Hmmmm 2.5 stars but will only allow 3. Been there several times now. Service is good and Interior is brighter and cleaner than Lucky Fortune or Happy Family, but the food is always off. Food LOOKS good, and I know it’s fresh as can see it being made via the big window to the kitchen; yet somehow its never actually hot and it always has a oily/greasy flavor. Does extra grease make food cool faster? 2 dinners were less than $ 17 which is awesome but wish it was higher quality.

It was a lot of food but not the greatest quality. The breading on the general tso chicken was to thick and hard that it hurt my jaw. I think there was chicken inside the breading bit it was hard to tell. The service was nice. Gave us soup while we looked at the menu. Very cold in the restaurant, bring a sweater.

Delicious! The size of the restaurant is definitely a reflection of the portions! The food had some unique flavors and was hot and fresh. The waiter was polite. I will definitely recommend this to friends and family. Good Chinese is hard to find without the added MSG and artificial taste.

The egg roll was seriously disgusting, gawd only knows what was inside it. The rest of the food ranged from mildly disgusting to barely edible. Friendly service, but food so bad you should ensure that your life insurance is paid up before dining.

Every time we had lunch at Eden Gate the service was friendly and prompt. The owner has always been very nice. Usually I call in and the order is getting packed up when I arrived. I stopped for take out one evening and since I had to wait, the owner offered me soup and something to drink while I waited. First I say no thank you but he insisted like if I was visiting his home and he was the gracious host. The food is good and the portions are large. I only have one complaint. The décor is out of the 80s. It is just screaming with all the plants, the bright interior, and that huge wall to wall mirror. It is not very welcoming and you almost need to wear sunglasses.

best Chinese food in Newberg and friendly service. Mammoth portions of decent food and small town feel keep me coming here when I’m in town.

The place is divided between the restaurant on the street side and the lounge in the back. This was my 1st time here, I had the lunch special(cashew chicken). Was pleased with the food typical American-Chinese and reasonably priced. Friendly service! Clean but interior dated could use a makeover(restaurant first opened 30 years ago). All-in-all good experience would go back.

Define«Cool Place.» Could a cool place be the back of a crummy Chinese restaurant? Could a cool place have a band, Wii competitions, drink specials and a handy little outdoor terrace? Could a cool place be unassuming and kind of hard to locate for tourists? Could a cool place be staffed by keen locals that know how to treat their loyals and how to spot the drunken new guy trying to make time with another guy’s lady friend? Yes, all of these things might qualify you as a Cool Place. In fact, Eden Gate is pretty cool. The locals can get a bit grisly, but they warm up with a toothy grin easily. On my last visit the band(which didn’t even come close to sucking) was playing«The Immigrant Song,» when I walked in and was immediately challenged to a beer chug by a bearded, pudgy, local toad for no reason whatsoever. I lost but he paid for the beer so I was kind of into it. He grunted and moved on after, speechless. I kind of knew what it felt like to be a trampy chick for a second there. The cool place status only hung in the balance as «Three Steps» was playing and I was literally running out the door with my non-local, racially diverse friend being chased by the guy whose lady he was hitting on. Give it an asterisk.

The Eden Gate is divided into two separate sections: the restaurant proper, and then there’s the bar. More on the bar later. I have eaten at the restaurant on a number of occasions and always have had good dining here. You will not find a bigger plate of chinese food around. Seriously, a combo plate looks like it could double as a serving platter for Thanksgiving dinner. The food is good quality plain-jane chinese food. Nothing fancy, but it gets the job done, the staff has always been nice and the prices seem reasonable. The place burned down a few years ago and it has been remodeled since then. The bar: what can I say about this popular Newberg«hot spot»? If you like to go out and drink, and live in Newberg, you’ll either end up here or a couple other places. It is always packed and rowdy on weekend evenings, with both the younger late 20’s to early 30’s types, and the local town drunks. I’d say the majority of the bar staff have worked here for 10 years or more, and service is always excellent at the bar. Two pool tables and enough second-hand smoke to give you a buzz. Darts, pinball, video poker and did I mention Karaōke? I find myself always coming back to this bar every few months, and it’s like I never left. A great little dive bar and a decent Chinese joint to boot.
