Captains Fishing Parties offers several different kinds of fishing trips and cruises. They are easy to book with and have an amazing fleet and crew. Located on Plum Island, at the mouth of the Merrimack river, it’s makes for quick travel to downtown Newburyport or out into the open ocean. Captains Fishing Parties also owns there own beach front which is great for the whole family.

My lady friend and I were interested in some deep sea fishing, first time. Unilocal searching lead us here. Overall, the staff was great, very courteous, friendly, and helpful. Went on a half-day trip fishing for striped bass(poor luck w blues in the am). As a boat, there were maybe a dozen of us, had plenty of room, but only caught 4 fish total, none big enough to keep. We moved a lot, continually trying to find the fish. I think it was just bad luck that day. There were a lot of other fishing boats about, suggesting this was a decent place to fish. Despite no fish for us, still a nice time

Had a great time today fishing upon the Captain George. We booked the ½ day fishing trip and it was just enough time out to sea(about 8:30 until a little after 1). I went with my boyfriend, my 9 year old niece and 6 year old nephew. We fished for the mackerel we later used as bait for sea bass fishing. Everyone caught something. The kids were extremely excited. It was nice the the boat wasn’t too full so you had the help of the staff when needed. I had so much fun that I am hoping to plan another trip before the end of the summer.

Did the 1pm-3:30pm afternoon striper fishing trip today. I didn’t catch a thing(what else is new), but the staff was great. Others caught some nice fish. I’d go back. A little expensive for a short trip, but a great experience overall. Do it.

From the mid 1990’s through the early 2000’s they were my primary fishing party provider, I fished quite often with them until I found another party boat that I greatly preferred. My currant favorite party boat has suspended fishing operations this season in order to develop other areas of their business, so I gave Captain’s Fishing Parties a new try. Captain’s Fishing has a nice fleet. The Capt. George is a 65′ old school wooden fishing boat, the Captain’s Lady is a 78′ Lydia yacht, the Captain’s Lady II is a 90′ Lydia yacht and the Captain’s Lady III is a 106′ Lydia. There are also local charters that the folks at Captain’s Fishing are willing to recommend. The boats that I saw were clean and well maintained. The larger boats all have full galley with grill. I went on a full day deep-sea trip. Their website clearly lists that the full day trips are scheduled aboard the Captain’s Lady III. We sailed aboard the Captain’s Lady II. This slightly smaller vessel is nice and is fine to fish from, but I am kind of bothered by the fact that, over the years, I have booked aboard the larger boat many times and have never sailed aboard her. I know it’s a small thing but they do the same thing with the half day trips. I make reservations aboard the Captains Lady and have always ended up aboard the Captain George. A big difference! The day was fairly calm and the weather was nice. I did not see much food from the galley but the breakfast sandwiches smelled good. The catch was light, with many undersized fish being thrown back. We were fishing in 200′ depths. This is 50 to 100 feet shallower then I am used to, so probably accounts for all the little fishies I saw being tossed back. On board were two visiting representatives from the Massachusetts Department of Fish and Game conducting field surveys. These two gentlemen were VERY helpful to the anglers in their areas. There was one full time galley crew and two deck hands aboard. Of the two hands, one was busy helping anglers and untangling lines while her coworker was of limited use. Overall it was not a bad day The weather was great and the guys from the Mass DF&G made the trip run smoothly. This brings us to my hesitations… Their website is at best misleading about which boats go on which trips. Their fishing reports are sparsely completed and over exaggerated. They are some of the least reliable fishing reports that I know of. Finally, their deck hand, Jay. Jay demonstrated himself to be exceedingly rude and under motivated. His large flabby belly had trouble fitting past many of the fishermen so he was constantly pushing past people on deck. When he heard that a man fishing near me was from Canada he kept circling around to make as many juvenile comments he could to insult the French. He was simply incredibly offensive to be around. Slovenly, ill mannered, racist and he kept trying to bum cigarettes from the anglers. His presence easily cost this review a full star if not two. They are not a bad company to go out with, but I have been on a few better ones Their boats are kept clean and their parking is good. I am glad my kids were not exposed to the behavior of their deck hand and their web site management could use some work. I gave them three stars but its a weak three stars. With a better deck hand and some web work they could have earned a solid four stars.

Family owned and operated for 35 years. There is no doubt in my mind they will continue to be successful. They have a fleet of four boats, including the new 106′ Captain’s Lady III, and they are more than just a charter fishing company. They also offer dinner/band and DJ cruises, fireworks cruises and personal event cruises. I have been on multiple dinner cruises/fireworks cruises and my wife and I actually had our wedding reception on the Captain’s Lady III last year. All of our guests still comment about how great the night was. The whole Captain’s family was fantastic with helping us with the logistics of our night including the catering and the DJ. They made planning our reception stress free and enjoyable. I’m sure my wife and I will plan more events with the Captain’s Lady in the future. If you attend any of their events whether it be a day of deep sea fishing or a wedding reception you will enjoy yourself!
