Sadly I don’t think I’ll be ordering from margherita’s anymore. I used to order from them frequently but the last few times the quality of food has been horrible, I’m not sure if they hired a new grill cook or what. The cheesesteaks I’ve ordered have been so soggy that the bread is mush all the way through, the chicken pieces they use for the BBQ chicken pizza which used to be my favorite is consistently dry and hard, barely edible. By the looks of the new website that was updated today they may be under new management however if my recent experiences are any indication it’s not worth a trip.

Great place to get a quick slice of pizza to go. The pizza slices are big and there is usually a lot of variety. The side salad is fresh, plentiful and reasonably priced. The pizza is no comparison to Justino’s in the city, but it’s suffice.

Great selection of pizza by the slice. Dozens of thin-crusted pizzas from which to choose. $ 5 for a slice and medium soft drink. Come here for the pizza, not ambience. Better yet, grab your slice to-go and eat at one of the tables out front.

The pizza is Better than grottos but the building is dingy and makes you feel like bugs are surrounding you. Watch out. Fend for your family.

Are you drunk? No? Then what are you doing here? Overpriced and underwhelming. Always seems unclean. Without many pizza options on main street, you’re left with this or Peace a Pizza. Guess which I’d recommend.

I stopped by Margherita’s around lunchtime today for the first time in a few years. When I was a student at UD, this was probably the best«hole in the wall» pizza place in town — and lord knows there are plenty of pizza places around Newark. Today, the waiting area was pretty packed but the two guys running the show did well in managing the quasi-crowd. As opposed to the people who used to manage the place(maybe they had the day off), these guys were much nicer than I was expecting. And though I waited for a few minutes for them to even acknowledge me, for which I can’t blame them, the wait was definitely worth it. The pizza I got… a cheese slice and a buffalo chicken slice… were as great as I remembered. Big slices, the right amount of grease, crispy crust, flavorful; for the price, it’s on-point. I docked a star only because right after I ordered, one of the guys suddenly asked«Tip?» I didn’t know what to say for a second… why would you ask someone for a tip before you even serve them their food? He was just shoveling some pizza in and out of an oven anyway. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a server do that before, but I guess there’s a first time for everything!

This is a standard hole-in-the-wall pizza joint in downtown Newark. Prices were decent and service was quick. Had a couple slices of pepperoni and enjoyed the thin, slightly chewy crust. However, was not a fan of the bake on the cheese and pepperoni. It reminded me of highway rest stop Sbarro’s where they toss pepperoni on an already baked pizza. Definitely was missing something.

Once upon a time, this place use to be good. The quality seems to have fallen off significantly due to the new management. The pizza is extremely thin and soggy. The guys working behind the counter do not allow the pizza to bake 100% so you end up having a semi raw pizza. This use to be the best pizza spot on campus when I went to UD. margaritas def did not age like fine wine with that said u should avoid this place.

It’s fine if you want a quick, simple slice. The fries aren’t great, but the slices of cheese are pretty decently sized and tasty.

Without a doubt best pizza in newark, possibly in Delaware. Loved it 10 years ago when I lived in Newark, still so good. Recently in the area, got a pie, still soo good. Friendly and courteous staff. Was a hit with my boys!!!

I was born outside of Chicago, so pizza has been a huge part of my life. I don’t mess around when it comes to pizza and I like to hope that I know a good slice when I bite one. This is the best pizza place in walking distance from the University of Delaware campus. Their slices easily surpass every other slice offered on Main Street. Margherita’s is open pretty late so I’ve found myself stumbling in after many frat parties with friends for a late night bite. The staff has a great sense of humor once you begin to realize their humor. They have a lot of patience when it comes to the type of crowd they often get– drunk college students. If you’re coming with children, I’d recommend staying away on Saturdays after 2pm. I’ve dined in and gotten take out from here and the pizza always tastes amazing. The pies are on display behind a glass barrier so you’re able to get a good look at what you’d like. My favorites are the margerita pizza and the buffalo chicken pizza. The barbeque chicken is pretty good too, and plain cheese will never disappoint. The crust is very thin but perfectly crispy and the slices are big. They toss your slices or pizza into the brick oven right when you order it so they’re always served warm. They offer all types of standard Italian seasonings for you to adorn your slice with however you so desire. They also offer house salads topped with cucumbers, onions, tomatoes, croutons and peppers which are surprisingly delicious. The lettuce is crisp and fresh. The hoagies and subs they offer a variety of are also very good. One of my favorite features of Margherita’s is their pitchers of beer. A college student favorite challenge is the«Pitcher Race». Basically you form a team of two-four and race another team to finish your pitcher. It’s absolutely terrible and miserable but it’s a lot of fun and a great stop for any Bar Crawl come the month of May. The workers are very tolerant of the students. I can’t wait to visit this place during Homecoming weekend when I’m back in the area! My mouth is watering just thinking about it.

