Rusty’s Waterin’ Hole & Chowhouse

Wow. First of all if you want a big glass of pretty decent house Cab or Merlot in a proper glass yep this is where my review starts. Very nice and big. The staff will bug you to death to make sure you are happy. Food is delicious, piping hot and served fast. The restaurant is properly lit. It’s just a hidden gem. I’ve eaten at many pricey restaurants throughout the Twin Cities but this is something special. Worth the drive.

Had an errand to run today up in Amery. On the way up, noticed this place. Believe it used to be another establishment, but it looked like new signage and a busy parking lot.
Decided to check it out on the way back. Think I was one of the few customers there not driving a truck of some sort. Walked in. Looked like there were more vehicles in the parking lot than there were customers inside. Of those who were there, I was in the minority in that I did not have any camouflage or orange clothing on.
Not sure what the law is with carrying guns in public in Sconnie. Noticed an orange-​shirted, older gentleman carrying a sidearm in holster. Didn’t bother me in the least, just never seen that anywhere else before. Maybe he was the Sheriff and not in uniform.
As this is Western Wisconsin, it goes without saying that there is a full bar and gambling (both pull tabs and dice game here, no machines). Got a Bloody Mary. They did it just the way I like, smooth with lots of cheese and meat on a stick and a beer chaser.
Got there at about 11:00 AM, so all they had going was breakfast. Pretty good selection. Probably at least twenty different options. Got the Packer Omelette (bratwurst, sauerkraut and 1000 island dressing). Not the biggest omelette I have had, but tasty and unique.
Don’t see myself getting into the deer hunting culture. I will eat venison like nobody’s business, but just not into the killing and butchering of animals myself. Would be nice if they have venison on the menu here. Not sure if they do or not. Might have to go back to find out if I am in this neck of the woods some evening.
