This is going to be a long review, but having been a permanent makeup candidate myself only months ago, and an obsessive compulsive eyebrow plucker my entire life, my hope is that this will truly help someone who can relate to my story. When I was about 12 years old, I was not what one would call a «cool» kid. In fact, I was bullied and one of the things I was bullied for was how hairy I was. I believe, this is what marked the beginning of my tweezing tendencies. Luckily, the bullying stage of my life ended. However, my thin eyebrows remained and it seemed like too much of a hassle to go through the awkward phase of growing them back in. It wasn’t until nearly a decade later that I realized full, natural eyebrows were not only the style, but framed the face and made one look younger and healthier. Unfortunately by the time I came to this realization, it was too late. Despite the research that indicated to me that once a follicle was dead it would never grow hair again, I tried all sorts of gimmicky and expensive hair growth serums and supplements(to no avail, of course). Eventually, I got bangs to hide my mess and wore them throughout my 20s. Although I admit I love the look, the main reason I was so particular about them was because they covered my barely there brows. I was so self-conscious about going out in the wind, enjoying time in the ocean or pool, and was petrified of rain because I was so obsessive about keeping my bangs in place. I’m not much of a makeup person, and drawn on brows wouldn’t do much good swimming anyway. This was no way to live. Upon further investigation, I learned of eyebrow transplantation, the very costly(and thus impractical) procedure that would use donor hair from another part of my body. And then I learned about permanent makeup. I found blog articles of other women who had very similar stories to my own and benefitted from permanent makeup, and I immediately knew it was the option for me. It was now a matter of finding the right artist. I quickly realized this would be no easy task. Even the artists with the most impressive portfolios had few reviews on the Internet. I guessed that this was because most people probably want to be discreet about this procedure, and were just as embarrassed as I was. At that moment, I declared that if I did find an artist and followed through with the procedure, I would share my story in hopes that it would help others. I consulted with another artist before Leigh whose work was quite impressive(and she was much more local to me than Leigh). I explained that I wanted to do the procedure without any of my natural eyebrows. After all, they were so thin and what hair was there was asymmetrical, and I really didn’t want my new brows to be based around that. I explained that my OCD ways were what got me into this mess in the first place, and that I’d really like to start from scratch or that I knew it would drive me bonkers. While she was very unaccommodating and insensitive to this request, Leigh turned out to react just the opposite– she told me she often finds it easier to create great brows from scratch. And her portfolio of work was stunning. Despite the 1.5 hour drive from me, I was all in. In a nutshell: Leigh changed my life. I’ve never felt more confident, and my only regret is that I didn’t do this sooner. Leigh was nothing but professional, empathetic, and honest throughout the whole process(not to mention really cool and nice!) What to expect: Leigh begins by drawing on your new brows, and she doesn’t move onto the next step until you are 100% satisfied with their shape. She will also show you various color options smeared onto your forehead so you can get a really good feel for what the color will be like. Once you’re happy with the shape and color, she applies a numbing gel that needs to sit for 20 minutes. The first go around of hair strokes was uncomfortable, but then Leigh applies more numbing gel and because you then have little cuts on your face, the gel really seeps in, making the next go around practically pain free. You may be shocked by what they look like immediately after. Do not fret, they will fade! If you follow the after care instructions, they will heal without any issues. And Leigh made herself available by text to me, so anytime I started freaking out about the healing process along the way, she was there for me! My brows faded a bit more than I had hoped after my first procedure(which is not atypical), so the touch up was necessary for me. Like a pro, Leigh mixed a darker color and more than a month after my touch up they look incredible. I’ve never received more compliments in my life! I’m realizing I can’t attach before/after pics, so I will upload a profile pic soon(and yes, the brows you see are 100% tattooed, and yes I created this Unilocal account to praise and support Leigh!) Leigh– thank you so much for doing what you do at such an incredible price, and for being so darn sweet along the way!!!
