This was my first time having Mexican food I came here simply because the reviews on Unilocal and I was craving some kind of Spanish something. I ordered the chicken taco bowl he asked me if I want to make it hot I said yes, he added cheese and he asked me if I wanted the special sauce (yum). I also got an chicken empanada. Dario and the man at the register were quick and extremely friendly. I didn’t stay to eat but the food didn’t make it back to my house. I opened it up in the car to take a bite and we ended up sitting in the car and devouring it. It was amazing! The bowl was delicious too. I will 100% definitely be coming back to this place and supporting this local business.

Great tex mex food Made to order right in front of you. This place is a hidden gem. The owner is super nice and greeted is when we walked in. He explained what was popular and left us to decide. I got the steak quesadillas. My gf got a chicken salad. Both where delicious. Very cheesy and my steak was juicy and not dry. That’s my fear when ordering steak. I would def come back to this place if I’m in the area. I would suggest to anyone to come here. By far better than chipotle.

This place is an absolute gem. Try the quesadillas, it has this secret sauce or cheese in that makes it taste amazing. Dario is also a stand up guy and a whiz on the grill.

Very mediocre. Cannot understand why anyone would go back. Jarred salsa, jalapeños and beans. The owner was very nice. The back of the dining room was swarming with flies.

Great food! I work right next to the restaurant and used to stop by all the time. Good price for good comfy food. Nothing beats that. Recently I’ve been trying to eat healthier so haven’t been there for a while — the food can be a little greasy; but hey good food who cares.

This place is ballin’!!! Chipotle is around the corner and if you chose that you suck!!! Support a local guy and be amazed by the quality of the food!

I love this place!!! the food is SOOO GOOD!!! I used to eat here when I was doing my undergrad. Now, 6 years later I am working in newark and had to go back and this time I had all of my co workers try it. We were all saying how Chipotle has nothing on it, Dario’s is so much better!
Also, going there is like an experience, you can watch in amazement how Dario mans the grill, he is super quick and remembers everyone’s order!

Dario is the man! This is a fantastic hidden Tex-​Mex spot. The burritos use fresh ingredients and they are cooked to order. They are so much better than Chipotle.
Dario himself is usually manning the grill. He’s incredibly friendly, if you come in more than once he will remember your name. A real treasure in Newark.

I’m new to NJ so trying different restaurants has become a little hobby of mine. I had Dario’s for lunch the other day and I must say, it was very impressive! I believe one of the cook’s is the owner — Dario, who is very personable and professional guy!
I selected the Vegetarian Taco Bowl — pretty amazing but I don’t think anyone who’s a TRUE vegetarian would eat this, as it has sour cream and cheese.
I would definitely try them again and recommend to anyone who’s a fan of Tex-​Mex cuisine!

I had the beef and chicken taco salad… absolutely delicious! I could eat those taco salads everyday. What a hidden gem.

This is a gem of downtown Newark. Chipotle and Quadoba or however you spell it, I raise you Dario’s! Local entrepreneur and the friendliest grill chef deserves support not just for his awesome service but for his quality food! I’m there all the time. You visit Dario’s twice and he’s going to remember your name; that’s like success 101. I definitely suggest the chicken taco salad and a shower cap as it will blow your mind with scrumptiousness! So good, had to make a word for it. Does he have guac? See that would take the game to whole nother level!

Order the chicken taco bowl, spicy. For $ 7.50 (including tax) you get tasty and filling street-​style mexican food. Friendly staff.

I went to Dario’s today for the First time with a co worker for lunch around 12:30, right a couple of blocks from where I work! Boy, I am so glad I took her up on her offer!
The food is so tasty and has so much flavor, I had the Chicken Taco salad and a Taco on the Side! YUMMY!

Hidden gem in the business district of Newark, NJ. Family owned and the food is fresh, delivered daily. which is why they won’t have shrimp or steak some days.
Everything is seasoned pretty well. My favorite thing there is the steak quesadilla spicy, but the taco salads seem to be the best seller. The Frieda plantain is one of the best I’ve ever tasted.
If you are allergic to anything you should be careful because everything is cooked on the same grill top. Call in your order if you can, they get busy.

I got the veggie burrito, also came with side of delicious rice, sour cream and salsa for 6.5 $ !
Definitely a great lunch spot if you are in the area !

I have to start off that the price is not all it’s cracked up to be. The food is actually standard prices here. Understandable if you’re working downtown area in Newark and you don’t want to eat fast food, then yes this place is considered cheap compared to other options that you may have. But someone like me who doesn’t work in downtown Newark and a budget eater, this is considered as standard price. The Mexican restaurants near Journal Square area in Jersey City have the same price range.
Now on to the review. The food is good and definitely worth the money. Everything is freshly made in front of you. The guy who makes the order is really nice. He seems to enjoy his job. The place closes at 5:30pm. If you think you’re going to be there a few minutes after closing, you can call ahead of time with your order and let them know you’ll be there for example 5:45pm. They will have your order ready. I got there once at 5:50pm and he told me to just make sure to call ahead and he will wait for me to come and get the food. He’s a pretty awesome dude. Definitely my new hot spot!

So glad I found a yummy Mexican spot so close to my office.
Pros:
–Dario is so personable and welcoming. Yes, he will call you «honey» a dozen times. It’s not terrible.
–The price difference between getting a chicken/​beef whatever vs. getting it with steak is literally only 50 cents. First place ever that doesn’t charge you like $ 2 extra. Amazing.
–Steak burrito was delicious. Steak was sliced thin, like in a cheesesteak. Rice was also yummy. It looked kinda small, but it definitely filled me up and then some.
Con:
–Someone’s review complained about the salsa being some like El Paso brand and I thought they were just being obnoxious and bougie. But, then I tasted it and understood. Everything else is such good, yummy quality and the El Paso or whatever totally does not match. It’s like wearing a fancy outfit with some janky Keds.
But anyway, overall tasty and cheap. Will return!

The BEST Mexican food in the area. Don’t you even think about going to chipotle, which just opened, bc this place is family owned and more fresh. Beside, we shld all be supporting local small business owners especially when their TACO BOWL is so so good. I have a co worker who eats here 4 days per 5 work days.
Me, I usually get the taco bowl — beef shrimp or chicken. My favorite is the beef and it comes w beans, veggies, peppers, onions corn, and rice. It is a generous portion and very very affordable at 6.99/ bowl. The salsa sauce is to die for! Its home made from scratch w fresh tomato and onions. I don’t know what the secret recipe is but the salsa combined w the perfectly cooked beef is a must try.
What’s also amazing is Dario, the owner. At lunch time, there’s a line out the door and he takes all the order from memory. Very very impressive while cooking and talking phone orders.
