Had the grilled greek chicken wrap and yankee bean soup. They were both delicious!

This was exactly the right restaurant for hungry travelers after a long night of flying! The food is traditional diner fare-eggs, bacon, toast, etc– and it was all excellent. We got to the restaurant early at around 7 am, and within moments of sitting down our waitress was with us with menus and coffee(which was of fantastic quality, by the way). Three out of the four of us got the two egg combo, which came with potatoes and heaps of bacon. I have to say, I love it when places aren’t stingy with the bacon! The last of our party ordered the French toast. Everything was perfectly cooked and came out quicker than we expected. The entire time the waitress was attentive and friendly, refilling our coffee and helping us with extra butter for the toast. Overall, this was a great experience and I’m really glad we stopped in at this little joint to begin our trip.

Wow. If you like eating in a filthy restaurant with horrible food and one of the rudest waitresses EVER, then this place is for you! It is so dirty in the dining room its not even funny, and our waitress was unbelievably rude. A table of 3 men seated next to us asked for sliced tomato for their sandwiches, and she was rudely arguing with them saying that it doesnt come with the sandwiches they had ordered… blah blah blah. Like seriously? You just go get the tomato, Bitch! Geez! NEVERAGAIN.

So I call this place to order, because I’m really not feeling good for walking, especially in the cold weather. And what response do I get after giving my address for delivery? A snyd, «We’re in walking distance ma’am» Me, «So… you can’t deliver?» Rude employee, «No.» Mind you«walking distance» is at least a couple of blocks from the address I gave her. Furthermore, I didn’t realize you could be too close for a delivery. I thought maybe that just made their job easier, but no, apparently that’s just offensive(and I obviously would have paid a delivery fee and tip with no complaint). So if you’re sick in bed, or exhausted from work, don’t expect these jerks to deliver if you live«too close». Don’t support these rude, lazy assholes.

Ms. Francis the server was sweet ol lady. She served food with so much love. Food was delicious and portions are fullfilling. The price is alright and even on a national holiday itwas busy. This place is nice comfy cozy little diner. But really nice place. The edison parking is right next to it. Don’t stuggle finding parking on the street.

This review is only about take out/pick up. I have never dined in. The food is ALWAYS super delicious! My favorite is the french toast! Omg it tastes like it’s made from scratch in your grandmother’s kitchen. The grits are yummy as well. No complaints!

Every time I come to this place the service is great, and the food is great. Parking is horrible however, that’s the only down fall !!!

Stopped in here with my coworkers to pick up a lunch order. We ordered two orders of steak and eggs and the other had a hot pastrami sandwich. My steak and eggs were pretty good and my coworker agreed about her order as well. I will definitely stop in here again. The food was good and the price was rather inexpensive for the amount of food we had.

This place looks like a front for the mafia. The food is decent. The décor Reminds me of NJ diners I visited when I was a kid because this place hasn’t been updated or renovated for a long time.

Good for breakfast sandwiches mostly. The reviewer who said they don’t take cards is incorrect; they Do. I don’t mind the attitude of the staff because they have to deal with a lot, and quite honestly the customers are probably ruder than the staff.

Some of my co-workers have gone there and each and every one of them have their own Central’s story. For example hair found in the food– this was mentioned by three different people on varied occasions. Still do not recommend this disgusting and overpriced place. The rude staff members only makes it worse.

After reading the reviews for this restaurant we decided to try out the food and see just how true the service is. The reviews are right on. The food is amazing and prices make it even more appealing. The service is exactly as it was reviewed. We had a server who abruptly snatched our menus from us just to hand them to the diners in the booth besides us. We all got a good laugh about that and were expecting something like this from what we read. Overall, I enjoyed the time spent there, ate well and am looking forward to our next visit.

This place is good, me and my husband have been coming here for years and the food is still good the only reason I gave them 4 stars is because there’s this server that works there her name is Shirley Yea she’s nice BUT for some reason she can’t focus. she messed up my order three times in one day we even had her repeat it back to us and SHESTILLMESSEDITUPUUUUGGH !! How frustrating for a soon to be mom who’s hungry baby kept kicking her but If you do choose to come to Central Restaurant see if Ms. Francis is working she’s an older black women who is extremely sweet and every time she sees me and my husband she treats us like old child hood friends !!

Great food, I just hate the customer service of the waitress Pat. She’s alllllllllways rude. I’ve been going here for years so I’m starting to think that’s just her persona.

Nice local diner in downtown Newark not far from train station. Simple fare that satisfies. Greek co-owners are established and take good care of their business and regulars.

My friend and I walked into this diner after we discovered the restaurant we intended to go to wasn’t open that day. We were disappointed to have to change plans, but this diner did a fine job of satisfying our desire for classic diner fare. I ordered french toast, and it tasted just like my mother’s(the ultimate compliment). It was so lovely on its own that I didn’t even add syrup. My eggs were also well-cooked. I ordered them scrambled, and I half-expected them to come out dry and bland, but they still had a nice softness to them. As far as classic diners are concerned, that’s pretty outstanding! :) Prices are great. Service was a little slow(we didn’t get our menus for several minutes, but after we ordered, our food came quickly). Ambiance, décor, and atmosphere were a little lackluster.
