1920’s, and we all love that. The chopped pork sandwich, fries, onion rings, and Brunswick Stew were as good as we remembered. Our waitress was friendly. I love the sound of my pork being chopped in the kitchen. I had forgotten how much I love the pickles. The silverware is still put into a little white bag and that is unique and fun, I think. We did miss not being able to get a Coke in a bottle but other than that we had a great meal. Looking forward to going back.

This just wasn’t very good barbecue. I really don’t understand why everyone gets so excited about it. The chopped brisket and pulled pork were OK, but nothing great. The brunswick stew was bland. The service was OK. For me, the best thing about eating at Sprayberry’s is ‘checking the box’ to tell everyone that I’ve eaten at Sprayberry’s. I have no desire to return.

Not my kind of BBQ. Having lived in Texas most of my life this kind of BBQ was not to my liking. The sauce is watery, the stew bland, and the meat had no flavor. Aside from the sweet tea most of the items on the menu I don’t like.

BBQ prepared well. Comes sauced which is a negative in my book. And not a fan of the sauce. Ribs big and meaty but same sauce. Potato salad average but baked beans awesome. Brunswick stew… Why is this not a side but a meat dish on the combination platter. Did get to taste the stew and I suggest passing.

I just moved to the Atlanta area, having decided on Newnan for awhile as I learn the city. Being from Memphis, I’ve got to check out the Barbecue. That’s a given. After hearing about the history of Sprayberrys, it seemed logical to try this original location first. A simple order was placed… Pork Sandwich(with slaw, of course) and a side of beans. I’m no amateur on my pork offerings. If there ain’t slaw ON the sandwich, you’re not eating a barbecue sandwich. Call me surprised that putting slaw on the sandwich added 75 cents to the sandwich. Ridiculous! That’s like charging extra for cheese on a pizza. If that’s how they roll in Georgia, there’s not a thing I can do about it. First of all, the beans were good. It’s pretty hard to mess up beans, and these were flavorful with some pork bits for texture. The Pork sandwich was a cross between Memphis-style and North Carolina-style. The sauce was very vinegary, which was fine with me. The sauce was the highlight of the sandwich. Since the slaw was also heavy with vinegar, it overpowered the pork a bit. The meat texture was decent, but lacked a good smoke flavor. With the added tariff for the coleslaw that should have been included, the sandwich was an average portion for an above-average price. It wasn’t a bad sandwich, but it wasn’t any stellar effort. I’ll give the other offerings a try sometime. Maybe their ribs are inspired, or the Brunswick Stew. This place has been around a long time, so they must be popular. I’ll continue my quest for good barbecue in the Atlanta area. This ain’t it!

While pursuing my college degrees and after 23 years in Newnan, this is the one restaurant I come home to every time. Their Aristocrat is amazing, the BBQ salad with chunks of pulled pork is delicious with BBQ sauce as salad dressing, but my favorite is the Houston. One whopping sandwich full of Brunswick stew and succulent pulled pork, could life get any better?! This is a must have!

Good in the past… Horrible now. It’s been around in Newnan since the dawn of time. Back in the day it use to be very good and you could drive be anytime and see them smoking the meat outside. Now everything is PROCESSED and purchased from a whole seller. EVERYTHING. The brunswick stew is watery and bland. The pulled pork is dry as hell. The ribs are small and have little to no sauce on them. Dont waste your time by visiting this place.

I ate here all the time as a kid, and the only thing I could remember about the place was that I really didn’t like their sauce, too vinegary. So, since I’m home for the holidays, I thought I’d give it try again. Big disappointment. I judge a BBQ joint off of 5 things: Sauce, Pulled pork, Ribs, sweet tea and Brunswick Stew(if they have it, points off if they don’t). Here is what I’ve experienced from Sprayberry’s in each of these categories on a scale from 1 – 10, 1 being the lowest. Sauce: 2 — watery, vinegary, almost no flavor other then vinegar and maybe a hint of tomato. Pulled Pork: 6 — Not too bad, but not outstanding either. If I return, this will probably be the only thing I order. Ribs: 1 — Seriously? Dry, overcooked, flavorless. Not even appetizing. Sweet Tea: 9 — But then again, you can’t stay open as long as this place has if you haven’t perfected this. Brunswick Stew: 5 — Once again, not too bad, but not outstanding either. Would probably be much better without the overwhelming vinegar flavor. I hate to give this place such a bad review, but I was extremely disappointed with the quality of the food. Especially being that this place is so famous in this area. Had there been no hype, or had this restaurant not been in the South where BBQ is suppose to be good, they may have warranted 3 stars.
