Goldilocks here always looks empty. looked in here trying to find some pastries. the prepped food here doesn’t have any prices on them. the pastries/cakes i see here are all over $ 10. i was about to leave. then i spotted the ube hopia. something from my youth that i remembered and hadn’t eaten for decades, hopia is like a baked minibiscuit. ube is like taro or yam… eats: ube hopia(purple yam pastry) 4/2.49 –maybe it tastes the same. i don’t remember –this one is sweet, full fof chemicals, additives and made off site. –nice flaky crust, nice soft, sweet mushy center crumbs: –service was ok, seems employees outnumbered patrons. –probably no return. can’t think of anything else to buy here.

I hope there was an option to give half a star because a whole star is way too generous for this place. I don’t expect much from any Goldilocks establishment. We all know that their food is mediocre and they’re overpriced. This location however takes it several notches down further. I never expected a freshly cooked meal from Goldilocks but would it hurt if you heat in the microwave for more than 30 sec? It didn’t taste fresh either; perhaps because I went there later at night(around 7pm). I just hope that it hadn’t been sitting there since lunch time. I have stayed away from this place since but after a couple of years, I decided to get a birthday cake here. My hubby loves one particular Goldilocks cake and the Union City Goldilocks didn’t have that one in particular. So I decided to call this location and ask if they had it. The person I spoke with on the phone was very difficult to understand, and I’m not referring to her English either because we spoke in Tagalog. She just lacked proper phone etiquette and basic customer service skills. Nonethess, they had it so I was able to order it. When I came to pick up the cake, I had to wait several minutes before anyone even acknowledged me. One lady was showing a customer a cake book and there were a couple of ladies going in and out of the kitchen area without bothering to even look at me. The cake at least was decent, but the whole experience just put a bad taste in my mouth.

If they would train their employees to work more efficiently and understand how to give customer service as if they are in the U.S., then perhaps they have a chance at saving this location. The latest change in reducing their food service is not a surprise. Look at all the other reviews. Does the management not get the hint?!!

The food is always decent at Goldilocks. Service? Eh… But that’s how it is at most Filipino restaurants that I’ve been too. Service is definitely not something they give much effort into perfecting.

HORRIBLE service. Food is average. Don’t even bother walking through the door if you are white. You might as well be invisible. They actually waited on people who were in line behind us, and were completely unapologetic about it.

HORRIBLESERVICE!!! Husband tried to order a combo meal for lunch which was advertised on a sign posted in the window… He was told that they are no longer serving combos; yet other diners seemed to be eating combo meals… So as my husband questions why they have a sign that advertises something different, the young man behind the counter says something in Tagalog to another coworker and they both laugh… Not very bright on their part. It seems that these young men have an issue with serving Filipinos who speak English w/out an accent… I guess he was too«American» for them. Hate to point out the obvious but YOU are in America and English is the primary language spoken. If you don’t like it… LEAVE! Your crappy attitude will not be missed!

Food is alright. My Favorite is still Kare Kare. They have the breakfast buffet on Saturday and Sunday, I want to try but not yet have a chance. I like their Halo Halo, but it’s kinda expensive, almost $ 6(special with ice cream) The people there always speak Tagalog to me, I spoke English and they replied in Tagalog… I’m Vietnamese!

Mmm, mixed feelings on Goldilocks. The food is so-so. I like the cakes especially the marshmallow frosting but they are kinda pricey. Did not realize how pricey they were till the last time I got a b’day cake and ended up being ~$ 50. Say what???

There’s really nothing special about Goldilocks. To me, it’s just a little better than Jollybee when it comes to Filipino food. There’s not a lot of food selection. The only good thing I would say is their cakes. They do have good cakes, but that’s about it. This place is always empty and the food has been seating under the heating lamp for so long, it doesn’t even look apetizing. Price wise is mediocre, but it’s not cheap.

Vivian did a fantastic job on our Wedding Cake! Everyone loved it, it was gorgeous and delicious. It was a custom design with sugared flowers on top, they were so beautiful it almost looked real. I loooove Ube and Mocha cake so that’s what we had. We had two wedding receptions and two cakes. Goldilocks catered the second reception. We had kare-kare, pancit, chop suey, some meat dish that I think was machado, lumpia, bibinka to name a few. The food was soo good and of course the Lechon was a hit. Service and presentation was very nice. Colored linens and fresh flowers too. Thank you Goldilocks!

