Delamater’s is a family-owned and operated restaurant in the heart of downtown Newberry. Located in a former bank, the building is included in the National Register of Historic Places, and is just down the street from the Opera House. Given the impressive digs, I wondered how the food and service would compare. Quite well, it turns out. Service is warm and friendly, and the staff is adept at describing the menu offerings, including nightly specials. I opted for their signature burger — sans bun and fries due to my gluten allergy — and it was one of the tastiest burgers I’ve ever eaten. Delamater’s grinds the meat for their burgers in house, and it makes a difference.(I imagine it’s even better with the bun and fries.) Sides of asparagus and sauteed zucchini and squash were nicely cooked and flavorful. My dining companion’s pork chop looked and smelled wonderful, and he assured me it also tasted delicious. If you have room for dessert, I heartily recommend the crème brûlée. Nicely crusted on the surface and decadently creamy underneath. You won’t be disappointed!

Billboard on interstate is what drew us into downtown Newberry for dining. Came across this great little square and this restaurant, which started off with a great impression. The waitress was a sweet gal, and very informed on the menu. We ordered an app — it was o.k., my salad was to die for, and then we waited, and we waited, and we waited, and we WAITED to finally get our dinner. It was just o.k. I wanted to love it because of the whole charm of the place, but I think I lost interest along the way. We were on vacation, so it wasn’t a big deal, yet it was a little annoying — know what I mean? Skipped dessert because it just took too long and we needed to get going.

This is a beautiful restaurant in downtown Newberry. Staff was very welcoming and helpful. She-crab soup is the best I’ve ever had! The menu offers a wide variety of seafood, steak, chicken dishes. We had the fried green tomatoes with goat cheese appetizer which came served on a bed of chesse grits! They were delicious. I would recommend trying this restaurant when in Newberry. It is right next door to the Opera House.

Had dinner here before a concert at the opera house — less than a block away — And let me tell you — Excellent food, service and surroundings. The brie appetizer and the coconut shrimp were perfect. The Chop and the loin were excellent, flavorful, with great sauces and I really liked it! Every one at our table was pleased, very pleased. I would go back again.

A small town’s idea of a nice restaurant that doesn’t live up to the idea. Rather bland and uninspiring. Crab dip appetizer actually served with Keebler crackers. The couple shrimp I got were nicely done however. And we wonder why the Applebee’s of the world are winning…

Delamaters is consistently good. The menu doesn’t seem to change, but it offers a variety of old favorites, especially the crab cake sandwich and the wilted salad(best with shrimp). The wine list is acceptable, but nothing special. Service is always friendly and attentive, and the owner will usually stop by to check on your table. Cozy atmosphere. Great choice for a leisurely lunch.

Well, it’s been nigh a coon’s age since I last set foot in Delamater’s, but the place is so dear to me that I must write ‘em up. Why, you ask? Because Olé Delamater introduced me to the MONTECRISTO and ruined me for life. I’ve never had another one better. The Delamater M.C. is an old-skool, triple-decker monster which is built first, then dipped in The Wash and Fried. And when you puts it in your mouth with a bit of Melba sauce, you will know The Lord. Only served at lunch.
