*This is a review that I neglected to finish and now New Town is under new ownership and is called O sushi. My family’s goto best value sushi place for dinner. Though the amount has gone down a bit. We always get the bento boxes because it actually gives quite a bit of food. Don’t get the beef teriyaki though. They give like 3 times for chicken teriyaki, so order the chicken instead. They give big slices of sashimi. Fridays are really busy though, so try not to go during peak dinner times.

Having mixed feelings about New Town after my visit tonight, they did some renovations around the place; added TVs, new paint job, menus etc. I don’t know if they hired some new servers but I got the best service I have ever had here tonight. Our waitress was super nice and attentive even when she was serving quite a few other tables too. She also had brought us some complimentary pot-stickers and ice cream throughout our meal(maybe to promote some new products) but whatever it was i was sold! How sweet. Also I noticed that the guy making sushi behind the sushi bar was being really interactive with the customers and helping the waitresses too. The only reason I’m having mixed feelings is because along with all the changes they made to the place they changed the crab they used in their rolls! It’s no longer the nice shredded crab it is just the plain little chunk of imitation crab. I’m so upset! It’s just not the same. Please bring the old crab back! I will post pictures of the one I had tonight and the one I had just a couple weeks ago.

I came for dinner with my boyfriend. Miso soup and edamame– Soup was nice temperature. Not too lukewarm not too hot. Salad– Thousand Island dressing was not good. Goopy. Dragon roll– Classic, clean and was tasty. Tonkatsu– Good. Just good. Best thing out of all entrees ordered. Lion King roll– Would not order again. Took forever to come out(dynamite style and needs to be baked). Wasn’t worth the wait. Nabeyaki udon– I was upset when this came out. This and the Lion King roll came out much later than the first two entrees. This is not udon. It is crappy Chinese hot pot with udon noodles. Don’t order.

I found New Town Sushi after moving to Fremont last year. I’ve been hooked since day one! They are very generous with their portions. The sushi slices are gigantic compared to most sushi bars. The waiter and waitresses are nice. I always get some type of complimentary plate from them. The latest is this yummy slice of hamachi with lime halapeno sauce drizzled on top. OMgosh… super fabulous! I love this place so much I have to go once a week for my sushi fix!

I havent been to other sushi places for the past couple of months because time is limited and i just moved here near the area. I have been eating here more than 5 times now and all i can say is that they give good customer service. Food is great though i havent been that adventurous in trying their other food. I love their chicken katsudon because of it crispiness and juicyness. Dragon roll is all great and satisfying. I love this place because it is the nearest sushi place from where i live :) I will definitely come back for more!

My family and I don’t even want to give it 1 star The fish isn’t fresh. And I went there and thought, «Do they even know the word service???» Terrible. We waited forever to be introduced and we didn’t get any water or tea for the first 20 minutes. Why is New Town still in business.

Mediocre sushi. you get what you pay for. Free miso soup lets you know why it’s free! Tasteless and on the sweeter side and watered down definitely. Don’t ever order the Osaka Don. It was the worst donburi that I’ve ever had… it ended up tasting like all the veggies and mushroom in the sauce only. Very little meat and I only saw one egg in it. This is not a donburi! Please take it off your menu or fix the recipe…

I’ve come here twice with my friend, and while the price is cheaper than most other sushi places, it just never satisfied my craving for sushi. Service is okay, layout is fine, location is good, but you get what you pay for. It’s cheap so the quality of sushi you get is cheap. I really don’t care for this place. :P