A fresh pizza here is great… key word: «fresh.» Slices are ok… they sit out a while, which is weak. Also, the workers handle them with their bare hands, right after handling cash or a credit card. These guys need some good safety training ASAP. Also, the slices are a bit high price wise. It wouldn’t take much to put this place out of business. Some friendlier and cleaner employees would make a world of difference… as would a cleaner, better lit restaurant. The restrooms are also disgusting. But, pizza is probably best on Main Street. Two stars due to the cleanliness and food safety practices.

Disrespectful staff who don’t care about anything. Disgusting food that has been sitting under a heat lamp for hours. I am disgusted with the bathrooms as well as the kitchen. The staff does not wash its hands and there are flies flying around everywhere. I predict when the new pizza place opens up on Main Street, this place will go out of business.

Great NY style pizza when it is fresh out of the oven. Great variety of toppings and you can purchase by the slice or an entire pie. Don’t feel like pizza, they have cheesesteaks and other sandwiches you can enjoy too.

The pizza here is absolutely delicious. I can’t even believe I took so long to try it. I kinda feel as if I have spoiled myself because Papa Johns and Domino’s don’t compare. I’ve tried the sausage-green pepper, and pepperoni-bacon slices on different occasions. The pizza garlic is a great enhancer too.

The quality of the pizza has severely gone down since I first moved to Newark in 2007. I avoid this place now because the pizza is so thin and sometimes not completely cooked. Additionally, the people who work here are notorious among townies for«not giving a shit». Not a big deal for a drunken UD student at last call, but annoying when trying to get a pizza, especially over the phone. There are way better options in Newark. Hell, I’d rather go to Little Caesars. At least the crappy pizza is cheap and the staff is nicer.

Hands down, the best pizza in Newark, DE. I love NY style pizza, and this place does it right. They actually have a huge menu including some Sicilian-style thicker crust pies, but I have only ever had their regular cheese or pepperoni pizza, which are both great. Their slice selection is quite impressive, with a lot of different options to choose from if you just walk in. This is now the only pizza place I will go to in Newark.

I wanted to go in here because it looks like some of the hole-in-the wall pizza places I’m used to in the Chicago area, where the storefront is humble but the product is excellent. I was not disappointed; the crust is excellent, very crispy and fresh tasting. They have a lot of options as far as pizza and toppings go. I got the BBQ chicken and the bacon chicken and ranch pizzas, they were exactly what I was looking for. Also found out they sold beer, so I’ll definitely be back soon!

Opinions vary, but to me, this is the best slice of pizza on Main Street. Prices are great for slices, and the service is quick. Full pies run higher on the cost scale, but their quality does match the pie you’re getting. And for gourmet pizza junkies, the various configurations of pizzas definitely showcase a sublime understanding of pizza not common found in today’s «pizza is junk food» mentality. As for the store itself, it could definitely use a little tlc and a coat of paint. Nothing too fancy, but just an effort to show that they have moved the ovens to make sure nothing’s been growing behind them for the 30+ years they’ve sat there. But hey, you’re not paying for an extravagant eat in experience, you’re getting a darn good slice of pizza for an excellent price. Don’t stray off the pizza menu though. To do so would be to deprive yourself of an excellent pizza experience. There’s better places to get cheese steaks, wraps, and other trendy foods in Newark. And for family’s with kids, picking up pizzas is great, but showing up with a full family to eat in is not recommended. The booths in the back have a hard time comfortably seating 2 people, let alone 4 or more. I recommend the Buffalo chicken pizza. Margherita’s has cracked the code to the most delicious specialty pizza of all time. And for late nighters, this is the place to get your pizza.
