Dogs In the Rrruff and Meow Too

First time I’ve visited the groomer, and I’m a complete newbie with a standard poodle puppy. But I found the staff to be very nice, and the work with my dog was excellent. She came out well groomed, and, if my coworkers are correct, just as beautiful as she could be. Maura Doyle was professional, friendly and organized. We will return.

Rude employees and the price changes everytime I call.
I too was offered unsolicited advice about my dog that my vet actually said was inaccurate.
I feel bad for the owner. She is nice and seems to know how to treat customers.

I have taken my dog to dogs in the rough about four times. It was fine. They treat my dog well. She doesn’t like getting a bath so there was nothing about the experience that was going to be particularly pleasant for her. That said the last time that I brought her it was very close to Christmas and in the defense of the groomers, I think they were swamped but trying to fit me in to help me out. My dog has a lot of undercoat and she sheds massively and what I needed was for them to wash her and take care of the undercoat so that it wouldn’t be all over the house over the holidays when I had company.
When I picked her up she was clean but she obviously had not been thoroughly brushed out. The woman at the counter then proceeded to tell me that she had a lot of coat that was «blowing» and I said that’s why I brought her here and the woman, with a very poor attitude, told me «no you brought her here to get clean». that was true, but I specifically asked them to take care of the shedding. What I appreciated least of all was being made wrong around the holidays. I probably will find some where else to take my dog.
I run my own business, I understand that in this economy it’s all about customer service. It wouldn’t have taken much to explain what they need to explain to me in a nicer tone of voice. It would’ve made all the difference.

I have taken my dogs here several times. The owner, Kathy is extremely kind and always professional. I have also seen other groomers here, also knowledgable and professional. I have 3 dogs of my own and I also foster dogs, I highly recommend Dogs in the Rruff.

I’m actually perplexed by the negative reviews for DITR — I have been involved with dog rescue and adoption for 10+ years and this is the BEST grooming shop I have ever found for my babies. Not only are my pommies (all seniors) super smiley when I pick them up, they look and smell gorgeous. We have an 11+ year old who was severely abused before we adopted him and has never allowed a groomer to touch him without a muzzle. He absolutely LOVES going to DITR and he gets groomed without a muzzle — even around his eyes and mouth, which he usually only allows me to touch. Our 11 year old female pommie is now in love with her pet carrier because she associates it with going to get groomed. Also, I have one of my pommies cut super short all year round and they have never tried to talk me out of it; in fact they all dote over him and love how he looks (like Boo only cuter!) I can’t say enough good things — I referred a friend and now her dogs love going to DITR too!

Nail trimming trauma. I brought my 5 month old shiba inu here to get his nails trimmed «professionally» since he’s not a fan of me doing it. Upon picking him up, the tech greeted me with her cut fingers from the difficulty cutting his nails. I apologized profusely until seeing the massacre she caused with his nails. He was about 1.5 months overdue, so the tech took it upon herself to cut about half of each nail off. The result looked like a crime scene.
Even as a novice, I know you should trim a little, wait a couple of weeks, then trim again –not make up for lost time by pruning to the point of bleeding profusely.
I will never return here and will work hard to make sure others avoid it too.

If you are looking for a groomer who will provide philosophical insight into what is «right vs wrong» when grooming your dog, this is your place. When I asked about getting my dogs shaved for the summer, I was told «we don’t do that here — dogs that have coats are meant to have them!.» I was told this was for medical reasons to «protect them from the elements.» Ironically, my dog suffers severe bacterial skin infections during the summer months when not shaved. It’s amazing that a business owner would judge a prospective client, especially on something that holds no medical ground.