I am THOROUGHLYDISRESPECTED by this place. You’d expect such a quaint, small restaurant to be a little hidden gem of Newark. To walk in, be greeted by a nice server, and have an all around pleasant, kind experience. UH, NO. Three other friends and I walked in, only to be given an irritated face as if the waitress were saying that she’d rather not serve students and make no money than serve us and make money. You don’t know us, and we don’t know you. Was it necessary to get off on a bad start? We asked to be seated farther from the rest of the tables dining so we wouldn’t disturb them if we got loud. Not saying we would get loud, but we were just trying to be courteous to others. IMMEDIATELY, the waitress starts questioning us on why we won’t just sit in the booth and angrily insisting that we sit in the booth. This didn’t make sense because there were only 3 others tables occupied in the whole restaurant. It’s not like there was a seating issue. But minutes after we sit down, another group walks in ANDSHESEATSTHEMATTHEEXACTTABLEWEASKEDFOR. We sit in the booth like she wants, and she sets down four menus in a pile at the end of the table. My friends and I are trying to get settled, then she starts badgering us to open the menus and order, saying that«we close at 2:50». I look at my phone, ITWAS1:50. LITERALLYONEHOUR. First you give us a face that says you don’t want our money, then you tell us to hurry up and order? And so we order. SIMPLE rolls and SIMPLE bento boxes. Nothing like udon, ramen, or anything extravagant. Yet, the rolls are brought out at least 15 minutes before the bento boxes are. Now this makes a big problem because you have half the table finished eating, while the other half has just begun. This may be something on the kitchen’s fault, but it just makes the dining experience all the more unpleasant. Again, the place was NOT busy, and there were 2 other waiters just standing around, as well as the chefs looking pretty calm. If there was an issue with not enough time, at least one worker would’ve been in a panic, but nope. 5 minutes into the bento box, 4 trays of bills are slammed on the table, again, insisting that we hurry up and leave. At this point I’m sick of how we are being treated. We look around, and NOOTHERTABLEHADTHEIRBILLSGIVENTOTHEMWHENTHEYOBVIOUSLYWERENOTFINISHEDEATING. She continuously walks by and glares at my friend’s food, stares at our table from afar, addresses us in a rude manner, and shows no signs of even giving a sh*t that we haven’t even done anything wrong. Here she comes again… now she takes the trays of bills and distributes them among us as if we’re not capable of picking up the trays ourselves. At this point I want to barf back up my sushi, return it, leave, and try to make myself believe we went here. It is one thing to give a table their bills when it is blatantly obvious you are doing so to get us to leave. It’s another thing to physically distribute these bills among us when we are OBVIOUSLY not ready to pay yet. From what I’ve learned, it’s never the server’s fault if there’s a mistake with your food or if the meals come out slow. So you never blame the server. But it IS the server’s fault if she is rude, pretentious, and insistent that we have done something wrong to be treated like how we were. And I guess I should mention the food too… it was nowhere remotely close to exciting. The rice in the rolls tasted stale and under-seasoned, the bento boxes were nothing near special, and the portion size of the unagi in one of the bento boxes was ridiculously small. There are so many other, better, MOREKIND options for sushi nearby. Avoid mean people. We were just trying to have some sushi. We weren’t trying to hurt anybody. But I am forced to write this review.

I love this sushi spot! My bf and I came here last Friday and it was packed. The waitress offered us the seats at the bar and we gladly took it since we were in a rush. I love how this location gives you miso soup and edamame on the house as soon as you are seated. We had an order of gyoza and 3 rolls, monkey roll, tempura Cali and USA roll. Sushi quality was good. The prices are relatively cheap compared to other sushi spots. Our bill was only around 21 dollars before tip. My favorite is the spicy crunch crab, but I didn’t have it this time. Service wasn’t the best. When we first got seated, 3 different people came up and asked us what we would like to drink. Do you guys not keep track who is serving which table? You also really have to wave them down if you need something too. :(

I just want to say I haven’t been a regular here in a long time! I probably wouldn’t return again because I am skeptical about the quality of fish here… It used to be really great, but I think those days are long gone.

Tip: JUSTGOTOUMISUSHIACROSSTHESTREET!!! Normally a go to spot for quick and affordably good sushi. However, this time we ordered for take-out and was deeply disappointed! Ordered a few rolls which were fairly good. A bit bland but good enough for the price. What really upset me was the fact that we ordered fried vegetable tempura that looked and tasted like it was old or even worse someone’s leftovers. Can you say, «Hella gross?!» In addition there were only 5, yes 5, pieces that looked super skimpy and soggy! Gross!!! It’ll be some time before I even think of coming back here. And even then… I’ll remember this bad food/service. My 1 star should be ½ a star!

