Jacques’ is a relaxing neighborhood bar. The regulars are veterans, trades persons and retired folks. The service is great and like«Cheers» everyone will learn your name. A mature environment, not fancy. Tues and Thurs, from 4 pm on, beer specials.

Despite what negative reviews have said, I have become a regular. The first day I was here, I was treated with respect. The bartenders are very nice, and the drinks are awesome! Try the bloody Mary. Anyhow, I will continue to come here, as I am always greeted with kindness. I show them respect, and I got it in return.

I was tempted to give this dive a 1 star rating, but my brother prodded me to give it a two star rating. We had left La Piñata after a hearty 2 star lunch. We approached Jacques with trepidation but with confidence. We entered the bar like we had been there before. It was my first time, my brother’s 4th time and his friend’s 3rd time. I digress. A senior was enjoying a cranberry and vodka while the show Steve Wilkos rambled in the background. It’s a clone show of Jerry Springer. PBR, Coors Light, Lagunitas IPA, Alaska Amber Ale and a soom other carnival beer was on tap. $ 3.25 for a 20 oz glass. This was a perfect dive. The curling iron on the bar and the prices on post-it notes on bottles on the bar confirmed my supposition. There is a pool table. Tip well, they need more than laundry change. Would I go back?, Only if I’m in the mood for a dive. Be wary my friend.

So after seeing all these reviews by friends and regulars of this bar I had to review since they complained about my comment and had it removed. This place has service that is below par. The inside is dark and dingy as well. The selection of beers is your basic line up, nothing special. Also be aware that there are pedophiles who live upstairs and basically use this place as their every day hang out which makes it very uncomfy for anyone who cares about kids to even look at. This place always has police coming to it either over fights or other issues with the people who live about it. I really wish this place was shut down as it is next to a really popular place where families frequent. But hey if you enjoy smelly, tiny and cramped hall ways to drink at then come on down!

Actually a really cool place! Never thought to venture into Newark as I live in Niles, but I am glad I did. Ask Amber for a cold beer and some dice. I will definitely come back.

For all the negative remarks I’ve read on this place. I go here every weekend for karaōke nights. All the people who are in the place are most likely regulars and familiar with each other. If they see a new face they’re super welcoming. I’ve never ran in to trouble here, and have never felt unsafe. For the record, I’m a clean person barely even drink & a college student. Hope people stop judging this place so harshly, it is a dive but, I have a blast everytime. I would just like to see this place get more business.

I had some relatives over for the holidays and one of them was in the mood for a hard drink. I have some spirits at home but not what he was craving so I decided to drive him down the block to this local bar. I drive by here all the time and never really thought about it much but for odd reason I was a bit hesitant to actually walk in there. There were some guys standing by the entrance and they didn’t look very friendly but we decided to go in there anyways. Boy did I regret that… Right as we walked in the most horrific smell hit my nostrils! It was a combination of dirt, smoke and mold that makes my stomach turn just by thinking about it! The place is dark and it has a pool table and a bunch of old stools just randomly placed all over the floor. Needless to say we didn’t give one more step further, we didn’t approach the grumpy, weird looking bartender and we turned around without hesitation. We then jumped in the car and drove to the liquor store which is about a block away and decided to make our own concoctions at home! lol No freaking way…

Theres at least three registered sex offenders that live above this bar, the bar owner also owns the rental units above… Not a place I feel comfortable drinking…

Great atmosphere. People are great. Bartenders are great. Drinks are great. If you like to do karaōke Friday and Saturday nights are the best nights to go. Nice size crowd not too many people so doesn’t feel over crowded. I have been during the weekday as well during the day very small crowd but different people all the time. I got to talking to some and they are all very interesting in their own way. Theirs any where from bikers to squares, from gangster to homely guys or girls that just got off work you got a good crowd and cold beer served in a iced glass. Its bliss!

This places swings back and forth in my mind as the graetest amazing shit-hole ever. You love it and then wonder why. But it’s not horrible enough to REEEEALLYLOVE it. So I’ll leave my feelings out of this and throw out some facts. –Bartender uses her motorized wheelchair –Pool table –80’s night –Ongoing $ 2PBR’s –Smells like 100-yr-old smoke –In the remote end of Thornton Ave –Megan’s Law resident above bar I’m already bored thinking about this bar. So long Fremont/Newark area.

Everything I could dream of in a Dive bar. Nice bar tender, free food, and bar swag. Did I mention the serve the beer in chilled mug and every beer you order is in a frosty mug.

Jacques, oh Jacques. Yet another Newark Landmark. Newark was once a place of many, many neighborhood bars. Only a few remain. Jacques is one of them. Jacques is tiny, has its regulars and can be a tougher crowd. I usually don’t like this place for a couple of reasons: the cops cruise this section of town, the ventilation is incredibly poor(so dusty inside you feel as if you need to take a shower when you leave – or is that because of the clientele?). I have a few friends who love the place. To each their own, right?! What is nice is that you can stop by the Tortilla Factory to grab some food and bring it into the bar to eat. Perhaps that’s where this«café» thing comes from? Or the fact that they often have some sort of food in the crock pot/hot plate?

Jacques kind of sucks. They are definitely a dive bar, I don’t know where this café is. The bartender Amber has kind of an attitude and she’ll close down the bar early because she«doesn’t have any business». Um what am I chopped liver? The plus side is they are SUPER cheap, pitchers are only $ 6. Unfortunately the only beer they have on draft is Pabst and Bud. Hardly anyone is ever there so you don’t have to wait around for much, and they have a pool table and dart board. They only reason I ever go here is because it’s walking distance to my boyfriend’s house.

I have never seen a café here but they have the dive bar thing down solid. I just recently saw that they offer Wi-Fi. Not sure why a bar needs Wi-Fi but I envision people who should be working getting looped here and answering E-mails.