The last time I went to Goldilocks was when I wrote up my review back in 10⁄2008. I got a call from Vivian the restaurant manager, whom I’ve known for a few years now through a colleague. She knows I haven’t been coming around because of their new sit-down style restaurant. She told me that they went back to the old way, where you get grab a tray and pick what you want from behind the glass, but this time, they’re offering a combo, which is two items, rice and a soda for $ 7.99, not too bad. I ordered the Chicken Adobo and Paksiw na Lechon. Both came in a little soup bowl sized portion. The food tasted exactly the same as I remembered. After my hiatus, I think I’ve graduated from eating Goldilocks food, to finding the cheaper and better quality«Nanay at Tatay» restaurants.

Im giving this place 3 stars mostly for the mediocre food, Their food is over priced and isnt worth it, The service wsnt as bad as the people were saying in the reviews below. They actually were pretty attentive to me and my party. Recently, they started a nightlife here with a live band, food and drinks. The Vintage Plus Dace Band performed lastnight and the band was awesome! Great band! They also had a DJ for their intermissions who was reall good and played alot of the radio hits. The entertainment and service was good, but the food wasnt as nomz as i wanted it to be.

You know this was coming. Mama and Papa bear returned the favor and went to Goldilock’s. Tasted the tuna ceviche, bbq chicken, pork short ribs, fried calamari, garlic rice and everything wasn’t just«just right, «too cold», «too hot», but just perfect. Usually Pilipino food can be too dry, too spicy, too greasy, too soggy and too whatever. Chef Brian cooks traditional Pilipino food with french preparation. The presentation isn’t a blob of this or that, but nicely appeal ling. The veggies are uniformly cut and sauces smooth and flavorful. The tuna dish with a creamy mango sauce is an example. The sauce is not too sweet and it’s creamy. The BBQ chicken on a bamboo skewer had a sweet and not too tart(acidic) sauce(achara included). The chicken was plump and moist. Chef Brian’s signature dish of the tuna ceviche had the nicely uniformed cut veggies. The tuna was moist. The calamari was crispy(vinegar and garlic dip included). Each bite produced a crunch followed by the softness of the squid. I like the tentacles the best. The wine: Sonoma Landing 2005 Merlot. It was fruit forward, smooth and nice nose. It matched the dishes we had. For dessert, we had the coconut pandan. It was fresh, cold and not too sweet. It was very refreshing. We were invited by our Ate(not really my eldest sister) but our friend from church. The Friday night we had dinner, the band Vintage Plus Dance Band played until midnight. They played uptempo beat music. The service was surprising attentive. When we were ready to go, we asked for the check. Whatever we needed, we got promptly. On this Friday night, there was a $ 10/person cover charge, but it’s credited back when you order dinner. We just presented the receipt with the bill and our payment. We’ll be back when we’re in the area and when there’s live music. It was great to have Pilipino food that was nicely presented. Go Chef Brian.

Avoided it for years. Finally went back there for breakfast usually. Thought it was pretty good. The service was okay, could be better and more attentive in some way. The food was tasty, the garlic rice was good, the meat is nicely cooked and was tasty as well. What got me coming back though, was their bakery goods. They were pretty good IMO … If anyone who gave them low reviews can recommend us a LOCAL restaurant that can taste so much better and had good service with the price almost as cheap, that would be perfect. Please don’t recommend me a place INTHEPHILIPPINES and compare with those places over there. Unilocal is a website reviewing restaurants in the United States afterall, it’s not really a fair comparison if I don’t compare it if another LOCAL joint. Isn’t it?