I feel as if the bento boxed dinners are a lot better than the sushi itself! My first time here, I got the chicken teriyaki bento and a california roll and lion king roll,(YES, when i’m hungry, I’M HUNGRY!) but when they all came out, the only thing that seemed to please me was the chicken teriyaki! For the lion king, the sauce that came on top of it seemed a bit sour and kind of ruined my appetite, and the California roll was just too plain and boring. It didn’t scream eat me. + the prices are quite decent though. +service isn’t too bad *you get what you pay for though, and the food here is only mediocre. I’d say consider this place as a last minute option only!

I do not know how many times this sushi restaurant is going to change names. First it was Naru Sushi, then Old Town, now New Town? My first experience was terrible. I ordered sashimi with my sister and ended up getting food poisoning. This was when the restaurant was still called«Naru Sushi» and this was probably 5 – 6 years ago. A few months ago, I went with two of my friends when it was called«Old Town» and got a bento box. It was alright and I did not get food poisoning this time around. I am not sure if I will ever come back, but if I am around the area, I probably would just head over to Umi Sushi across the street.

I read some of the reviews saying miso or food was tasteless. Had it not been for my husband loving their Hawaii Rolls(Tuna and Avocado), I might just have stayed away. I’m so glad I didn’t! Because we went for lunch today and it was great! I got the Number 3 roll. It was delicious! Wrapped in thinly sliced cucumber and full of fresh fish(and also some shrimp tempura), in a lightly sweet, but still with some tang sauce. The other thing I got was the Salmon Rose. It looked good and was on lunch special. They say it’s $ 9.95 but was on special today for $ 3.95. But it was nothing special. Two pieces, each with some salmon, wrapping a ball of rice with some sweet-ish mayo sauce and a little Tobiko on top. For $ 3.95 it was fine, but there would be no way that the Salmon Rose I received could pass as a $ 10 item – not even at Tomodachi. Anyhow, I digress. It was good and priced well at $ 3.95. Kiddo got Bento Box #13. It was an awesome combo! Salmon teriyaki, with tempura(2 good sized shrimp, with taro, yam, brocoli and other veggie pieces), a few pieces of salmon and tuna sashimi, rice and a salad. The portion was huge, dressing on the salad was tasty. Salad greens were very fresh. Cooked salmon tasted good and the teriyaki sauce was not overpowering or sticky sweet. Sashimi was fresh. Grandpa got a Chicken teriyaki Bento Box and loved it. All portions were great and food was very fresh. Next time gotta see if they’ll grill the salmon without the sauce. Kiddo not into the sauce. Waiter was friendly and pretty quick. Food came out fast(we arrived at 11:30am on a week day). We liked the look of the place and the décor/ambiance was nice. 3 people ate lunch for $ 47, including a good tip. Food was great, as was service. I’ll definitely be back!

I have to say I was a bit disappointed in the sushi here. The prices and quantity is definitely good but I think they put way too much mayo in the rolls. I had the Number One Roll(which is ironically #18) and it was HEAVY in mayo. The crab on top of the roll was filled with it. I couldn’t finish it because of how much there was. I’m usually the one who keeps eating something if I don’t enjoy it, just because it’s in front of me… but that was just too much. My friend’s Dragon Roll was also heavy with mayo. Not as bad as mine because there was no crab piled on top, but it was exhausting eating that much mayo… My friend also ordered the teriyaki chicken and there was a HUGE pile of it. If you order the combination dinner, it’s a great deal for just under $ 13. The place is moderately sized and the décor is nice. The service was alright, they were okay about refilling my water and they weren’t super friendly but they weren’t rude either. I’ll definitely be giving this place another chance because of the pricing, but I’ll stay away from anything that looks like it can have a lot of mayo.

