Community theatre, you know, can kind of go either way. Newnan Theatre Company goes the right way — a long, long way the right way! The location, just outside the south historic district in Newnan, is absolutely charming and the building is perfect: old, brick, well-kept without losing its patina. Lovely. The lobby is huge — I can certainly see why folks rent the space — and perfectly decorated with wood floors, the requisite past performance posters and a small but fun concession stand. If you’ve ever done community or small theatre, you will sense home the second you walk in the door. It just feels right. The main stage theatre is perfect: good acoustics, comfortable, and as big as many small professional theatres. I didn’t see the blackbox, though I’m sure I will in the future. The volunteer staff was courteous, professional, and helpful — and informed me that NTC has been operating for 30 years. That’s incredibly impressive for community theatre given their usual budget and the affordability of the tickets. Season ticket prices, BTW? Unbelievable. The show, itself, was excellent. The actors were well-rehearsed but not overly so, talented and in tune with the audience. All in all, it was a terrific experience and one I plan to repeat regularly. If you’re local, visiting, or just a lover of a good show, I recommend you visit. Definitely one of Coweta’s treasures.

Great theatre in historic downtown Newnan. Highly professional, talented, and fun loving people. They will be the first theater to produce awarding winning and totally hysterical non touring production of Monty Pythons Spamalot. The theatre puts on over a dozen productions each year and hosts special events to include offering home school kids educational opportunities and summer camps.