Goldilocks bakes some awesome cakes and pastries and other desserts. For a moment, I am back in the Philippines or my mom’s kitchen as I eat some food from the beautiful islands. Yet for some reason, many Filipino restaurants aren’t run as well as other ethnic restaurants. I just noticed others on Unilocal feel the same. There is often something that is a disaapointment, in Pinoy restaurants — from cleanliness, to atmoshpere, to service, and food, etc. and that’s the same with this one. TYet, the Japanese, Chinese, Thai, Mexican, and German restaurants I frequent don’t have these problems. Also, over the years, Goldilocks has gotten quite pricey with price hikes ahead the rate of inflation. I guess that is one thing they can claim to be a leader in. Their food is not bad, just okay. Some items you’ll order are not as consistent as other. I generally like their BBQ pork on a stick. But at some locations, it sits there and they microwave it after you order it. SOme others they make it is small batches so it’s always fresh. Some of their cooked dishes are good, but some of the meat dishes had gristle. I am used to my mom’s versions of Filipino cuisine. We use fresh, ingredients and take out any excess fat.. To make things worse, they’re now a sit down restaurant company wide. I don’t know who made this decision. But it did solve one problem while it created another: It used to be so crowded here when you would find yourself fighting for a seat. But now, less people are coming in because their service is so bad. As others have said, they really need to improve their service and training of their wait persons. They need someone at the door to greet people, and we had to get the attention of the waiters to seat us, as they were preparing orders in the back when we walked in. The same was true for the next 4 parties that showed up. It took forever to get the check because out waiter was busy getting drinks or taking orders, and there were not enough of them around. At least they were very friendly. Fortunately, we only were here for the halo halo. There are other shops that have very good halo halo, but I love that they top if with ube(taro) ice cream. And it’s served in a wide cup with a long spoon. It’s the right balance of sweet and cold, and the color is beautiful with the purple ube and red gulaman(gelatin) and white milk and ingredients. I also love their packaged Filipino breads and desserts like pan de sal, puto and sipin sipin. But it’ll be awhile before we come back here again. Walang cuenta ang service nila, pero gusto ko ang halo halo at ibang desserts. That’s what the grandpa(lolo) in the next table said, «Der serbis is berry bad, but de halo halo and da udder deserts is berry good!»

I’m not into the sit down thing. Filipino food is just too good to wait for. The San Diego location was this way as well. Sorry but I’m all about the point point. My kare kare oxtails were dry and stuck to the bone. Boo. They had this dish with I think rib eye and onions and peppers. Gotta admit it was bomb. Meat was cooked just right. Garlic rice was ok. They never brought out my lechon kawali. Sniff. But my waistline says thanks for the forgetfulness. We did get free ube ice cream, but it was ruined with choco syrup and whipped cream and a cherry. I take my ube ice cream either alone or in halo halo. Sundae style is just boo.

My family has been coming here for years especially when it was one of the few filipino bakery/restaurants around. Now with all the filipino restaurants in the area Goldilocks just can’t compete. For one, they are overpriced. Also, the portions are skimp. I think they’re feeling the competition too b/c at my last visit I noticed they changed to a sit-down restaurant. For years they had a steam table where you could pick and choose your items. Now there’s a hostess waiting at the front. Too weird. They do have great Tocino(sweet cured pork) and Guintaan(porridge like dessert). And their Sansrival cake has always been the best. But now that there’s other options for filipino food, I’ll likely go elsewhere.

Turo-turo(point and choose) Filipino food… I mean ‘Asian cuisine’ at its worst. Like a terrible Filipino cafeteria, Goldilocks hawks old, recooked, nameless Filipino food in a totally lackluster environment with servers that seem totally disinterested in helping you order. Portions are small and overpriced. Every time I have been here I am always perplexed at how they reheat my impossibly small amount of food in the microwave, and it remains perpetually cold. The food is prepared and presented so carelessly that it is disappointing this restaurant is representative of Filipino food.

I haven’t tried the food here, but my mother and I got an Ube-Macapuno cake here, and it wasn’t very good. I hope she likes it so I don’t have to eat it all. It was actually more like a stale roll with purple frosting and whipped cream over it… I was very happy when I tasted bits of coconut, but I am almost sure there was no actual Ube used in the making. Service sucked and most of the other baked goods didn’t look very appetizing. *crosses fingers and hopes Mother loves the cake* EDIT: At dinner, she said to me, «That cake isn’t very good huh?» Damn.