We got here and sat us but didn’t give us enough chopsticks or plates, etc. We had to ask for it. It was not even busy and was still deciding what to get but took awhile to come back and took someone’s order instead. Not a very good first experience here so far. The miso they gave was not so good. It lacked miso paste. I know how to make it even! We ordered teriyaki chicken and we received a huge portion but it lacked flavor. We ordered 8 sushi rolls for my family of six and one thing that was good, it had 8 big rolls for a great price. My only grip here was the quality of the fish as it was not fresh and tasted a little old. You get what you pay for…

It was a sushi kinda night and quality time with the family. I came here with my sis, bro in law, and baby niece for dinner. This restaurant was packed for the dinner service. Navigating through the restaurant at this time was kind of hard during this time frame. New Town Sushi was the place to be! We waited about ten minutes until we were able to be seated. Once we were seated our drink orders were taken. After placing our drink orders we took a couple more minutes to browse the menu. What caught my eyes right away was their dinner combos. I was craving sushi and a rice plate. So to satisfy my cravings, I got the sashimi and chicken katsu dinner combo. The meal started off with a small bowl of miso soup. Not salty at all, but was seasoned just to my liking. When the sashimi was presented, it came nicely decorated with ten pieces of sashimi(tuna and salmon), wasabi, strings of daikon, and pickled ginger. The sashimi tasted real fresh. Once I was almost done with my sashimi my chicken katsu came out with a small side serving of white rice. The chicken katsu was lightly breaded to give that crunch and still maintained the tenderness after being deep fried. The katsu sauce provided with the meal complemented the chicken well. The rice wasn’t over cooked and helped me enjoy my katsu dish. The service was helpful and attentive, catering to all our needs. It sure did feel like a new town in the restaurant. It was so packed that night it felt like we were there on a grand opening night. I most definitely would come back here again.

Complimentary miso soup is a good touch I just wish it tasted better. My daughter loves miso soup and refused to finish the soup. The best part of the meal was the steamed rice and the salad. My teenage daughter loved the beef teriyaki, 10 pieces that is How many pieces were in the combination. My other daughter’s chicken Teriyaki was okay. My husband and I both believe the sushi was not very good. We won’t be coming back. The people were very nice we just have a higher expectation of sushi We put into our mouth.

Do the dinner special! $ 12 for two dishes! Great deal! I came here for dinner a few times with my family back when it was Old Town Sushi. Nothing changed other than the name. Not too sure why they even changed the name in the first place. I feel like they’re gonna name it Future Town Sushi or something next. Anyways… The food here is really good and the prices are even better! During dinner, they have a special where you can choose two dishes from a select few for $ 12. Last time I went, my mom, brother and I split a chicken teriyaki and Dragon Roll. We also got a Golden Eye Roll(~$ 9) and New Town Roll(~$ 10). The Golden Eye reminds me of a Lion King Roll where instead of using baked salmon on top, there was scallop. Everything was delicious and was more than enough for the 3 of us. For the quality of the food, the price is well worth it. Oh, they still give the free miso soup and edamame when you’re seated. Service varies from time to time depending on how busy they are. I haven’t had a time were it was bad services, but there were times that took a while for them to come to our table. Overall, I’d definitely come back here when I’m back in the Bay. Even though service isn’t top notch, the quality of food and price can’t really be beat by other sushi places in the tri-city area.

New Town Sushi is Old Town Sushi with a different cover on the menu booklet. the décor is the same. «Old» is still on the menu items. New is nowhere to be found. didn’t hear any music. waiters are the same or they looked familiar eats: chirashi(13.95) same price, same serving size, poorer quality of fish. –miso typical msg flavored broth –18 small pieces of tamago, ebi, butterfish, tuna, tako, hamachi, salmon. –most sashimi pieces tasted referigator cold. –edaname tea ok. 2.5 stars temaki: –tea refill took forever. –déjà vu, groundhog day revisited.
