Cafeteria style southern cooking. Fried chicken and fried green tomatoes are great. Other vegetables were canned but good. Good place for after church. Reasonable prices.

You HAVE to go to Golden’s if you’re in Newnan! The food is so good and just perfect, down home Southern comfort food. In addition to the great food and service, you might run into one of the celebrities filming a movie downtown!

Horrible. Serving lady was rude to a blind man who couldn’t see the vegetables, the food was cold and unflavored, instant potatoes, turkey and dressing that had no turkey, soggy cold fried green tomatoes, and hard over cooked fried okra!

Terrible cafeteria style food. Food is overlooked & low-quality. I honestly cannot believe people around here«love» this — must be nostalgia because it isn’t the food. However, the staff was pleasant!

Great Restaurant! It’s not your typical sit and serve restaurant, but the staff is still able to make you feel right at home. A perfect theme for a comfort food spot. You come in and you immediately see a bar of food; an employee greets you and asks you what you’d like. Good ol’ southern hospitality. When you sit down to eat the food you get to really taste what the South is all about. The food tastes just like your grandma’s did. Not only is the service and hospitality and food great the atmosphere is wonderful as well. The dim lighting and brown dominant furniture makes the mood cool and relaxing. The dim lighting gives the impression that you and your table is all that exist, giving it an intimate setting. Not the most romantic food, but the atmosphere is great for a cheap date night. It’s my second favorite soul food joint. My favorite being a weekday lunch-only spot means that Golden’s On the Square is my go-to weekend, dinner time, place to eat soul food. Final Verdict: Southern Hospitality, greasy cholesterol ridden comfort food that made granny fat and happy, and cool and relaxing atmosphere makes Golden’s on the Square a must go place to eat.

Yum! The turkey with cornbread stuffing and gravy was thanksgiving table worthy and the sweet potatoes AMAZING! I wanted to go back and get more sweet potatoes but I knew that I just couldn’t because I would keep going back and back and back. I swear the sweet potatoes have marshmellows melted into the mix. Servings were very generous and total lunch for two with tip was less than $ 20. Yes, fried foods were available but also sauteed veggies and poached fish was available too.

Meat choices were poor(fried catfish, bbq, fried steak, fried chicken and fish) the sides were cold and the cornbread was greasy. Would never step food back in this place even if I was starving. Most menu items are unhealthy and the healthy ones came straight from a can and had no flavor.

I’ve lived in Newnan for years, and have been dragged to this spot numerous times. Don’t bother, it never gets better. It’s your average Brown Derby/Piccadilly(depending on the area of the country you’re from) cafeteria. I keep trying to get things that I think you can’t screw up, but they manage to — turkey and«gravy,» mashed potatoes, that sort of thing. If you’re on the Newnan square, try a pizza at Fabiano’s, or a sandwich at the Redneck Gourmet.

We decided to try Golden’s on the Square and I was pleasantly surprised at how great it is! I had the beef stew and it was superb! The limas could have been cooked more for my taste, but the corn and bread was awesome. I tried some of the fried chicken breast and it was very tender. Great food and a reasonable price!

Great cafeteria style southern cooking. We had the chicken and the catfish along with several sides. The service was friendly and the food was delicious. The portions were ample. Loved the peach cobbler. We will return to Newnan Georgia just for this place!

Great Place. I love going here for lunch on my days off. My favorite is the fried Chicken. Parking can be a sketchy at times as it is right on the square but the square is not that big so you wont have a long walk even if you have to park on another street.

I’ve been eating here most if my life, the folks that run it also used to own catfish hollow in newnan, they are wonderful people! The food is amazing, feels just like home everytime ya go :) its a cafeteria style place, the meats and veggies change a few times per week. Save room for banana pudding!

We were camping at the new Georgia State park(Chattahoochee Bend) nearby and came into Newnan to explore and look for a cool place to eat. After browsing around the wonderful courthouse square and enjoying several neat Antique Shops we settled on Golden’s. It’s a «meat and 3» cafeteria style. The staff was very nice. We were there Saturday lunch and there weren’t many people eating there. Most of the meats — like the country fried steak that I had — were probably sitting on the line for a while. My steak tasted good but had been in the gravy so long it was soggy. Green beans looked canned but«doctored» with sugar and pork. Greens were heavy on the vinegar. Mashed potatoes were very good, nice and lumpy — obviously homemade. Sweet Potato soufflé was excellent and so was the banana pudding. I’d eat there again but it wasn’t the best southern cooking I’ve had. Perhaps on a day when they are busier and the food is turning faster.

Good to great food. Cafeteria-style type of eatery Good selection of entrees and sides. Flounder was done well — the tartar sauce made it a 10 out of 10. Mac n cheese was ok, pinto beans could have spent a little more time on the stove. Fried chicken was really good, fried cauliflower was good but a tad salty. The desserts were great! An orange-vanilla type of cream pie and the banana vanilla wafer were superb. Beverage was included in the about $ 10 per meal cost. Ambiance is really nice. Will

This is Southern cooking. Catfish, lima beans, cornbread. And it is good. The restaurant is cafeteria style. Grab a tray and tell them what you want when you see it. I had the turkey w/stuffing, lima beans, and cornbread and it was all excellent. My colleague had the macaroni and cheese and it was some of the best mac and cheese anywhere. The beverage is included with the cost of the meal, which can be had for less than ten bucks. Highly recommended for those seeking the genuine Southern cooking experience.
