The Art of Shaving

WOW! JUST WOW! So I was doing an across the nation work trip, when low and behold I discovered I forgot all my shaving stuff, which yes is from The Art of Shaving lol. So my face cause I do not shave all too often (daily) can be a little sensitive and annoying so traditionally Hotel supplied stuff makes me look like someone attacked my face with a machete. This location (520 Madison Ave.) was right down the street from my hotel so I stopped in and made an appointment to get all cleaned up. First Delilah E. was and AMAZING sals representative, extremely friend, VERY knowledgeable about all the products sold and was a pleasure to speak to. My partner was with me and she kept him company talking about all the stuff in the store plus making sure he was comfortable GREAT SERVICE! I had my shave with Arthur M. WOW AMAZING! He paid such close attention to detail, extremely friendly, and did a SUPERB JOB! He made some great recommendations and it came out better then I have ever done it. Thank you Arthur and Delilah, whenever I go back to NYC I will be here for some supplies and a shave :-) I highly recommend anyone new to shaving, looking for recommendations or even looking to freshen up and get a shave STOP INTO THIS LOCATION and ask for these two. Thank you again!

I only discovered this place during my visit in New York, and boy I was not disappointed, from what I read up about these guys on Google they truly if not exceeded the hype in my opinion, the gentlemen who looked after me went by the name of Mr Gabriel Davidov, he was extremley friendly welcoming and offered me some great tips on shaving, he even done some extras free off charge so I looked fresh and clean for the duration of my stay. I really cannot recommend these guys high enough, in my opinion the Art Of Shaving should most definetly branch out to London in the United Kingdom they would make an absaloute fortune we have total amateurs here that are not on Gabriel’s level, I really hope the boss reads this because I’d like he or she to give Gabriel a huge thumbs up as he’s by far the best staff member in your branch, people if your ever in New York down Madison Avenue then get yourself to Mr Gabriel Davidov I promise you, you will not regret it!!!

A haircut, and a royal shave is about the most relaxing thing you can purchase for yourself. The first time I went in, I was a little taken back at the price. When I walked out after the first time I realized, it was worth every penny. I have now gone more than a dozen times in the last 2 years.
Royal shave and a haircut takes about an hour, so prepare to relax. Gabriel is a true professional who takes pride in his craft. The ambiance is incredible, you relax and a big old style comfortable barber’s chair, with great music playing in the background, and enjoy yourself.
Makes you feel like Willi Cicci.

After years of using your regular old Gillette razors to shave, I thought I’d mix it up a bit and go old skool with a «Safety Razor» for my shaving. When you go to Art of Shaving, you not only get a look at some pretty fancy stuff (for shaving anyhow), but you also get a wonderful demonstration of excellent customer service.
When I arrived I was greeted by a super friendly salesman. He took me through the pros and cons of using various types of razors and I found his attitude refreshing. He wasn’t down on anything, but instead tried to offer me the good and bad of each type of razor. There was a very positive vibe in the store and he was extremely patient with all my questions.
With its dark wood, attractive product and the professional attitude of the staff, the store instantly gives you the feel of a place where your needs will be taken care of.
A note: while I did not get to try it, there is a barber shop in the back of the store. They even do old skool shaves with hot towels and everything at very reasonable prices (I’ve seen some places advertise $ 75 – 100 while they hovered around the $ 50 – 60 range).
I wound up purchasing my Safety Razor from this shop and some supplies and I have been using it happily for months. This is *not* a cheap place, you go here for quality and to invest in the product, so be warned.

This place is first class. Your going to pay a premium price here for a shave but your going to get a first class shave.
I walked in and they fit me right got a great shave to attend a great event. Highly reccomend them for a first class straight razor shave.

I had a bad experience at this joint. Because of the marketing and location I had expected a very high quality shave and haircut, but begin to have a sinking feeling once I sat in the chair.
The trimmer painfully pulled at my hair, the haircut was uneven and not well blended. The shave was almost tortuous as the barber went back and forth against the grain multiple times and my chin and neck burned for more than a half hour. When I got home my neck had already started to break out with razor bumps and I had to trim a lot of the uneven hairs along my hairline. There were even patches on my neck he missed to boot. I can’t believe they would employee someone of that skill level. I’ll stick to my $ 12.50 neighborhood barber who can’t get it wrong.
There was also a weird environment created by the four sales people hanging out and laughing the whole time in the tiny, low-​traffic store.

I come here once a month or so for a shave and now haircuts. I use Gabriel and he is great. This location is somewhat new and quite convenient to my office. The front of the store is a shop where you can buy razors, blades, shaving kits, etc. The back of the store is the treatment room which has two stations and is very nice. I always feel great when I leave here.

A spa-​like experience for guys who would never in a million years go to a spa.
The interior is devoted to glass-​fronted cabinets of products. it’s a manly kind of environment, but I was greeted warmly, and the staff patiently explained the gift options.
I got a gift card (equivalent to a «Royal Shave») as a present for my husband. He booked an appointment with Israel and seemed quite happy with his shave. He told me the process is basically two different shaves, separating by slatherings with various products designed to prepare and soothe the skin.
His face really felt amazing afterward. Although this isn’t an everyday kind of treat, I think the average guy would enjoy indulging in a luxurious shave from time to time, or for a special occasion.

I used the «barber spa» for my wedding day. I got the royal shave and a haircut. The store was nice with a kind of antique barber shop going. The shave itself was amazing. Several people commented how good my shave looked. I’m giving four stars just because it is very expensive for a regular person. It was great for my special occasion, but if you’re on any kind of budget, it probably won’t be something you do regularly.
